Lanthanide single molecule magnets
This book begins by providing basic information on single-molecule magnets (SMMs), covering the magnetism of lanthanide, the characterization and relaxation dynamics of SMMs, and advanced means of studying lanthanide SMMs. It then systematically introduces lanthanide SMMs ranging from mononuclear and dinuclear to polynuclear complexes, classifying them and highlighting those SMMs with high barrier and blocking temperatures – an approach that provides some very valuable indicators for the structural features needed to optimize the contribution of an Ising type spin to a molecular magnet. The final chapter presents some of the newest developments in the lanthanide SMM field, such as the design of multifunctional and stimuli-responsive magnetic materials as well as the anchoring and organization of the SMMs on surfaces. In addition, the crystal structure and magnetic data are clearly presented with a wealth of illustrations in each chapter, helping newcomers and experts alike to better grasp ongoing trends and explore new directions. Metabolomics research on time-selected combination of Liuwei Dihuang and Jinkui Shenqi pills in treating kidney deficiency and aging by chemometric methods
Jinkui Shenqi pill (JKSQ) and Liuwei Dihuang (LWDH) pills are ancient traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), which are usually used for the treatment of kidney deficiency for thousands of years in China. Time-selected combination of LWDH and JKSQ pills in treating kidney deficiency and aging is one of the features of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). However, the molecular mechanisms of time-selected combination remain unclear. In this work, UHPLC-QTOF/MS based metabolomics research was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effect of LWDH, JKSQ pills and their combinations on kidney deficiency in Sprague-Dawley rats induced by D-galactose and Dexamethasone. Based on peak areas of serum extracts, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and graphical index of separation (GIOS) were employed to select the significant variables for kidney deficiency and aging and principal component projection (PCP) was subsequently applied to evaluate the influence of drugs on endogenous metabolites. 10 endogenous metabolites from 22 important ions were identified via database search. The score plot of PCA shows that nourishing Yang-nourishing Yin group shows the strongest rehabilitation for metabolic disorder induced by kidney deficiency and aging, which is consistent with the classic theories of traditional Chinese medicine. Moreover, metabolic pathway function analysis indicates that kidney deficiency and aging might possess closed relationships with lipid metabolism and energy metabolism. In this work, the change trends of potential biomarkers after administration provide molecular evidence for combined administration of Jinkui Shenqi pill in the morning and Liuwei Dihuang pill at night for the patients with kidney deficiency. The method proposed in this study may provide inspiration for evaluation of the therapeutic effect of Chinese medicines by comparing the rehabilitation of potential biomarkers. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Tang Code, Tang Rite, and Other Manuscripts of Tang Dynasty
In the present paper, the author gives the preliminary reports on three newly found Tang 唐 official documents, pointing out their important value, and offering the all texts for further studies.1. In Tunhuang and Turfan Documents concerning Social and Economic History I. Legal Texts (Tokyo 1978-1980), Professors T. Yamamoto, O. Ikeda, and M. Okano published the joined texts of O. 5098 and O. 8099 from Otani collection. They identified the fragments with the Section on Violence and Robbery of the Tang Code (唐律), and pointed out the article comes from the Yonghui 永徽 or Chuigong 垂拱 Code according to the Zetian 則天 characters used in the Buddhist text on the verso. The author joins another fragment based on an old photograph of the Turfan document preserved in the Lüshun Museum (旅順博物館). The new text contains one different article from the printed text after the Song 宋 dynasty.2. Among the Dunhuang 敦煌 manuscripts in the National Library of China in Beijing, there is a good copy of the Tang Rite (唐礼) in high Tang characters (No. zhou 周 70A). It contains the text corresponding to the Da Tang Kaiyuan li 大唐開元礼, vol. 37: “Huangdi shixiang yu Taimiao 皇帝時享於太廟”. It is the first time to find the book in Dunhuang or Turfan manuscripts.3. In his Dunhuang Turfan Tangdai fazhi wenshu kaoshi 敦煌吐魯番唐代法制文書考釈, Liu Junwen thought the document of zhou 51 should be the Regulations of the Regional Military Organization. But the form of the original document could not conform to the Tang Regulations, so the author refutes his view and thinks that it is an official document relating to the beacon of the military fortress in the area of Dunhuang or Turfan.journal articl

Reinventing the Pre-Tang Tradition: Compiling and Publishing Pre-Tang Poetry Anthologies in Sixteenth-Century China
Abstract
This article examines how the making of pre-Tang poetry anthologies in sixteenth-century Ming China led to a reinvention of the pre-Tang poetic tradition. From the Zhengde period 正德 (1506–21) well into the Wanli reign 萬曆 (1573–1620), the compilation and publication of new pre-Tang poetry anthologies saw a dramatic increase, making the anthologizing practices in the 1500s crucial to understanding the pre-Tang tradition. Through a study of paratextual elements (book titles, tables of contents, prefaces, postscripts, etc.) in twenty-two pre-Tang poetry anthologies compiled in the 1500s, this article identifies three types of anthologizing practices. By employing quantitative and network analysis, the author hopes to historicize these practices, investigate the motivations for the anthologies, and explore their citation networks. These anthologizing practices, I conclude, gradually transformed the classification principles of previous anthologies, expanded the scope of canonized anthologies, and established a distinct pre-Tang tradition by the end of the sixteenth century.</jats:p
Magnetic Coupling between Copper(II) Ions Mediated by Hydrogen-Bonded (Neutral) Water Molecules
A new hydrogen-bonded dinuclear copper(II) coordination compound has been synthesized from the Schiff-base ligand 6-(pyridine-2-ylhydrazonomethyl)phenol (Hphp). The molecular structure of [Cu-2(php)(2)(H2O2)(2)(ClO4)](ClO4)- (H2O) (1), determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, reveals the presence of two copper(II) centers held together by means of two strong hydrogen bonds, with O center dot O contacts of only 2.60-2.68 angstrom. Temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements down to 3 K show that the two metal ions are antiferromagnetically coupled (J = -19.8(2) cm(-1)). This exchange is most likely through two hydrogen-bonding pathways, where a coordinated water on the first Cu, donates a H bond to the O atoms of the coordinated php at the other Cu. This strong O center dot H (water) bonding interaction has been clearly evidenced by theoretical calculations. In the relatively few related cases from the literature, this exchange path, mediated by a (neutral) coordinated water molecule, was not recognized

Reduction of hexaazatrinaphthylene (HAN) and its hexamethyl derivative with [Cp*2Sm(THF)2] or [Cp*2Yb(OEt2)] produces [(Cp*2Ln)3(R6HAN)] (Ln = Sm, Yb; R = H, Me), where the heterocyclic ligand forms as a trianion. The magnetism and electronic structure of these compounds reflect unusual multiconfigurational character within the reduced ligand but not the lanthanide ions.</p
