There's just something about heroes. Through time people have followed their exploits through stories, found inspiration through them we learn about ourselves. Their names have changed as time goes on Achilles, Theseus, and Rama. They gave way to superman, batman, and the Hulk. The heroes and gods of our past are just that past but what does it say about a culture when it turns a hero from their past into one the modern world's mightiest heroes. This paper will explore how Thor made the journey from a god of legends to a modern day superhero

Letter dated December 18, 1919 from Beach Police Magistrate Thor G. Plomasen to North Dakota (ND) Attorney General William Langer regarding the Ole Skrukrud Case. Plomasen gives an overview of the case, noting it is a whiskey case uncovered by Langer\u27s Flying Squadron, and that Skrukrud was arrested for offering to sell liquor. Plomasen notes that the court date has been moved several times due to the non-appearance of both parties. Plomasen argues that the defendant should either have his hearing or it should be dismissed if there is no evidence, so as to stop wasting money prolonging the case. A handwritten note at the bottom of the letter states that Mr. Skrukrud was admitted to bail of $2,000. See also: Letter from John F. Special Issue on Selected Emerging Trends in Terahertz Science and TechnologyInternational audienceThis paper provides a brief overview on THz communications and subsequently focuses on the application of 300 GHz backhaul and fronthaul links. The fundamentals, planning and software simulation approaches as well as the realized bi-directional 300 GHz demonstrator built within the Horizon 2020 joint EU-Japan project ThoR are described. The ThoR demonstrator uses off-the-shelf modems for network connections and baseband processing, RF front-ends based on InGaAs mHEMT technology and a spurious-free/low-phase noise photonic solution for LO generation. With the ThoR set-up a net data rate of 2 x 20 Gbps over a distance of 150 m using a total instantaneous bandwidth of 8.64 GHz has been demonstrated. It is also shown that the IEEE Std 802.15.3-2023 protocol works correctly for this applicatio

Economic Analysis of Incentives for Foreign Direct Investment in Beef Systems in Argentina and Uruguay

    No full text
The European Union's (EU) ban of hormone-treated beef products in 1989 has virtually eliminated beef exports to the EU from countries where cattle are routinely implanted with growth hormones. This study examined whether or not foreign direct investment in beef systems in Argentina and Uruguay would provide a profitable method for investors who want to export beef to the EU. The results indicate that while investment in these systems is potentially profitable, government interventions designed to keep domestic beef prices low inject considerable risk into the investment decision.Investment in beef systems, South America, risk, cointegration, International Relations/Trade, Livestock Production/Industries,

A Comparison of the Use of Norse Mythology in the Films Thor and Thor: Love and Thunder

    No full text
This bachelor thesis examines the adaptation of Norse mythology in the films Thor (2011) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). by Marvel Studios. The main objective is to analyze how Norse divine beings and mythological elements are adapted into modern cinema and to what extent they deviate from the original myths. The thesis focuses on the accuracy of the portrayal of mythological elements and their transformation within the context of American pop culture. The analysis is based on a comparison of both films in terms of their depiction of mythological characters, narrative elements, and Hollywood storytelling conventions. A key part of the thesis is also the interpretation of these films through the concept of City upon a Hill, derived from John Winthrop's "A Modell of Christian Charity" (1630), and the application of superhero genre theory. The results of the analysis show that Marvel has significantly transformed Norse gods into American superheroes, emphasizing values such as unity and self-sacrifice. The comparison of both films also reveals the increasing influence of Hollywood trends, particularly humor and parody elements, which are more prominent in Thor: Love and Thunder
