Fusion of Multitemporal Multi-Angle ENVISAT ASAR and HJ-1 Data for Object-based Urban Land Cover Classification
The key goal of this work is to analyze the synergistic effects of multitemporal data fusion for urban land cover mapping. In particular this analysis is carried out using multitemporal ENVISAT ASAR images and one Chinese HJ-1 optical image acquired over Beijing in 2009. The major land cover classes are high-density built-up areas, low-density built-up areas, roads, airports, forests, parks, golf courses, grass/pasture, crops, bare fields and water. The methodology used in this research including orthorectification, SAR speckle filtering, and object-based classification. The segmentation is based on the newly developed algorithm KTH-SEG that utilizes an edge-aware region growing and merging approach. Fusion of the various combinations of multitemporal multi-angle SAR data and HJ-1 data were compared with SAR and optical data alone. The preliminary results show that the fusion of ENVISAT ASAR and HJ-1 data performed much better than optical data alone or SAR data alone. The fusion of 4-date SAR data and optical data can achieve similar classification accuracy as the fusion of 8-date SAR data and optical data if multi-angle, dual look direction SAR data with suitable temporal compositions are selected. Compared to eCognition, the KTH-SEG performed better in extracting linear features such as roads and rivers.</p
EVALUATION ON CONSISTENCY BETWEEN HJ-1 CCD AND TM IMAGES IN MONITORING FRACTIONAL GREEN VEGETATION COVER
The fractional green vegetation cover (Fc) is an important climate model parameter. Remote sensing technique has become one of the most effective means to acquire vegetation dynamics information. The CCD cameras onboard HJ-1 satellites (Environment and Disaster monitoring and forecasting Satellite constellation) are advanced in revisit frequency and image coverage compared with Landsat TM. This study aims to assess the capability of HJ-1 CCD images in monitoring of Fc in terms of comparing with the widely used TM images. The quality of HJ-1 CCD is compared with the same temporal TM image in two aspects: the image statistical analysis and the image application analysis. After the comparison between the HJ-1 CCD image and TM image of the same area. The results show a high level of uniform between HJ-1 and TM images. Therefore, the conclusion may be drawn that the HJ-1 CCD image is feasible and suitable for Fc monitoring.Engineering, Electrical & ElectronicGeosciences, MultidisciplinaryRemote SensingEICPCI-S(ISTP)
Object-Based Fusion of Multitemporal Multiangle ENVISAT ASAR and HJ-1B Multispectral Data for Urban Land-Cover Mapping
The objectives of this research are to develop robust methods for segmentation of multitemporal synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical data and to investigate the fusion of multitemporal ENVISAT advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR) and Chinese HJ-1B multispectral data for detailed urban land-cover mapping. Eight-date multiangle ENVISAT ASAR images and one-date HJ-1B charge-coupled device image acquired over Beijing in 2009 are selected for this research. The edge-aware region growing and merging (EARGM) algorithm is developed for segmentation of SAR and optical data. Edge detection using a Sobel filter is applied on SAR and optical data individually, and a majority voting approach is used to integrate all edge images. The edges are then used in a segmentation process to ensure that segments do not grow over edges. The segmentation is influenced by minimum and maximum segment sizes as well as the two homogeneity criteria, namely, a measure of color and a measure of texture. The classification is performed using support vector machines. The results show that our EARGM algorithm produces better segmentation than eCognition, particularly for built-up classes and linear features. The best classification result (80%) is achieved using the fusion of eight-date ENVISAT ASAR and HJ-1B data. This represents 5%, 11%, and 14% improvements over eCognition, HJ-1B, and ASAR classifications, respectively. The second best classification is achieved using fusion of four-date ENVISAT ASAR and HJ-1B data (78%). The result indicates that fewer multitemporal SAR images can achieve similar classification accuracy if multitemporal multiangle dual-look-direction SAR data are carefully selected.</p

VALIDATION FOR THE ABSOLUTE RADIOMETRIC CALIBRATION OF THE HJ-1B CCD SENSORS OF CHINA
