The present essay’s purpose is to describe the geopolitical thought of Saul B. Cohen (particularly focused on his theoretical concepts), as well as the most recent geoeconomic views, in order to identify possible points of coincidence. Thus, in the first part we will start by describing in broad terms the geopolitical model advocated by this author. The second part is devoted to geoeconomy and its main features, specifically regarding the link between economic and geopolitical factors. In the third part we will identify some of the main common points between Cohen’s geopolitical model and the recent geoeconomic approaches, using and analyzing charts and graphics. In the end, we will present the main conclusions from the conducted analysis
The paper is about the theme of God’s judgement from the messianic point of view of Jewish German philosopher Hermann Cohen. First of all, the author explains that Cohen’s messianic prophetism cannot be reduced to the interpretation that thinkers like Karl Löwith and Jürgen Moltmann give to Christian eschatology. Cohen goes beyond the mythical and eschatological thought which defines Universal Judgement as the Last Judgement. According to Cohen, rather, God’s judgement occurs every day allowing the redemption of mankind in the world and in time. In monotheism, polytheistic fate and doom are replaced by judgement and redemption, and God’s judgement is based on the attributes of justice and love. God who judges is not God who absolves or condemns according to the principle of retribution but God of remission, redemption and reconciliation
On the notion of sequentially Cohen-Macaulay modules
In this survey paper we first present the main properties of sequentially
Cohen-Macaulay modules. Some basic examples are provided to help the reader
with quickly getting acquainted with this topic. We then discuss two
generalizations of the notion of sequential Cohen-Macaulayness which are
inspired by a theorem of J\"urgen Herzog and the third author
Is the discount on the secondary market a case for LDC debt relief?
In 1988, the prices on the secondary market of LDC debt averaged 50 cents per dollar of face value. From the observation of such discount, this paper goes one step further and argues thatthe debt should be written down in order to account for the discrepancy between the face and market value of the debt. The paper is structured as follows. Section 1 spells out the model, section 2 calculates the socially efficient and the post-default growth rates of the economy. Section 3 shows that the lenders, if they were to monitor the investment and the consumption strategy of the borrower, would choose a lower investment strategy than the socially efficient one. Section 4 shows how an optimum rescheduling can achieve the equilibrium described in section 3. Section 5 shows the dynamic inconsistency of the optimal strategy spelled out in section 4, and shows the link with the"debt overhang"literature. Section 6 investigates the empirical relevance of the"debt overhang".Economic Theory&Research,Banks&Banking Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies,Strategic Debt Management,Financial Intermediation
'Giving honour to the Spirit' : a critical analysis and evaluation of the doctrine of pneumatological union in the Trinitarian theology of Jonathan Edwards in dialogue with Karl Barth
The extent to which the 'honour' of the Spirit influenced the theology of
Jonathan Edwards is a hitherto underdeveloped theme. Against a backdrop of
Patristic thought and in dialogue with the theology of Karl Barth, evaluation is
made of pneumatological union in Edwards' Trinitarian theology as this centres
on the nature and inter-relatedness of the 'three unions' that characterize his
theology: the union of the three Persons of the Trinity, the union of the saints
with God, and the union of the divine and human natures of Christ.
Edwards' seeks to honour the Spirit as the mutual love of the Father for the Son
within his Augustinian, Lockean model of the immanent Trinity, and as 'Person'
in the economy. The challenges of doing so within the limits of this
psychological model of the Trinity are evaluated in dialogue with the
Cappadocian Fathers and Barth.
In a manner patterned after union in the Trinity, Edwards gave prominence to the
concept of the pneumatological union of the saints with God in Christ, in
fulfilment of the self-glorifying purpose of God in creation and redemption.
Edwards' experiential theology of conversion, and his elevation of subjective
sanctification by the Spirit over objective justification in Christ, for assurance, is
contrasted with Barth's greater emphases on the Christological union of God
with humanity and objective justification in Christ. Barth's more contemplative
approach is contrasted with the overly introspective spirituality of Edwards.
