    Severini e Denis

L'A. prende in esame i controversi rapporti tra i due artisti, nel primo decennio del secolo e, più tardi, nella produzione di carattere religioso. Severini risulta influenzato da Denis più di quanto sostenga negli scritti teorici. The Author examines the controversial relationships between the two artists, in the first decade of the century and later on, in their religious production. Severini appears influenced by Denis more than he declares in his theoretic writings

The essay deals retrospectively with the production of a new translation of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida into contemporary Italian (published by the author with Feltrinelli in 2015). Literary translation problems and open questions about the differences between translation 'for the page' and 'for the stage' are explored within a historical-linguistic perspective

Archiviare il contemporaneo. Lo Spazio di Via Lazzaro Palazzi come paradigma

The archive is an inclusive and never static memory device. Thus, it is necessary to take care of it, carefully considering the specificity of collectibles, reviewing and updating continuously the criteria and methods of selection, cataloging and conservation. Only through this assumption of responsibility, which also involves raising awareness of public attention, the archive redefines itself in the present, and in anticipation of the future, as a place of (mnestic, political, social, cultural) possibility. This article presents how the project of the enhancement of the Archive of the artist-run space Lo Spazio di Via Lazzaro Palazzi (Milan, 1989-1992) at the Museo del Novecento di Milano was created collectively -- as a collaboration between the artists, the museum and the scientific coordinators of the project (among which the author) -- with this awareness. The wish is that the constitution, donation and enhancement of this specific Archive will represent a paradigm for the preservation, accessibility and (public) knowledge of contemporary artist archives

Towards comfortable communication in future vehicles

This research aims to study the effect of seat and/or backrest rotation on comfort and quality of conversation. Different sitting arrangements were tested to study the effect of the seat layout on: 1) (dis)comfort experience; 2) conversation quality and 3) postures. Two seats were arranged in different angles (0° 45° 90° and 180°) at the same distance (1 m) and participants were asked to talk to each other. The participants’ postures were acquired by using cameras and markers on the participants’ body. Questionnaires were used to rate the perceived (dis)comfort and quality of conversation. Results show that 90° configuration scored the best both in overall comfort and quality of conversation; while the 0° configuration scored the lowest in both ratings. A strong correlation was established between high comfort and good quality of conversation.Accepted author manuscriptApplied Ergonomics and DesignMechatronic Desig

Action-Research in the Student Voice Perspective: the Fourth Year Upper Secondary School Class Case

    No full text
This paper describes a study that is currently being carried out in an Upper Secondary School in the Province of Salerno (Campania, Italy). Using the Student Voice approach, the research group of the University of Salerno started the study with the aim of spreading the culture of participation and the active involvement of students in school life, while also strengthening their role as active decision-makers in the teaching/learning processes. This research is divided into two stages: an exploratory phase, that is currently being carried out and interests only one fourth year class of a Second Level College of Science: we define this phase our pilot study. Subsequently, based on critical situation and results of the first phase, the aim is to include a larger number of students. The pilot study involves 22 students of a fourth year class and deals with the problems of inattention and lack of interest that, in general, students demonstrate towards school activities. The main purposes of this first phase are: to gather information and to analyse the reasons for this recurring behavior; to implement, with the Student Voice approach, resolved strategies, as well as, verify their effectiveness; and based on this study’s results, we want to involve a larger number of students, if possible, during the next school year (2016/2017). The aim is to establish a different relationship with students, promoting dialogue and debate with teachers, to bring out their points of view, their wishes, the expectations they have towards the school, in order to integrate their concerns in the decisions which affect them. The approach used in this study is qualitative-hermeneutic; an Italian schoolteacher that is co-author of this paper, with the support of the research group, carried out the Action-Research; the data are the result of the observations, group discussions and comparisons. First, a questionnaire was developed to find initial information regarding the students’ opinion about the use of technologies for didactic activities, suggestions and preferences on learning. Subsequently, a qualitative data analysis was carried out, useful to achieve new information for research continuance, specifically to construct the instrument that will be used in the second phase

Discomfort Threshold Evaluation for Hand and Elbow Regions: A Basis for Hand-Held Device Design

    No full text
This study aimed to analyse the discomfort threshold (that could be linked to sensitivity or sensation) of different regions in hand and elbow to support hand-held devices' design. Indeed, there are no studies regarding the hand and elbow discomfort threshold or sensitivity. To overcome these literature gaps, the discomfort threshold of hand and elbow were recorded at 24 spots by pushing a cylinder with a diameter of 10 mm until the participants reported not to be longer comfortable. Experiments were performed with 24 participants, 13 females and 11 males. The results showed the map of discomfort threshold (or sensitivity) for the hand and elbow. The olecranon, situated at the ulna's upper (proximal) end, one of the two bones in the forearm, could withstand more pressure than the elbow area surrounding it. The fingertips and the area close to the metacarpals were most sensitive (lower discomfort threshold).Accepted Author ManuscriptMaterials and Manufacturin

Generating Scenarios from High-Level Specifications for Object Rearrangement Tasks

    No full text
Rearranging objects is an essential skill for robots. To quickly teach robots new rearrangements tasks, we would like to generate training scenarios from high-level specifications that define the relative placement of objects for the task at hand. Ideally, to guide the robot's learning we also want to be able to rank these scenarios according to their difficulty. Prior work has shown how generating diverse scenario from specifications and providing the robot with easy-to-difficult samples can improve the learning. Yet, existing scenario generation methods typically cannot generate diverse scenarios while controlling their difficulty. We address this challenge by conditioning generative models on spatial logic specifications to generate spatially-structured scenarios that meet the specification and desired difficulty level. Our experiments showed that generative models are more effective and data-efficient than rejection sam-pling and that the spatially-structured scenarios can drastically improve training of downstream tasks by orders of magnitude.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Robot Dynamic
