Collaboration in the context of JeKi: reasons to initiate collaboration and characteristics of reflection of methodical and didactical issues
(DIPF/Orig.)In the context of the programme “An Instrument for Every Child” (JeKi) the participating primary schools collaborate with extra-curricular JeKiteachers from music schools, who teach pupils how to play an instrument. This article focusses the motives for collaboration from the JeKi-teachers’ point of view. The data was assessed by a standardized questionnaire within the “Study of Instrumental Instruction in Primary Schools” (SIGrun). Pupil-related motives are very important; organisational motives like financial aspects are also named, but rated as less important. Due to the fact that working as a JeKi-teacher is a new task, institutions were found to support them. The results show that these institutions play a specific role by giving new impulses for the JeKi-lessons like methodical and didactical issues. (DIPF/Orig.

Inclusion challenge? A multiperspective view on ‘JeKi\u27 at schools with inclusive schooling
(DIPF/Orig.)How suitable is the current program "An Instrument for Every Child” (JeKi) for the implementation of inclusive settings in music education in primary school? Seen from a range of perspectives, the actual practice of the program shows a mixed picture: On the one hand side, headmasters and experts display a huge willingness to incorporate inclusive education as a challenge in the JeKi-program. On the other hand, teachers largely remain skeptical about the implementation of inclusive settings in the program, with half of them wanting to refrain from it if possible. Like in a burning glass, several areas of conflict show up in our study: Children with special needs are more often perceived as troublesome and trouble-causing, than as children to be supported and promoted. However, all stakeholders in the program show awareness about the central dilemma of stigmatizing children, when being informed about their special needs status. (DIPF/Orig.

Approaches to Music Education in Germany for multicultural coexistence support Overview of the “ JeKi ” Project in Hamburg
This Study reports and discusses about “Jeki” - a project of introducing instrumental music to Grundschule of Hamburg in Germany. From the beginning of the 21st century on, Germany have been receiving massive immigrants from Middle East and other European countries. The German federal government introduced Jeki with the purpose of permeating multiculturalism through music. My field work was examined on March of 2019. The structure of the report consists of three sections below:
1. A history and system of Jeki project
2. Classroom observartions of third and fourth graders in The Grundschule Hamburg
3. The interview with Mrs. Gabriela Huslage who is the chief manager and the teachers in the Jeki - Grundschulen on concepts and curriculum.
departmental bulletin pape

Learning Musical Instruments in German Primary Schools : JeKi-Program in Hamburg
This paper aimed to clarify the institutional framework and learning contents of a school music program focused on learning musical instruments in Hamburg, Germany, and to discuss the impact of the program. The program, “Jedem Kind ein Instrument (JeKi),” in English “a musical instrument for every child,” has been conducted in selected primary schools in Hamburg since 2009. In the first grade, music classes of 2 hours per week based on curriculum guidelines set by the Ministry of Education are provided. In the second grade, pupils take 1 hour of music class and 1 hour of JeKi lessons about musical instruments per week. After becoming familiar with each family of instruments through practical use, students choose the instrument they will learn from the next grade onward. During third and fourth grade, they learn how to play the instrument in small groups once a week, and participate in student concerts. Through field investigation, it was recognized that the JeKi-program has considerable impact, including raising the cultural level of underprivileged children, having a ripple effect on education from child to parent, and improving the quality of music learning through incorporating normal music class and instrument lessons. As a future challenge, giving full consideration to instrument choice and improving instructional skills of music teachers were suggested
