Managing haemophilia for life: 4th haemophilia global summit
No full textThe 4th Haemophilia Global Summit was held in Potsdam, Germany, in September 2013 and brought together an international faculty of haemophilia experts and delegates from multidisciplinary backgrounds. The programme was designed by an independent Scientific Steering Committee of haemophilia experts and explored global perspectives in haemophilia care, discussing practical approaches to the optimal management of haemophilia now and in the future. The topics outlined in this supplement were selected by the Scientific Steering Committee for their relevance and potential to influence haemophilia care globally. In this supplement from the meeting, Jan Astermark reviews current understanding of risk factors for the development of inhibitory antibodies and discusses whether this risk can be modulated and minimized. Factors key to the improvement of joint health in people with haemophilia are explored, with Carlo Martinoli and Víctor Jiménez-Yuste discussing the utility of ultrasound for the early detection of haemophilic arthropathy. Other aspects of care necessary for the prevention and management of joint disease in people with haemophilia are outlined by Thomas Hilberg and Sébastian Lobet, who highlight the therapeutic benefits of physiotherapy and sports therapy. Riitta Lassila and Carlo-Federico Perno describe current knowledge surrounding the risk of transmission of infectious agents via clotting factor concentrates. Finally, different types of extended half-life technology are evaluated by Mike Laffan, with a focus on the practicalities and challenges associated with these products. © 2014 John Wiley & Sons Ltd

No full textLa Fundación Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste, junto con la Universidad de Extremadura, propuso en enero del año 2020 la idea de conmemorar el V Centenario de la expedición de la primera vuelta al mundo, en relación con la política imperial del emperador. La idea fue articular un discurso que enlazase los aspectos fundamentales del desarrollo del "Imperium Mundi", que el emperador se afanó en hacer durante su gobierno, en tres escenarios fundamentales: el mar Mediterráneo, el océano Atlántico y el Mar del Sur u océano Pacífico.The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, together with the University of Extremadura, proposed in January 2020 the idea of commemorating the V Centenary of the first expedition around the world, in relation to the imperial policy of the emperor. No full textFor Art and Modern History historians, study oí funerary rites and obsequies is an fascinating subject oí investigation, specially when the protagonist oí them is someone so interesting and charming such as Emperor Charles I/V, who even was present in a requiem mass officiated for himself shortly befare bis own death. This article analyzes religious, social, political, artistic and cultural context around oí imperial obsequies celebrated in Yuste (Spain) and Brussels in 1558. The author sets against and compares sobriety and simplicity oí the first with spectacular and sumptuous scenography oí the second obsequies. Si el estudio del ritual funerario ha venido resultando un campo de investigación fascinante para el historiador del Arte y el modernista, cuanto más si el protagonista del mismo es un personaje tan carismático y seductor en tantos aspectos como el emperador Carlos I/V, quien llegaría a disponer incluso un improvisado anticipo o «ensayo» de sus funerales poco antes de su muerte. El presente trabajo se detiene precisamente en el análisis de los componentes religiosos, sociológicos, políticos, artísticos y culturales que rodearon la celebración de las exequias imperiales en Yuste y Bruselas en 1558, contraponiendo a la austeridad, privacidad y sencillez de las primeras, la espectacularidad y el derroche de boato de las segundas. 
Management of bleeding disorders in adults
No full textDevelopment of FVIII inhibitors is currently the most severe and challenging complication of haemophilia A treatment and represents a very large economic burden for a chronic disease. As a result, clinical research is making major efforts to optimize the therapeutic approaches for this condition. In this section we will review some important aspects of the management of haemophilia in adults, including an overview of bleeding in women with von Willebrand disease, an analysis of FVIII consumption in patients with severe haemophilia A, an update of the ongoing RES.I.ST study, long-term prophylaxis and experience from the Pro.Will study, current evidence relating to economic aspects of the treatment of haemophilic patients with inhibitors (based on the PROFIT study), and an overview of musculoskeletal complications in adults with severe bleeding disorders
El monasterio de Yuste. Análisis histórico-artístico
No full textLa Tesis Doctoral es el primer estudio exhaustivo de los aspectos artísticos del monasterio jerónimo extremeño desde sus orígenes hasta la actualidad.
Partiendo de documentación inédita, se realiza el estudio conjunto de la evolución constructiva y arquitectónica del Monasterio de Yuste y del Palacio de Carlos V, aportando nuevos datos a los ya publicados sobre éste último y revisando algunas cuestiones con respecto a las circunstancias de su origen, su desarrollo arquitectónico y su simbiosis con el monasterio.
Se realiza también un análisis del patrimonio artístico mueble que históricamente ha existido en el monasterio a partir de las fuentes documentales, al tiempo que se hace un seguimiento de las piezas que salieron del mismo con motivo de la desamortización del siglo XIX, localizando e identificando aquellas que se encuentran en otras localidades próximas.
El estudio del patrimonio artístico mueble del Monasterio de Yuste está protagonizado por el del retablo realizado por Antonio de Segura en memoria de Carlos V y por encargo de Felipe II. Realizamos una lectura de esta obra en relación con el Panteón Imperial y la “vanitas” carolina.
Se ocupa la Tesis igualmente de la historia de la restauración del inmueble, analizando las diferentes intervenciones que se han llevado a cabo desde finales del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad.
Los planes museológicos que ha conocido el Monasterio de Yuste y el Palacio de Carlos V, así como la vertiente cultural, turística e institucional de estos edificios a lo largo de los siglos XX y XXI ocupan los capítulos finales de la Tesis.The Doctoral Thesis is the first exhaustive study of the artistic aspects of the Jeronimo’s monastery in Extremadura, from its origins to the present.
Based on unpublished documents, the study is conducted to the constructive and architectural evolution of the Monastery of Yuste and the Palace of Charles V, providing new information to already published on the latter and reviewing issues regarding the circumstances of its origin, its architectural development and its symbiosis with the monastery.
We also perform an analysis of the artistic furniture that has historically existed in the monastery from documentary sources, while we also keeps track of the pieces that came out of it because of the disentailment of the XIX century, locating and identifying those found in other nearby towns.
The study of the artistic heritage of the Monastery of Yuste furniture is starring the altarpiece realized by Anthony of Segura in memory of Charles V and order by Philip II. We performed a reading of this work in relation to the Imperial Pantheon and the “vanitas Carolina”.
The thesis also holds the story of the restoration of the property, analyzing the different interventions that have taken place since the late XIX century to the present.
Museological plans of the Monastery of Yuste and the Palace of Charles V, and the cultural, tourism and institutional aspects of these building along the XX and XXI centuries, occupy the final chapters of the thesis.Junta de Extremadura (3PR05A082
