    Das Sibirien Helga Novaks

    No full text
This essay examines the work "Legende Transsib", a collection of poems by Helga Novaks published in 1985. Together with the background history of this cycle of poems and the principal trigger for their writing, the emphasis lies especially on the ideas that Helga Novak associated with Siberia. Siberia developed into a ‘canvas’ on which the German author projected both her private and her political dreams and aspirations. Since the Soviet authorities refused to grant her the necessary visa for her long awaited journey, Novak came closer to the country through her writing activity. Hence, it follows that the voyage described in her collection is imaginary. The poet however intermingles imagination with reality, considering that ideas and inventions are blended with historical data and landscape descriptions that she took from textbooks, atlases and brochures

Realism and Reality in Helga Schubert, Helga Königsdorf and Monika Maron

    No full text
This book analyses the neglected short prose of Helga Schubert, Helga Königsdorf and Monika Maron, concentrating on their pre-'Wende' writing. In addition to in-depth analysis of themes, the use and non-use of realism is examined. Each author is preoccupied with a stagnating society, but communicates differently. Schubert is covertly political, limiting herself to snapshots of life in the GDR. Königsdorf diagnosed society's illnesses as a distortion of values linked to industrialization and Maron consciously attacks the regime in her work, exposing the corruption of the State. By focusing on women, this study furthers the establishment of female writers in mainstream academic discourse, and reflects not just the women's political but also their philosophical and social approaches to life. Analysis of their short fiction provides a more complete overview of the authors' development, thereby complementing studies, of their novels

The thesis explores work of a painter Helga Hoskova Weissova with the emphasis on the period between 1950s and 1960s. In the introduction the author clarifies the discourse of the thesis including premises and propositions as well as a brief overview of issues related to the supporting materials and method of evaluation. Furthermore, themes and influences present in Helga Hoskova Weissova's main body of work are discussed. The author considers the experience of Holocaust to be the most significant turning point in her life which also had a transformative affect on her art work. The following chapters present in chronological order the distinct creative periods of Helga Hoskova Weissova's artwork starting with the 1950s up to the end of 1960s. The artist work culminates in the Calvary series in which the motives derived from the experience of Holocaust are noticeable along with the artistic influence of Emile Filla. As a synthesis of deep personal experience combined with Fila's influence, the Cavalry series represent an authentic and original work of art

Helga Krafferová, UNIQA pojišťovna, a.s. Supervisor' s e-mail address: [email protected] Abstract: Technical provisions represent the liability of the insurance company to its clients. In this work we focus on the computational tools of incurred but not reported claims. The most popular calculation method is probably the chain-ladder method which will be in detail analyzed in this thesis. Finally, by applying the theory in this work we will demonstrate the calculation in the own developed software. Keywords: Insurance, IBNR reserve, chain-ladde
