No full textJohnny Nargoodah and Trent Jansen have been collaborating in the design and crafting of collectable furniture since they met in Johnny’s home town of Fitzroy Crossing, as part of Fremantle Art Centre’s ‘In Cahoots’ project in 2016. For that project they worked with fellow Mangkaja artist, Rita Minga to design an armchair that was their interpretation of a local mythical creature called the ‘Jangarra’ (2017), now in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, as well as the ‘Collision Collection’ (2017), born out of experimentation with leather in combination with old car panels found in the scrub around Fitzroy Crossing.
‘Ngumu Jangka Warnti’ (2020) is the Walmajarri phrase for ‘whole lot from rubbish’. The design of this collection began with a trip to the local scrap metal yard, in a vague search for anything interesting. Johnny and Trent salvaged a selection of discarded aluminium mesh and used this found metal as the starting point for experimentation. Trent and Johnny designed these pieces as they made them, starting with a mesh substrate cut vaguely in the shape of a chair, and together beat the material with hammers, concrete blocks and tree stumps until it took on a form that they both liked. This beaten geometry was then softened by laminating New Zealand saddle leather to skin the mesh, masking its geometry and softening its idiosyncratic undulations

Get PDFThis article presents for the first time a series of houses built by the pioneering Dutch architect Wilhelmina Jansen, the only one of the first female graduates to have her own architectural office. Her architectural practice was nurtured by her active participation in numerous women\u27s networks and her work in the Women\u27s Advisory Committee VAC, a voluntary women\u27s organisation that advised the Municipality of Rotterdam on housing and the environment.
Jansen\u27s houses represent a concept of modernity where forms were thought and experienced from a precursory feminist perspective. Despite these values, her work is absent from the historiography of modern Dutch architecture narrated on the basis of male figures and iconic objects. Her discovery is the result of intensive research in her personal archives, interviews and the survey of the works. Paradoxically, from the margins of modernity, Jansen\u27s works have innovated in discussions that today are central, such as architecture with a gender perspective.Este artículo presenta por primera vez una serie de viviendas construidas por la pionera arquitecta holandesa Wilhelmina Jansen, la única de las primeras egresadas en tener su propio estudio de arquitectura. Su práctica arquitectónica se nutrió de su participación activa en numerosas redes de mujeres y su labor en el Comité Asesor de Mujeres VAC, una organización de mujeres voluntarias que asesoró al Municipio de Rotterdam sobre la vivienda y el medio ambiente.
Las casas de Jansen representan un concepto de modernidad donde las formas eran pensadas y experimentadas desde una precursora perspectiva feminista. More specifically, it has been suggested that crossover in GAs can assemble short low-order schemata of above average fitness (building blocks) to create higher-order higher-fitness schemata. However, there has been considerable difficulty in demonstrating this rigorously and intuitively. Here we provide a simple building-block function that a GA with two-point crossover can solve on average in polynomial time, whereas an asexual population or mutation hill-climber cannot
