Die Bohlen-Pierce-Klarinette. Theoretische Aspekte und zeitgenössische Anwendungen
Repertoire in Bohlen-Pierce (BP) tuning has grown significantly since the debut of BP clarinets in 2008. Literature specifically dedicated to the BP clarinet, on the other hand, is still rare. Practice-led research conducted by the author provides useful materials about the BP soprano and tenor clarinets, such as contemporary playing techniques or acoustical conditions. The current state of repertoire is shown; exemplary analyses of compositions featuring one or more BP clarinets are given. A new BP specific notation is introduced; it has been developed from a practical point of view and has gained great acceptance among musicians performing in BP. Beside using BP as the (only) tuning system in compositions, it is also possible to combine BP with other scales to achieve effects of extended tonalities or rich microtonal structures. Multiphonics as a very popular phenomenon in contemporary woodwind music are highlighted, providing fingering charts and notational suggestions for both BP soprano and BP tenor clarinets. The theoretical idea of a BP third-tone scale (39div3) is transferred into practice by providing fingering charts and practical advice to performers and composers. I hope that this thesis can give inspiration and advice to those motivated to compose for and perform on BP clarinets, and that BP clarinets will gain the popularity they deserve in contemporary music performance. The BP clarinet and its growing repertoire may widen the range of expression of dedicated clarinet players
Factors Affecting Gingival Excess, Altered Passive Eruption and Recession in the Mandibular Anterior and Premolar Sites
Abstract FACTORS AFFECTING GINGIVAL EXCESS, ALTERED PASSIVE ERUPTION AND RECESSION IN THE MANDIBULAR ANTERIOR AND PREMOLAR SITES By William F Bohlen, D.M.D. A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University, 2010 Major Director: Thomas Waldrop, DDS, MS Program director, Department of Periodontics, Virginia Commonwealth University AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting gingival excess, altered passive eruption and recession. METHODS: 100 subjects were examined clinically and models of their mandible were fabricated. Demographic, periodontal and cast measurements were recorded for each subject. Measurements were made on casts with digital calipers and included clinical crown length, clinical crown width, papillary height and gingival width. The W:L ratio was calculated and the proportion compared to the maxillary arch ideal of .80. Values greater than .80 were used as a cutoff point for defining gingival excess. Measures of periodontal health were also examined and included probing depths, clinical attachment loss and bleeding on probing. Other patient variables examined were history of orthodontics, presence of occlusal and incisal wear, presence of parafunctional habits, subjective appearance of gummy smile and biotype. RESULTS: The mean W:L ratio was found to be 79.6 %. Tooth type (p\u3c0.001), gender (p\u3c0.0237) and biotype (p\u3c0.0081) were found to significantly contribute to a W:L ratio \u3e.80. There was a significant correlation between the subjective appearance of gingival excess and the W:L ratio, regardless of biotype. There was no association between recession and gingival excess. CONCLUSION: Subjectively, 17% of the study subjects had gingival excess. When the author (WB) made the determination that gingival excess was present, there was a significant increase in the W:L ratio for all teeth, regardless of biotype versus teeth without the presence of gingival excess. Proposed ideal W:L ratios for the mandibular anterior teeth from the second premolar to central incisor are listed in Table 11
Two new combinations in Erythranthe section Simiolus (Phrymaceae) for the
Two Chilean members of Mimulus, M. minimus and M. depressus var. ciminum, are transfered to Erythranthe as E. minima and E. depressa var. ciminum respectively. Key words: Mimulus, Scrophulariaceae, nomenclature, Mexico History of the specific taxon Two different species of Mimulus have been published with the same name. One, M. nanus Philippi (1860: 45), is a diminutive, yellow-flowered annual collected by its author in Chile. It is known only from his type collection obtained in the lower Andes of the Atacama Desert (Muñoz Pizzaro 1960, von Bohlen 1995). Later it was reduced in rank to varietal status as M. depressus Philippi (1860: 45) var. nanus (Philippi) Reiche (1911: 62). The specific epithet is not legitimate although the varietal name is acceptable under ICN Article 11.2 (McNeill et al. 2012). The legitimate earlier Mimulus nanus Hooker & Arnott (1839: 379) is a small annual from western North America with rich pink or strong violet-pink corollas. It has lately been transferred to the genus Diplacus as D. nanus (Hooker & Arnott) G.L. Nesom (Barker et al. 2012: 29). While reviewing Mimulus in Chile for a monograph, Christian von Bohlen (1995) concluded that M. nanus of Philippi was distinct from M. depressus, and proposed M. minimus C. Bohlen (1995: 13) as a new name. Hitherto, Reiche's varietal combination had been the accepted name (Marticorena & Quezada 1985: 70). This binomial, in turn, also has a later illegitimate homonym, M. minimus E. Pérez-Calix & Zamudio (2011: 32), given to a recentl

Measurement of self-efficacy in a controversial debating of a mother-child-dyad at a child guidance centre

J Trauma Nurs
The aims of this study were to evaluate the effects on opioid medication prescribing, patient opioid safety education, and prescribing of naloxone following implementation of a Safer Opioid Prescribing Protocol (SOPP) as part of the electronic health record (EHR) system at a Level I trauma center. This was a prospective observational study of the EHR of trauma patients pre- (n = 191) and post-(n = 316) SOPP implementation between 2014 and 2016. At a comparison Level I trauma site not implementing SOPP, EHRs for the same time period were assessed for any historical trends in opioid and naloxone prescribing. After SOPP implementation, the implementation site increased the use of nonnarcotic pain medication, decreased dispensing high opioid dose ( 65100 MME [milligram morphine equivalent]), significantly increased the delivery of opioid safety education to patients, and initiated prescribing naloxone. These changes were not found in the comparison site. Opioid prescribing for acute pain can be effectively reduced in a busy trauma setting with a guideline intervention incorporated into an EHR. Guidelines can increase the use of nonnarcotic medications for the treatment of acute pain and increase naloxone coprescription for patients with a higher risk of overdose.CC999999/Intramural CDC HHSUnited States/U01 CE002516/CE/NCIPC CDC HHSUnited States

Acoustic VTI Full-waveform Inversion with 3-D Free-surface Topography
In land applications, topography variation may impact the imaging if not taken into account. With low-frequency and wide-aperture data, the long-to-intermediate wavelength components of the velocity model can be recovered by full-waveform inversion. Standard static corrections to handle the topography do not work satisfactorily on long-offset data. We present a method to handle 3-D free-surface topography for acoustic FWI by directly modelling the effect of the topography with a finite-difference scheme for the first-order wave equation introduced earlier (Huiskes et al., 2016; Mulder and Huiskes, 2017). The method is based on an immersed interface approach (Lombard et al., 2008) in which the free surface does not have to coincide with the discretization grid, avoiding a staircase-like representation of the topography (Bohlen and Saenger, 2006). We refer to Huiskes et al. (2016) for a more detailed overview of methods for simulating seismic waves interacting with free-surface topography. First, we review the main elements of the numerical scheme that is designed specifically for discretization on standard staggered grids (SSG) using high-order derivative operators, which are modified based on their relative position to the free surface. Next, we extend the approach to vertical transverse isotropic (VTI) media to be able to model velocity anisotropy required in long-offset inversions. In relatively simple synthetic experiments, we then reproduce topography artefacts we have seen on real land fullwaveform inversions, allowing us to quantify the effect of elevation variation on the inversion accuracy.Applied Geophysics and Petrophysic
