    Challenges Facing Teaching and Learning of Gender Education in Nigerian Universities

    The article discussed the problems facing the teaching and learning of Gender education in the Nigerian universities. Secondary data was used to support the points raised in the article. The secondary data were sourced from print material and online publications by recognized institutions and individual author. There are many problems facing the teaching and learning of Gender studies in Nigerian universities. Some of the problems include: inadequate funding of Gender education programme, inadequate lecturers, inadequate infrastructural facilities, brain-drain, institutional corruption, inadequate studies materials, poor research, poor capacity development of lecturers and few universities offers Gender education programmes. To solve these challenges, this article recommends: that the government should increase the funding of Gender studies programme in the universities, employ more lecturers that specialized in Gender education, provide adequate infrastructural facilities, provide adequate instructional materials on Gender education, ensure effective staff development programme and effective motivation policy to prevent brain-drain

    Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic School Close Down on the Research Programme of Higher Institutions

    The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of covid-19 pandemic school close down on the research programme of higher institutions in Abuja, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was used for the study and 4 research questions was developed for the study. Random sampling method was used to select 120 researchers in the four sampled institutions. The instrument used for collection of data was a structured questionnaire. Result collected revealed that 100% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic school closure have impact on research program of higher institutions in FCT, 100% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic will affects the flow of international research grants into higher institutions in FCT, 92% of the respondents agreed that Covid-19 pandemic will affects government funding of research higher institutions in FCT and 100% agreed that higher institutions as part of their community services by creating awereness to the general public on prevention of covid-19.The study also showed that 100% of the respondents agreed that higher institutions in Federal Capital Territory are collaborating with other institutions on the research for covid-19 vaccine while 69.17% of the respondents agreed that higher institutions in FCT are producing face masks for free distributions for the people to protect them from containing the covid-19 in Abuja. Based on this finding, this paper thereby recommends that government should increase the funding of research programme in Abuja and other higher institutions in the country

    An Investigation into the Challenges Preventing Students of Educational Administration and Planning from Using ICT for Learning in Nigeria Higher Institutions

    The main purpose of this research work is to investigate the challenges preventing students of educational administration and planning from using ICT for learning in Nigeria higher institutions: a case study of university of Abuja, Nigeria. The sample for this study was all the students in university of Abuja. 50 students from each level of the department of educational administration and planning totaling 200 were randomly selected from the department using simple random sampling technique. One hypothesis and three research questions were postulated as a guide to this study and a seven sub-items questionnaire divided into two sections was used to get the required information. A simple percentage and chi-square were used to test the hypotheses at 0.95% level of significance. It was found out that there are challenges preventing students of educational administration and planning from using ICT for learning. The challenges preventing students of educational administration and planning from using ICT for learning includes; unstable power supply, lack of personal laptop or computer system, unstable ICT Network services, lack of computer literacy by the students, High cost of ICT services, poor infrastructural facilities of ICT in higher institutions and poor computer literacy of the lecturers. Base on the findings, the researchers recommends that the government should increase the funding of education in Nigeria to enable schools administrators provide necessary ICT facilities in their various schools

    The study investigated the challenges preventing girl child from going to Universal Basic Education (UBE) in Gwagwalada area council of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. Research survey design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised all the teachers in the selected ten basic schools sampled for the study. Two hundred teacher made up of (120 male and 80 females) was used for the study. Simply sampling technique was first used to select the basic schools and teachers for the study. Two research questions were developed for the study. Questionnaire was employed for data collection. The questionnaire was titled “investigate the challenges preventing girl child from going to Universal Basic Education questionnaire”. The questionnaire had two sections. Section A and Section B. Section was meant for collection of bio-data information while section B collected information on the research topic. The research instrument was corrected by two lecturers in the faculty of education. The content validity of the instrument was determined by experts in Educational Planning and Test and Measurement who matched all the with the research questions to ascertain whether or not the instrument actually measured the intended content. Two hundred questionnaires were sent out to the respondents and the two hundred was collected through a research assistant engaged for the job. Simply percentage was used to analyze the data collected in the study

    Investigation into the Challenges Facing Planning of Mathematic Programme in Senior Secondary Education in Abuja, Nigeria.

    The aim of this study is to investigate the challenges facing the planning of mathematics programme in Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive research survey design. The population of the study comprised ninety (90) respondents. Stratified and systematic sampling technique was used to select the sample population. The study employed the used of questionnaire as instrument for data collection. Two lecturers from Educational Administration and planning from University of Abuja was consulted to validate the questionnaire. Three research questions and two hypotheses were developed for the study. Test-retest reliability was employed for the study. Percentage and Chi-square test was used to test the hypotheses and data collected from the study. The result revealed that there are challenges facing the planning of mathematics programme of senior secondary education and the challenges includes; inadequate data/information to plan, inadequate funding of planning of mathematics programme, poor capacity development of few mathematics planners, inadequate professional mathematics planners ,political instability, corruption and lack of political will to support planning of mathematics education. The study concluded that the implication of the challenges on the implementation mathematics education is poor implementation of the mathematics programme in the senior secondary schools. The study recommends that the government should increase the funding of educational planning in the country especially mathematics education

    Insecurity is frustrating the development of education in Nigeria. Educational institutions have been turned to field of kidnapping for bandits and insurgents. This paper analyses the impact of insecurity challenges on administration of secondary school education in North-West Nigeria. The paper employed secondary school data which were sourced from print and online medium. The paper concludes that the insecurity challenges in North- West Nigeria have led to death of teachers and students, affected achievement of education objectives, enrolment and retention of students and also led to discruption of school administration and academic calendar of the secondary schools across the zone. Based on this, the paper recommended that the federal and state government should employ every strategies to solve the problems of school attacks in the geo-political zones of Nigeria. This problem can be addressed by addressing the problem of unemployment in the region and increasing the number of security surveillance in the zone

    National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) in Nigeria: Achievement, Problems of Implementation and way Forward

    National feeding programme is one of the national programme designed for the basic education with the aim to increase the school enrolment in Nigeria. The implementation of this programme since inception is faced with many challenges. This article examines the problem facing the implementation of the programme. This article identified inadequate funding, increase in population, corruption, poor monitoring and evaluation, lack of data to plan, delay in releasing money, inflation and insecurity problem as the challenges preventing the implementation of the programme. To address these challenges, the article recommended adequate funding of the programme, improvement in the monitoring and evaluation of the programme, redefine the roles of each tier of government in the implementation of the programme, government should monitor the funds released for the implementation of the programme and ensure political will of the implementation of the programme

    Impact of Poor Planning of Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria and the ways Forward

    Planning is vital to the realization of secondary school education. Educational planning is the foundation that sets the direction for implementation of educational programme. It is unfortunate that public secondary schools are poorly planned in Nigeria. This paper intends to discuss the impact of poor planning of public secondary school in Nigeria. Secondary data was used in the paper. This paper identified inadequate funding of public secondary schools, shortage of professional teachers, inadequate infrastructural facilities and over-population of students as the impact of poor planning of public secondary school education in Nigeria.  To address the problem of poor planning of secondary schools, the paper hereby recommended; effective financial planning, effective manpower planning, effective infrastructural facilities and proper forecasting of students and facilities as the ways to improve the planning and implementation of public secondary school education programme in Nigeria