Edwards' view of the role of the Spirit in the hypostatic union of God with
humanity in Christ, which is reflective of the other unions, is also evaluated in
light of Patristic, Reformed-Puritan and Barthian thought on the nature of the
humanity Christ assumed, and the doctrine of the vicarious humanity of Christ. A
more emphatic incarnational emphasis may have saved Edwards' Spirit-
honouring spirituality from an anthropocentricity which is ironical given that the
glory of God is his ontic doxological concern

Early research has suggested that this population faces challenges related to sexual assault victimization, psychological distress, alcohol use, and academic disengagement. However, little research has explored how specific facets of autism potentially relate to these difficult experiences. Study one explores how autism traits are associated with sexual assault victimization among women enrolled at a university. Study two explores the relationships among autism traits, psychological distress, alcohol use, and academic disengagement in undergraduate college students. A general discussion describes the studies’ strengths and limitations while providing recommendations for future research.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'Closed Access', the embargo will last until 2023-08-01The student, Jonathan Bystrynski, accepted the attached license on 2021-07-13 at 13:25.The student, Jonathan Bystrynski, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2021-07-13 at 13:35.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2021-07-15 at 15:26.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #16908 on 2022-01-12 at 13:04:51Made available in DSpace on 2022-01-12T22:56:07Z (GMT). Paranoia and irony in the Anglophone dectective narrative and the novels of Umberto Eco
The thesis provides a reading of Umberto Eco's three novels, The Name of the
Rose, Foucault's Pendulum, and The Island of the Day Before, that, while it
acknowledges the importance of the Italian literary tradition in which they stand, also
seeks to explain why their author appeals so frequently to literary models outside
Italy, and in particular the Anglo-American detective genre.
Chapter One explains Eco's relationship to the development of Italian literature
through his lifetime. It is noted that Eco is beginning, both in his semiotics and his
fiction, from a position where post-structuralism has been extensively explored by
neo-avant-gardew riters. Eco positions himself alongsides uchw riters as Italo Calvino
and Jorge Luis Borges, who wish to explore the ludic possibilities of working within
structures, while all the time acknowledging the epistemological limitations of so
doing. Eco's chosen structure, more often than not, is the highly defined genre of
the detective story.
From here, the following chapters engage in close readings of the three novels,
with particular emphasis on The Name of the Rose and Foucault's Pendulum,
demonstrating that they explore problems of interpretation central to the detective
narrative. In doing this, they display an intimate knowledge of generic developments
within the detective tradition, and of the philosophical and aesthetic uses made of the
genre by other writers. The embedding of intertextual references to other detective
narratives within Eco's novels is an important factor, as they come together to form
a narrative of epistemological inquiry that itself follows Eco's philosophical progress
through the years. In short, the novels, inter alia, map a systematic inquiry into the
possibility of systematic inquiry. They reserve the space to engage in such an ironic
and self-referential project precisely through their fictionality
Selecting Rehabilitation Outcome Measures for Persons with Multiple Sclerosis
Despite the well-known benefits of using standardized outcome measures (OMs) in clinical practice, a variety of barriers interfere with their use. In particular, rehabilitation therapists lack sufficient knowledge in selecting appropriate OMs. The challenge is compounded when working with people with multiple sclerosis (MS) owing to heterogeneity of the patient population and symptom variability in individual patients. To help overcome these barriers, the American Physical Therapy Association appointed the Multiple Sclerosis Outcome Measures Task Force to review and make evidence-based recommendations for OM use in clinical practice, education, and research specific to people with MS. Sixty-three OMs were reviewed based on their clinical utility, psychometric properties, and a consensus evaluation of the appropriateness of use for people with MS. We sought to illustrate use of the recommendations for two cases. The first case involves a 43-year-old man with new-onset problems after an exacerbation. The second case pertains to an outpatient clinic interested in assessing the effectiveness of their MS rehabilitation program. For each case, clinicians identified areas that were important to assess and various factors deemed important for OM selection. Criteria were established and used to assist in OM selection. In both cases, the described processes narrowed the selection of OMs and assisted with choosing the most appropriate ones. The recommendations, in addition to the processes described in these two cases, can be used by clinicians in any setting working with patients with MS across the disability spectrum.Peer reviewedCopyright belongs to the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers
