    Frida Kahlo: imagens (auto)biográficas

    No full text
This dissertation aims to show how different narratives can build a diversity of images (auto) biographicals of Frida Kahlo from her own legacy material: letters, journal and self-portraits. The writing of herself and the daily life eternization by her memories lead to biographical constructions of Frida Kahlo specially the ones written by Patricia Mayayo in Frida Kahlo- against the mith; Rauda Jamis in Frida Kahlo; and Jill Laidlaw in Frida Kahlo. The biografema concept, of Barthes, will serve as a basis of a reading through fragments and details

Providing a teaching and learning open and innovative toolkit for evidence-based practice to nursing European curriculum (EBP e-Toolkit): Project rationale and design

    No full text
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an instrument of great utility in making clinical decisions in nursing care, improving the quality of nursing care and patients’ health outcomes. There is no European framework for EBP competency, and no guidelines for EBP teaching. The general concept of the project ‘Providing a Teaching and Learning Open and Innovative Toolkit for Evidence-based Practice to Nursing European Curriculum: (EBP e-Toolkit)’ is to fill this gap in Nursing education across Europe and to foster and harmonize the teaching and learning of EBP in the European nursing curricula and to produce the acquisition of EBP competence earlier in professional life. The project is organized along four major outputs, and a dissemination and sustainability plan has been set up. A mixed method research constitutes the main methodological approach applied in the project. This methodology requires the active participation of all research groups, partners, steering committee, nursing students, and educators, in the project. The use of the EBP e-Toolkit will increase nurses’ and nursing students’ level of EBP competence by formulating specific guidelines to be implemented in EBP teaching

    Gotlib's progress

    No full text
This article traces the development of the French bande dessinée artist Marcel Gotlib (b.1934). In the following pages, we shall discuss Gotlib's strips Gai-Luron and Rubrique à brac, plus some of his work with Fluide glacial; we shall also draw upon an interview which Gotlib gave me in Paris, November 2001.1 As we shall see, Gotlib makes fun of the whole process of growing up in a French-speaking country; moreover, his jokes often hinge upon references to French history and culture which most French readers can recognise, but which most English-speakers cannot. The influence of a distinctively French-speaking historical and cultural heritage over Gotlib will become particularly apparent when we compare him to the American comic strip humorists of his day: Mad magazine and the Underground

Selected qualities of mobile maps for indoor navigation

    No full text
The map is the key element in any navigation system. The dynamic growth of indoor navigation systems requires improvements in quality not only of positioning systems but also of maps of building interiors. Most emergent solutions in this field do not use cartographic knowledge. Cartographic methodology for representing building interiors is still in its initial stages of development. Its proper use may, however, be of great importance to the effectiveness of indoor navigation. The author presents important features that indoor mobile maps should possess, for both the data model and the presentation method to be used. In this context, the question of the contemporary definition of a map is also discussed

W artykule opisano podstawowe cechy wielorozdzielczych i wieloreprezentacyjnych baz danych przestrzennych. The article describes basic features of multiresolution and multirepresentation spatial databases. The author paid attention to the ways of presentation of geometry of objects in databases of this kind, to the methods of connection of various geometrical representations of the same objects, as well as to the importance of creation of the right hierarchy of notions of objects and metadata. In the second part of the article the author indicated a possibility of introduction of this kind of solution in the process of creation of topographical databases by the Polish civil geodesy and cartography service

Next-Generation JAK2 Inhibitors for the Treatment of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms: Lessons from Structure-Based Drug Discovery Approaches

    No full text
Data source: Supplementary data, https://doi.org/10.1158/2643-3230.BCD-22-0189Selective inhibitors of Janus kinase (JAK) 2 have been in demand since the discovery of the JAK2 V617F mutation present in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN); however, the structural basis of V617F oncogenicity has only recently been elucidated. New structural studies reveal a role for other JAK2 domains, beyond the kinase domain, that contribute to pathogenic signaling. Here we evaluate the structure-based approaches that led to recently-approved type I JAK2 inhibitors (fedratinib and pacritinib), as well as type II (BBT594 and CHZ868) and pseudokinase inhibitors under development (JNJ7706621). With full-length JAK homodimeric structures now available, superior selective and mutation-specific JAK2 inhibitors are foreseeable. Significance: The JAK inhibitors currently used for the treatment of MPNs are effective for symptom management but not for disease eradication, primarily because they are not strongly selective for the mutant clone. The rise of computational and structure-based drug discovery approaches together with the knowledge of full-length JAK dimer complexes provides a unique opportunity to develop better targeted therapies for a range of conditions driven by pathologic JAK2 signaling.Pramod C. Tango Revivals: Nostalgia, Listening, Experimentation

    No full text
This article examines the history and culture of Argentinian tango as a translocal social dance and emphasizes its revivalist component along with other characteristic features: nostalgia, listening, and experimentation. It represents the partial and the preliminary result of the author’s anthropological research that they are currently conducting as part of the doctoral programme at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University in Prague. The author concludes that both nostalgic beliefs and the desire to create something new contribute to the process of tango revival. This article examines the history and culture of Argentinian tango as a translocal social dance and emphasizes its revivalist component along with other characteristic features: nostalgia, listening, and experimentation. The Effects of War: Prague’s Tango Community After the Start of the War in Ukraine

    No full text
This article examines the impact of the Russo-Ukrainian war on the Prague tango community. For six years, the author has been attending local milongas (social tango dance gatherings), and for the last five years, has developed an ethnography of Prague’s tango life, using soundscape analysis as a heuristic tool, and correlating the collected data with the translocal phenomenon of tango. The specific ways of experiencing wartime conditions and sharing solidarity which have arisen at the Prague milongas in response to the events in Ukraine have been identified. In addition to directly supporting Ukraine through donations, the soundscape of “the effects of war” appears to confront part of the community with the transience of the tango experience. This article examines the impact of the Russo-Ukrainian war onthe Prague tango community.
