A thorough discussion on the Comments on the article "Adsorption of strontium on different sodium-enriched bentonites", by Sanja R. Marinovic, Marija J. Ajdukovic, Natasa P. Jovic-Jovicic, Tihana M. Mudrinic, Bojana N. Nedic-Vasiljevic, Predrag T. Bankovic and Aleksandra D. Milutinovic-Nikolic published in the Journal of the Serbian Chemical Society, Volume 82, Issue 4, Pages: 449-463 (2017), given as Letter to the Editor by S. K. Milonjic, is provided in this letter. The authors of the commented paper have considered all the comments, and responded to each of them, point by point

Wicked Changes - Curated exhibition (LFA)

The much-visited narratives of change in Hackney Wick are those of gentrification, who is involved in creating the new image of this area and who is left behind. Dr Maja Jovic has invited a selected group of local artists and makers (graphic, mixed media and fine artists, illustrators and photographers) to exhibit their observations, intimate and powerful responses to the physical changes in their neighbourhood. “Wicked changes” will offer an insight into the way new architectural language and the new stakeholders in decision making have shifted the currents of creativity. The previous period of isolation brought forward the conversations around care, but the tangible support for the creative community is rarely seen. Cedric Price spoke of architecture that needs to be a “socially beneficial distortion of the environment”, yet there is an evident erosion of the creative capital, with studios being forcefully closed and artists migrating to other hubs as the area is being (re)built. The exhibition, placed in the eye of once biggest artist colony in Europe, will highlight the need to care for the artists’ voices and preserve the creativity of this area. The exhibition was part of the London Festival of Architecture 2021 programme

"Reflections on the subject of Emigration from Europe with a view to Settlement in the United States: containing bried sketches of the moral and political character of those states. By M. Carey, member of the American philosophical, and of the American Antiquarian Society, and author of The Olive Branch, Cindiciae Hibernicae, essays on banking, on political economy, and on internal improvement. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Dietary compounds as potential modulators of microRNA expression in psoriasis.

Nutrigenomic DNA reprogramming in different chronic diseases and cancer has been assessed through the stimulation of gene expression and mRNA synthesis versus DNA silencing by CpG DNA modification (methylation); histone modification (acetylation, methylation) and expression of small noncoding RNAs, known as microRNAs (miRNAs). With regard to the specific nutrigenomic effects in psoriasis, the influence of specific diets on inflammatory cell signaling transcriptional factors such as nuclear factor (NF)-κB and Wnt signaling pathways, on disease-related specific cytokine expression, pro/antioxidant balance, keratinocyte proliferation/apoptosis and on proliferation/differentiation ratio have been documented; however, the influence of dietary compounds on the balance between 'good and bad' miRNA expression has not been considered. This review aims to summarize knowledge about aberrant microRNAs expression in psoriasis and to emphasize the potential impact of some dietary compounds on endogenous miRNA synthesis in experimental conditions in vivo and in vitro. Among the aberrantly expressed miRNAs in psoriasis, one of the most prominently upregulated seems to be miR-21. The beneficial effects of phenolic compounds (curcumin and resveratrol), vitamin D, methyl donors, and omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid) are discussed. Highly expressed miR-155 has been downregulated by flavonoids (through a quercetin-rich diet) and by vitamin D. Quercetin has been effective in modulating miR-146a. On the other hand, downregulated miR-125b expression was restored by vitamin D, Coenzyme Q10 and by microelement selenium. In conclusion, the miRNA profile, together with other 'omics', may constitute a multifaceted approach to explore the impact of diet on psoriasis prevention and treatment

Middle turbinate preservation versus middle turbinate resection in endoscopic surgical treatment of nasal polyposis

    No full text
Relapse in patients affected by nasal polyposis and subjected to endoscopic surgery appears to be a relevant feature. Surgical treatment shows a significant increase in quality of life in all the patients aside from surgical technique used. Our results show a better control of relapse of nasal pathology in patients subjected to more radical surgery (group B) vs patients subjected to conservative surgery on middle turbinate (group A). Allergic patients in group B had a smaller number of relapses during the follow-up period compared with allergic patients in group A and this was statistically significant
