Background: Consumers have the right to consume safe and healthy fresh milk. One of the factors that affect the productivity and quality of milk is the altitude of the location and environmental conditions around the farm. Objective: This research aimed to determine the differences in microbial quality and the somatic cell count (SCC) in milk between farms in the highlands (Cijeruk Farm, Bogor) and lowlands (Pondok Ranggon Farm, East Jakarta). Methods: This study observed the total plate count (TPC), the number of Staphylococcus aureus, and SCC. Microbial testing was carried out using the plate count method and the somatic cells count used the Breed method. The data were analyzed statistically using Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square. Results: The results showed that TPC, S. aureus, and SCC of milk from Pondok Ranggon located in the lowlands were higher than those of milk from Cijeruk located in the highlands. The average of TPC, S. aureus, and SCC in milk from Cijeruk were 1.6×104 ± 1.5×104 CFU/mL, 1.3×103 ± 4.2×103 CFU/mL, and 1,795,000 ± 1,838,791 cells/mL, respectively. The average of TPC, S. aureus, and SCC in milk from the Pondok Ranggon were 3.5×105 ± 1.0×106 CFU/mL, 1.7×105 ± 6.3×104 CFU/mL and 3,032,222 ± 4,348,654 cells/mL, respectively. This research showed that the location of the rearing area has relationship with S. aureus in milk (P<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that microbial status and the somatic cell count are influenced by differences in livestock areas.

The research on blood urea nitrogen constituent of pregnant ewes has been carried out at the Departement of Physiology and Pharmacology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Bogor Agricultural University. Ten ewes with about the same body weight and also about the same times of parturation were used in this experiment. PGF-, injection were used to sinchronize oestrous of those ewes. Blood were collected twice a month from the jugular vein and itsmetabolite constituent were analyzed. using the procedure as described in the kit. This result showed that the concentration of blood urea nitrogen in pregnant ewes was higher than in nonpregnant (

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

RESPON AKTIVITAS TIKUS WISTAR JANTAN AKIBAT KONDISI DIET TINGGI SUKROSA DIUKUR MENGGUNAKAN PEREKAM AKTIVITAS: Activities Response Measurement on Male Wistar Rats With High Sucrose Diet Using Activity monitoring device

Excessive energi consumption play a role in increasing blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia), due to the inability of the hormone insulin to compensate the high blood glucose levels. Blood glucose receptor found in the hypothalamus of VMH (Ventro Medial Hypothalamus) and LH (the Lateral Hypothalamus) is able to detect and change the settings for the feeding activity. The aim of this study was to obtain the relationship between high sucrose feeding on male Wistar rats of behavior and activity. This method uses Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) as an animal model. Sixteen rats were grouped into 4 treatment groups. The first group was given additional feed 20% sucrose, the second group was given additional feed 40% sucrose, a third group was given additional feed 60% sucrose, and the last as a control group. This feed given continuously for 70 days.Observation of activities conducted using Opto-varimex® auto-track system ver.4.31. The results showed an corellation between activity based doses of sucrose

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Poultry especially Japanese quails are susceptible to the environmental threat that induced glucocorticoid hormone secretion. Glucocorticoids stimulate oxidative stress and a decrease in the immune system. The purpose of this research is to study the potential of silkworm extract (Bombyx mori) to overcome oxidative stress and reduced the immune system in quails that were induced with dexamethasone as glucocorticoid. Thirty-two adult quails were used and were given dexamethasone. Those quails were divided into 4 groups, four groups were given 0 mg, 0.16 mg/kg, 0.32 mg/kg, and 0.64 mg/kg of silkworm extract for each quail. The parameters that were observed are total leucocyte count, differential leucocyte count, and heterophil/lymphocyte ratio. The results are not significant compared to the groups that were not given any supplements. This study shows that the administration of silkworm extract is not effective for recovery purposes. Keywords: antioxidant, quail, Bombyx mori, dexamethason

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
