Virtual reality in the service of user participation in architecture

    No full text
The issue of user participation in the processes of building and urban design is enjoying renewed attention following its relative neglect over the last 20 years due, in large measure, to significant advances in emerging information technologies, particularly multimedia, virtual reality and internet technologies. This paper re-established the theoretical framework for participatory design evolved in the late sixties and early seventies as part of the movement towards a more explicit design methodology and attempts an explanation of why the concept failed to gain commitment from the architectural and urban design professionals. The paper then gives an account of two significant developments in the evolution of the application of information technologies with which the authors have been engaged. These are: i. a responsive and interactive interface to wholly immersive and realistic virtual reality representations of proposed buildings and urban neighbourhoods. ii. an intuitive and platform-independent VR modelling environment allowing collaborative evolution of the scheme from within the virtual world. The impact of these IT developments is demonstrated in the context of the design of a leisure facility for a community of users with physical impairment

V današnjem času hitrega napredka in sprememb mora podjetje slediti spremembam v poslovanju, trendom in vedno večjim zahtevam obiskovalcev spletnih strani. V teoretičnem delu diplomskega projekta sem predstavil definicijo elektronskega poslovanja in najpomembnejše korake do vzpostavitve uspešnega elektronskega poslovanja. Spletne strani so namenjene hitremu, razumljivemu in preprostemu prikazu informacij. Ljudje hitro zapustijo spletno stran, v kolikor niso dobili željene informacije. In today\u27s time of rapid progress and change, the company must follow the change in the business, the trends and growing requirements of the website visitors. The wave of change has been its influence also on the way of life and business, which shows the need for increasing computerising of the business. High-quality and attractive website in today\u27s of the utmost importance, since the company in this way is the easiest way to present, attracting a potential buyer and gives the company a lot of business opportunities. In the theoretical part of the graduate project I introduced a definition of electronic commerce and the most important steps to creating a successful e-commerce. I have introduced the types and characteristics of the web page, I described the steps to successful e-business, presented the advantages and disadvantages of websites and identified what we need to do to ensure the security of the website. In the practical part of graduate project, I used the acquired knowledge to analyze the websites of micro breweries in Slovenia. I choosed to restrict only on the Slovenian micro breweries. The analysis I made were based on the criteria for evaluation of websites. I\u27ve noticed that Slovenian micro breweries sufficiently informed about the relevance of the web page, however, is still for most a lot of room for improvement. Websites are intended to provide a quick, understanding and simple way to view informations. People quickly leave a website if they do not get directly the information. Because of this reason the website must be informative, interesting, simple to browse and fast to load. For the quality and performance of the website is necessary to listen to the wishes and needs of the website users, as they will be in the future the only real source, from which will entrepreneurs drew information and improve their business

Soybean yield potencial in petric plinthosols: climate and economic interactions.

    No full text
ABSTRACT: Soybean production in central Brazil predominantly occurs on ferralsols. However, increasing global demand has driven expansion into marginal areas with less suitable soils, particularly petric plinthosols. These soils present significant agronomic challenges, especially their heightened vulnerability to climatic variability. Nevertheless, some regions with petric plinthosols, such as parts of Tocantins state, have achieved surprisingly high soybean yields. Despite this production potential, research on soybean cultivation in petric plinthosols are still limited. Our study addresses this knowledge gap by evaluating how environmental conditions and management practices, particularly sowing dates, affect soybean yields in petric plinthosols compared to ferralsols. We also developed economic indicators to support sustainable production decisions. The results demonstrated that while high yields are achievable in petric plinthosols, these soils exhibit greater climate sensitivity than ferralsols. Environmental factor such as air humidity, mainly in the reproductive phase, is a limiting factor for higher yields. Notably, our economic analysis revealed that cost management impacts profitability more substantially than yield improvements, even under unfavourable conditions. This finding suggests that strategic farm management could make petric plinthosol cultivation economically viable despite their agronomic constraints

The META university, stablished in 2000, facilitates international collaboration at the Master-level. Since September 2003 the Doctor Phase has been added to the Bologna process. Universities now offer (at least) 3 levels of education: Bachelor, Master and Doctor. Joint degrees and joint education of the advanced levels (Master & Doctor) is one of the measures to increase quality and employability of young professionals and researchers. In this set-up the META-university is the place to develop and plan courses, while USO-Built is in essence a research school. Questions to be answered include: (i) How may these 2 initiatives strengthen each other?, and (ii) How should the collaboration be organized

Process orientation of the world heritage city management system

    No full text
Purpose. – This article aims to explain how the world heritage city management system may be improved, and the structure of its processes enhanced by including relevant stakeholders to reach better results,i.e. outputs and outcomes. With this aim, process-based orientation is proposed as a new managementapproach.Design/methodology. – The article is divided into two parts. In the first part, theoretical background ofthe world heritage city management system is given, and process orientation of heritage city manage-ment explained. In the second part theoretical concepts were applied to the cases of the world heritage cities (sites) of Split (Croatia) and Venice (Italy). A brief description of the basic characteristics (elements, processes) and of the main problems related to the results (outputs and outcomes) is followed by the application of the Unified Modelling Language as the method. The process architecture of the new management meta-model is presented, processes designed and documented, and activities and responsibilities among stakeholders, both existing as well as potential, within the proposed hierarchical structure shared.Findings. – By proposing the process-oriented approach to the management of world heritage cities, the paper sets out to contribute to the growing body of knowledge related to cultural heritage management(especially world heritage cities). By applying knowledge from different theories into a process-based approach to the management of world heritage cities, it enables UNESCO’s directives to be implemented into the actual managerial system of a World Heritage Site (WHS). We find it potentially useful not only to WHS managers, but also to scholars and other experts who have managerial responsibilities but limited knowledge in this area.sponsorship: This article is based on research done in the context of the SmartCulTour project that has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement no. 870708.
