Letter from Earle and Mimi Yusa to Joseph R. and Elizabeth B. Goodman
Letter from Earle and Mimi Yusa to Joseph R. and Elizabeth B. Goodman. Letter mentions contentious objector status for a draft, and Mimi's pregnancy. Letter reflects on incarcerees contact with American Indians: "The contacts with Indian people around here have awakened many of us to the extent of the dangers of these concentration camps. The problem that exist with the Indians is one that needs greater attention that [than] that of ours. Are we trying to solve one problem while another with deeper roots remains neglected? I wonder where our consistency is?" Letter also mentions "our SCA group and student relocation hasn't gone anywhere," and writes of "apathy, complacency, ward-of-the government attitude, and fear of the outside" in the camp. And, "as far as my resettling is concerned, I'm really in a dilemma as what I should do."Personal correspondence, organizational records, government documents, publications, and other papers created or collected by Joseph R. Goodman documenting the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, as well as organized resistance to incarceration. Included in the collection are records of the Japanese Young Men's Christian Association and the Japanese American Citizens' League in San Francisco, including papers of the Japanese YMCA's executive secretary Lincoln Kanai; Sakai family papers; Goodman's correspondence to and from Japanese American incarcerees, organizations opposing forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans, the War Relocation Authority, and others; publications, photographs, and ephemera from the Topaz Relocation Center, where Goodman taught high school; War Relocation Authority records and publications; and newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and reports about forced removal and incarceration created by various government, religious, and civic organizations, in California and nationwide

For the magazine Pomme d’Api, Agnès Rosenstiehl invents a little girl character, full of vivacity, transforming everyday life into a celebration, both through her language and her games. More impertinent than Petit Ours Brun, Mimi Cracra is one of the rebellious girls, although her young age does not allow her to join in. While her author takes time to stabilise her facial features, the heroine has endured through time thanks to her multiple adaptations in picturebooks, cartoons and novels, which play between faithful repetition, rewriting and adaptations to a specific publishing medium, but also thanks to the constantly renewed adjustments to the layout in the press title during nearly forty years. Mimi Cracra is above all emblematic of an evolution in the representation of the little child, in particular in her way of speaking, in phylactery and onomatopoeia. Her speech shows an apprehension of the world through all her senses. Her freshness and accuracy of tone make her a founding heroine, both in her time and timeless
“Mimi-udon”.Japanese home-made cuisine of the next generation in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture
The purpose of this study is to examine the origins and present of local udon noodles as they have been passed down in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture. Mimi-udon is a local dish that has been handed down in the Semba area, of Sano City. The Semba area is a district in which the inhabitants did not eat rice cakes during the New Year, and instead Mimi-udon was mainly served as a New Year’s event food.
There are various theories about the origin of the name. One claims that it comes from trimmings of udon noodles (called“ mimi”). Another theory claims it is from old lore regarding“ mimifusagi-mochi,” the folk belief that“ if one eats ear-shaped food during the New Year, they will not hear anything bad all year round”.
It is widely believed that Mimi-udon began to be made sometime between the middle Edo period and the Meiji period. Since its cooking method is similar to "Mimi" in Yamanashi Prefecture, Mimi-udon is thought to have been inspired from the area.
In recent years, while handing down the tradition, its development has been continued for new uses such as pasta and Japanese sweets. The author concludes that this local area and wishes for this cuisine to be inherited in the next generations' community.departmental bulletin pape
