Sequencing and Genomic Analysis of Sorghum DNA Introgression Variant Line R21 and Recipient Rice Jin Hui 1 Revealed Repetitive Element Variation
Transferring the genome of distant species to crops is an efficient way to create new germplasms. However, the molecular mechanisms involved are unclear. In this study, a new rice restorer line R21 with heat tolerance was created by introgressing the genomic DNA of sorghum into the recipient restorer line Jin Hui 1. Assembly of rice R21 and Jin Hui 1 genomes was performed using PacBio sequencing technology. Comparative genome analysis and coverage statistics showed that the repetitive sequence atr0026 was a candidate introgression fragment of sorghum DNA. Sequence similarity analysis revealed that atr0026 was distributed at different copy numbers on the telomeric position of chromosomes 9 or 10 in R21, Jin Hui 1, and several rice varieties, indicating that the repetitive sequence from sorghum was highly conserved in rice. The repeat annotation in Gramineae indicated that ribosomal DNA loci that existed in atr0026 may be cause a rearrangement of chromosomes 9 and 10 of the R21 genome, resulting in a copy number variation at the 5′ end of it. Our study lays the foundation for further elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the heat tolerance of sorghum DNA introgression variant line R21, which is of great significance for guiding crop genetic breeding

Coherent perfect absorption in one-sided reflectionless media
In optical experiments one-sided reflectionless (ORL) and coherent perfect absorption (CPA) are unusual scattering properties yet fascinating for their fundamental aspects and for their practical interest. Although these two concepts have so far remained separated from each other, we prove that the two phenomena are indeed strictly connected. We show that a CPA-ORL connection exists between pairs of points lying along lines close to each other in the 3D space-parameters of a realistic lossy atomic photonic crystal. The connection is expected to be a generic feature of wave scattering in non-Hermitian optical media encompassing, as a particular case, wave scattering in parity-time (PT) symmetric media
Increased capillary stalling is associated with endothelial glycocalyx loss in subcortical vascular dementia
© The Author(s) 2022.Proper regulation and patency of cerebral microcirculation are crucial for maintaining a healthy brain. Capillary stalling, i.e., the brief interruption of microcirculation has been observed in the normal brain and several diseases related to microcirculation. We hypothesized that endothelial glycocalyx, which is located on the luminal side of the vascular endothelium and involved in cell-to-cell interaction regulation in peripheral organs, is also related to cerebral capillary stalling. We measured capillary stalling and the cerebral endothelial glycocalyx (cEG) in male mice using in vivo optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) and two-photon microscopy. Our findings revealed that some capillary segments were prone to capillary stalling and had less cEG. In addition, we demonstrated that the enzymatic degradation of the cEG increased the capillary stalling, mainly by leukocyte plugging. Further, we noted decreased cEG along with increased capillary stalling in a mouse model of subcortical vascular dementia (SVaD) with impaired cortical microcirculation. Moreover, gene expression related to cEG production or degradation changed in the SVaD model.
