Philip Sheldrake. The Business of Influence
The Business of Influence is a valuable piece of literature about Public Relations, Marketing and Social Media, that have its strength on the knowledge it brings concerning metrics in the digital age. This review resume the main ideas of Philip Sheldrake\u27s book, in which the author rethinks Marketing and Public Relations and presents a methodology, for the evaluation of results, that aligns communication objectives with management ones.
Entangled Lives: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds, and Shape Our Futures
Merlin Sheldrake, Biologist, speaker, and New York Times best-selling author. - Thinking about fungi makes the world look different. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that support and sustain nearly all living systems. Fungi throw our concepts of individuality and even intelligence into question. They can change our minds, heal our bodies, and help remediate environmental disaster. In this talk, Merlin will discuss the ways these extraordinary organisms – and our relationships with them – change our understanding of the planet on which we live, and the ways that we think, feel, and behave.https://scholarworks.boisestate.edu/ideas_of_nature_gallery/1041/thumbnail.jp
Seven experiments that could change the world: a do-it-yourself guide to revolutionary science
Seven experiments are proposed in this book that the author believes, if any are successful, will alter how the reader perceives the world. The purpose of the book is to draw attention to areas of research neglected as a result of conventional habits of thought. The descriptions of the experiments are intended to focus the topics under discussion. One of the experiments in the book aims to test the hypothesis that many dogs and cats know that their owners are coming home before they actually arrive. Rupert Sheldrake has also written "The Presence of the Past" and "The Rebirth of Nature"

Conformation analyses, dynamic behavior, and amide bond distortions of medium-sized heterocycles. 2. Partially and fully reduced 1-benzazocines, benzazonines, and benzazecines
Partially and fully reduced forms of benzo-fused eight- to ten-membered nitrogen heterocycles (1-benzazecines, 1-benzazonines and 1-benzazecines) have been prepared. Conformational features, transannular distances and dynamic behavior were studied using X-ray crystallography and VT NMR spectroscopy. The amide moiety in the nine-membered benzazonine ring 5b favors N-pyramidization, whereas the ten-membered benzazecine 5c adopts an amide twist. Molecular mechanics calculations reveals a correlation between the amide twist (T) and ring stability. The dynamic behavior of the heterocycles in solution were also found to be dependent on the extent and nature of the amide distortion. We thus conclude that ring strain of these medium-sized heterocyclic rings is relieved through amide distortion, which leads to a more stable structure
Differential predictors of under-confidence and over-confidence for mathematics and science students in England
An enhanced understanding of what predicts students' confidence, and what predicts specific cases of under-confidence or over-confidence, benefits educational practices and motivational theories. For secondary-school students in England, confidence expressed as self-concept was most strongly predicted by (intrinsic) interest, perceived encouragement (praise), and subject-comparisons for mathematics, and by praise, interest, and peer-comparisons for science, controlling for achievement and various other factors. The students' reported subject-comparisons, peer-comparisons, anxiety, interest, and (extrinsic) utility differentially predicted the self-concept beliefs of under-confident, accurate, and over-confident students in various ways. For example, for mathematics, higher utility predicted higher self-concept when over-confident (but not when under-confident). For science, lower subject-comparisons (science thought to be harder than any other subject) predicted lower self-concept when under-confident (but not when over-confident). Understanding what predicts someone's self-concept when they are under-confident or over-confident may help these confidence biases to be corrected by educators or even by the students themselves
Psychedelics, psychic phenomena, and encounters with non-human entities
Leading minds discuss psychedelics, shamanism, human evolution, and the ecological crisis. In a series of conversations with Duncan Trussell, Graham Hancock, Grant Morrison, Hamilton Morris, Erik Davis, Julia Mossbridge, Rupert Sheldrake, and others, author David Jay Brown elicits answers to some of the most thought-provoking questions about our origins, ecological consciousness, the potential of psychedelics, and the future of humanity and the Earth
Impact of permafrost thaw on the turbidity regime of a subarctic river: the Sheldrake River, Nunavik, Quebec
In order to assess the impact of seasonal active layer thaw and thermokarst on river flow and turbidity, a gauging station was installed near the mouth of the Sheldrake River in the discontinuous permafrost zone of Northern Quebec. The station provided five years of water level data and three years of turbidity data. The hydrological data for the river showed the usual high water stage occurring at spring snow melt, with smaller peaks related to rain events in summer. Larger and longer turbidity peaks also occurred in summer in response to warm air temperature spells suggesting that a large part of the annual suspension load was carried during mid-summer turbidity peaks. Supported by geomorphological observations across the catchment area, the most plausible interpretation is that the rapid thawing of the active layer during warm conditions in July led to the activation of frostboils and triggered landslides throughout the river catchment, thus increasing soil erosion and raising sediment delivery into the hydrological network. These results indicate that maximum sediment discharge in a thermokarst-affected region may be predominantly driven by the rate of summer thawing and associated activation of erosion features in the catchment. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.
