Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Uzura dentară reprezintă o condiţie multi-factorială frecvent întâlnită (aproximativ 77% din adulţi, dintre care 2% - severe), cu impact asupra funcţiei, esteticii şi calităţii vieţii orale. Identificarea nevoilor percepute de tratament este esenţială pentru o reabilitare eficientă şi personalizată. Scop. Analiza nevoilor de tratament la pacienţi cu uzură dentară, prin corelarea severităţii clinice cu percepţia pacientului asupra impactului funcţional, estetic şi psihosocial al afecţiunii. Material şi metode. Au fost examinaţi 60 de pacienţi adulţi cu uzură dentară vizibilă (evaluarea severităţii prin indicele Smith&Knight) Evaluarea necesităţii de tratament s-a realizat prin chestionarul PPTN în 3 dimensiuni: funcţionalitate, estetică şi impact psihosocial. Evaluarea statistică s-a realizat descriptiv şi prin analiza corelaţiilor Pearson. Rezultate. Dinţii cei mai afectaţi de uzură au fost incisivii, urmaţi de premolari. Uzura severă a fost asociată cu scoruri mai mari pe toate cele trei dimensiuni, cu un impact deosebit în sfera funcţională (medie: 6.1±2.8). Scorul global PPTN a variat între 12 şi 42 (medie: 26.8±6.9). Persoanele cu uzură dentară severă au raportat semnificativ mai frecvent disconfort la masticaţie şi alimentaţie restricţionată (p=0.003). Corelaţii semnificative au fost identificate între severitatea uzurii şi scorurile din domeniile estetic (r=0.48), funcţional (r=0.52) şi psihosocial (r=0.46). Autoevaluarea nevoii de tratament a fost ridicată în 81.7% din cazuri. Concluzii. Evaluarea percepţiei pacientului asupra impactului uzurii dentare oferă informaţii complementare examinării clinice privind severitatea acesteia. Structurarea răspunsurilor pe dimensiuni funcţionale, estetice şi psihosociale permite personalizarea tratamentului şi prioritizarea intervenţiilor.Introduction. Tooth wear is a common multifactorial condition (affecting approximately up to 77% of adults, off which 2% are severe cases), with an impact on function, aesthetics and quality of oral life. Identification of perceived treatment needs is essential for effective and personalized rehabilitation. Objective. Analysis of treatment needs in patients with tooth wear, by correlating clinical severity with the patient's perception of the functional, esthetic and psychosocial impact of the condition. Material and methods. There were examined 60 adult patients with visible tooth wear (severity assessed by Smith&Knight index). The assessment of treatment needs was carried out using the PPTN questionnaire in 3 dimensions: functionality, esthetics and psychosocial impact. There were performed descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. Results. The teeth most affected by wear were the incisors, followed by the premolars. Severe wear was associated with higher scores on all three dimensions, with a particular impact on the functional sphere (mean: 6.1±2.8). The global PPTN score ranged between 12 and 42 (mean: 26.8±6.9). People with severe tooth wear reported significantly more frequent discomfort during mastication and restricted eating (p=0.003). Significant correlations were identified between the severity of wear and scores in the aesthetic (r=0.48), functional (r=0.52) and psychosocial (r=0.46) domains. Self-assessment of the need for treatment was high in 81.7% of cases. Conclusion. Assessing the patient's perception of the impact of tooth wear provides complementary information besides clinical examination of severity. Structuring responses on functional, aesthetic and psychosocial dimensions allows for the personalization of treatment and prioritization of interventions

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
