Zakat is one of the foundations of Islam. If the foundation is weak, then this weak foundation will have ratifications for other aspects of our lives. Today, how many Muslims in the world honestly, sincerely and properly pay Zakat to purify their wealth and help to their Muslim brethren. Since we are missing lacking or very weak in that foundation, is it any surprise that: - So many Muslims are staving and in need today So week Muslim wealth is wasted on luxury So much Muslim wealth is spent on forbidden items So little Muslim wealth is spent on jihad and Sacrificing for the sake of Allah S.W.T. The messenger of Allah S.W.T. (peace be upon him) was ordered to fight the people until they made the syahada, established prayer and paid Zakat. Therefore, Pusat Zakat Melaka (PZM) want to make sure that Muslims pay the Zakat and fulfill all of the others pillars of Islam correctly and sincerely for Allah S.W.T. sake, so that our Islam as a whole will be strong and Allah will be pleased with us. In order to increase Zakat collection, promotional effort is important and to be stressed in order to achieve the amount of Zakat collection targeted. This is the real challengers is to find the ways to at least maintain the Zakat collection that has been set every year. This is related to the effectiveness of promotional efforts made by Pusat Zakat Melaka (PZM)

Inclusive Wealth With Total Factor Productivity: Global Sustainability Measurement

Non-technical abstract Wealth commonly refers to the measure of the value of all assets or capital owned by an individual, community, company or nation. Sustainable development requires that the per capita productive base or comprehensive wealth of an economy should at least not decline over a period of time. We present here a comprehensive assessment of cross-country productivity over a study period of 1990–2010 for 140 countries. We used the concept of inclusive wealth introduced by the United Nations to assess the social value, rather than dollar price, of all each country’s assets, including produced, human and natural capital. Technical abstract This study extends the current measures of sustainability using inclusive wealth by capturing total factor productivity (TFP), which takes natural capital and other conventional inputs into consideration. For the inclusive wealth adjustment, we utilized the Malmquist Productivity Index to measure cross-country productivity over a study period of 1990–2010 for 140 countries. We found that incorporating TFP with natural capital has a significant impact on inclusive wealth as a sustainability measure. Natural capital, including oil capital gain related to the change in oil prices, also has a significant role to play in determining the productivity value of a country. In several countries, the decline in natural capital is not high enough to compensate for the increase in both human and produced capital. This finding enhances our understanding of how inclusive wealth adjusted by TFP can be considered as an economic policy evaluation and planning tool regarding countries’ sustainability. Social media summary Sustainability can be assessed by non-declining inclusive wealth, which refers to produced, human and natural capital

Technopreneurship, innovation capability and social media marketing as catalysts for competitive advantages: A study of batik MSMEs in Pekalongan, Indonesia

This study investigates the impact of technopreneurship, innovation capability, and social media marketing on competitive advantages among batik Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pekalongan, Indonesia. 180 batik MSMEs were chosen via proportional random sampling, and data was gathered from them using a quantitative method. Smart PLS software was used to analyse the data using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Findings reveal that technopreneurship and social media marketing directly enhance competitive advantage, while innovation capability shows no significant indirect effect on competitive advantage through social media marketing. The non-significant impact of innovation capability may be due to the complex, process-oriented nature of innovation in batik production, which may translate poorly through social media. Our findings indicate that integrating technological innovation can improve competitive advantage in traditional businesses like the batik MSMEs

A cultural ecology of new public management in Indonesia / Ismi Rajiani and Isma Addi Jumbri

In 1980s, new public management (NPM) gained popularity as a universal model of reform in public sector management. However, in South East Asia, there have been significant differences between countries that have been successful in NPM reform. Drawing on frameworks of national culture, this article is aimed at exploring the applicability of NPM in the developing country of Indonesia. Using Hofstede’s construct of national culture, social units in Indonesia are explained with NPM proposed as a culturally dependent strategy. It is suggested that the successful implementation of NPM requires compliance between the reform strategies that are adopted and the country’s cultural characteristics. Prior failure in the implementation of NPM has rekindled the interest in the “old” bureaucratic paradigm which was then an indispensable foundation in the field

PEMBANGUNAN MODAL INSAN DALAM KALANGAN FAKIR DAN MISKIN SEBAGAI USAHAWAN: KAJIAN KES DI LEMBAGA ZAKAT SELANGOR (HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AMONG THE POOR AND NEEDY ENTREPRENEURS: A CASE STUDY AT LEMBAGA ZAKAT SELANGOR)

AbstractVarious researches have revealed that the field of business and entrepreneurship contributes towards the increase in per capita income and brings about changes in the social and community structure. Islam too encourages its followers to venture into the fields of business and entrepreneurship. Based on this principle, various organizations such as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Institut Keusahawanan Negara (INSKEN), ministries as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focus on the human capital development of entrepreneurs. However, researches nor agencies that focus on the transformation of the poor and needy as entrepreneurs are scarce. There are also perceptions that transforming the poor and needy as entrepreneurs is merely a fantasy and not a reality. Thus, the main aim of this research is to identify the approach undertaken by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) in developing the poor and needy who are also known as asnaf, towards becoming entrepreneurs. This study also investigates on the factors that encourage asnafs to become entrepreneurs and their perceptions towards the services rendered by LZS. A total of 32 asnafs out of 70 who practiced actively as entrepreneurs and who were receivers of tithe from LZS were selected based on random sampling. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Findings indicate that more females received assistance from LZS for business in comparison to males. Findings also indicate that the asnafs’ perception towards the services of LZS in developing them as entrepreneurs is at an excellent level. This study thus provides several suggestions to LZS as well as other institutions involved in the management of tithe. The suggestions include the empowerment of entrepreneurship development among the poor and needy and the implementation of schemes that assist in the development of entrepreneurs among the asnafs. Hence, it is clear that the development of human capital among the poor and needy is a reality and not a fantasy. Keywords: tithe, needy, poor, asnaf, perception, entrepreneur.

Modelling gerontechnology adoption within the framework of society 5.0 in Malaysia

Gerontechnology is a new interdisciplinary academic and professional field combining gerontology and technology. Gerontology means the study of aging, and technology is the use of science to fulfil needs. Therefore, gerontechnology involves research and development techniques, technological products, services, and environments based on knowledge of aging processes. There are a lot of gerontechnology studies done, but the very little research focuses on exploring the influencing attributes that affect the users’ acceptance of gerontechnology. Thus, the objective of this conceptual paper is to propose a new model of the behavioural intention of gerontechnology adoption. This paper is then developed into research hypotheses for further studies. This research is expected to contribute significantly to the development of a new integrative adoption of the gerontechnology model in Malaysia en route to sustainable development. The significance of this research will also contribute to gerontechnology stakeholders, including the elderly, care professionals, managers within home care or social work organizations, technology designers and suppliers, and the government as the policymaker

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