On September 6, 2008, the satellite HJ-1B was launched into a sun-synchronous, near-polar orbit. In order to determine temporal changes of the absolute radiometric calibration of the HJ-1B satellite in flight, a program was carried out at DunHuang calibration field, Gansu province of China, from August 19 to 30, 2009. In this work, reflectance -based calibration method was employed to simulate the absolute calibration coefficients of the HJ-1B CCD sensors. Then the cotton field, cement court, water pool and test site was selected to validate the calibration coefficient. The validation results indicated that there had a good agreement between the imaged-based reflectance and the ground measurement of the type of cement court and test site. On the other hand, there had a disagreement of the type of cotton field and water because of the effect of mixed pixel.Geosciences, MultidisciplinaryRemote SensingEICPCI-S(ISTP)

MONITORING OF DEGRADING GRASSLAND BASED ON HJ-1A-HSI IMAGE
Grassland is one of the most important parts of ecosystem on the earth. In China, one of the best grass lands is degrading because of draught or effects of human activity. It is important to monitor the growing condition of degrading grasslands. LAI is an important variable which can accurately represent the growing situation of grass. With DSD method, hyper-spectral images from HJ-1A satellite are used to inverse LAI accurately by restraining the effect of background. In this paper, multi spectral image was used to retrieve LAI with BRDF method for comparing. The maps of LAI and degradation level in study area were made. According to the results, the DSD method can retrieve LAI of grassland accurately and the HSI image of HJ-1A is a potential ideal data source for monitoring grassland.http://gateway.webofknowledge.com/gateway/Gateway.cgi?GWVersion=2&SrcApp=PARTNER_APP&SrcAuth=LinksAMR&KeyUT=WOS:000345638900196&DestLinkType=FullRecord&DestApp=ALL_WOS&UsrCustomerID=8e1609b174ce4e31116a60747a720701Engineering, Electrical & ElectronicGeosciences, MultidisciplinaryRemote SensingCPCI-S(ISTP)
The theme of 'blessing for the nations' in the patriarchal narratives of genesis.
The universalistic promise expressed by a formula with the theme
"Blessing for the Nations" in the Old Testament is primarily
found in the patriarchal narratives (Gen. l2-35). This aspect
of the patriarchal narratives however has not been adequately
studied. Previous discussions of the theme, based primarily
on 12:1-3, and conducted within the framework of the Yahwist's
work, are shown to be inadequate in our survey in shedding light
on the positioning and significance of the theme in the overall
patriarchal narratives. The survey indicates a literary analysis
of these narratives could probably yield more positive results.
2. A. formulaic analysis shows that the niphal form is
used at the beginning of a
patriarchs career to express a
probationary, and the hithpael form to express a
reaffirmatory, relationship of the patriarch to the promised
universal destiny. Strikingly, the 'seed' plays a prominent
role in the destiny. The formula also serves to link the
patriarchs' calling to the primeval history and the history of
the early formative period of the Israelite people.
3. The Abraham story (Gen.12-.22) is encased by the theme. A
double-chiastic arrangement of the narratives (in two groups)
shows a movement of horizon from the particularistic to the
universalistic. The universal horizon of Abraham's initial call
(12:1-3), displaced in the first half of the structure, is
reaffirmed in the latter half. Gen. l6 stands out as the nadir
and turning-point of the overall story. The notices of Isaac's
birth are instructively "positioned' in the universalistic
sector of the double-chiasmus. Moreover, the formula is
pronounced in narratives which portray Abraham as reversing the
negative results of the key events in the primeval history.
4. The Isaac narrative (Gen. 26) is shown to be "demonstration-material" of the initial actualisation of the theme. The
narrative is coherently structured around an emphatic divine
command, a unique twin-promise, and Isaac's response in a series
of movements, climaxing in Abimelech's sudden visit to and
significant confession of Isaac's status. Gen.26 is also
shown to be a "quintessence" of the Abraham story and forms a
critique of and model for Jacob's understanding and actualisation of his destiny.
5. The theme is shown to underline the Jacob story (Gen.25-35),
especially in the Jacob-.Esau cycles. Jacob's character transformation and reconciliation with Esau are necessary pre-requisites
before the reaffirmation' of the universal destiny to him at
Bethel. Significantly, the creation mandate is re-issued to
Jacob-Israel the seed of Abraham and Isaac, when a. formula
pronouncement is expected.. Finally, Jacob-Israel is shown to
form a parallel with Abraham whose call also expresses Yahwehs
re-affirmation of his creational intentions for mankind
