    Hyperauthorship in Mikhail Bakhtin: The Primary Author and Conceptual Personae

    This article explores the phemenon of hyperauthorship in intellectual writing: a primary author (hyperauthor) creates a number of secondary authors (hypoauthors), and develops possible conceptual systems on their behalf. The case under consideration is Mikhail Bakhtin and his complex relationship with his friends Pavel Medvedev and Valentin Voloshinov, members of the so called "Bakhtin's circle" (in the 1920s) who are credited with authorship of several books which may have been actually written by Bakhtin himself. Still unclear from biographical and historical perspectives, this problem of authentic attribution of Medvedev's and Voloshinov's texts can be clarified in the theoretical framework of "hyperauthorship" and "possibilistic thinking." This article applies Bakhtin's own theory of the "primary author immersed in silence," as well as Deleuze and Guattari's notion of "conceptual personae," to explain this case of "shared," or "transferred" authorship. The figures of Voloshinov and Medvedev, though historically real, may be viewed as Bakhtin's projections of "ideal," or "utopian" Marxism in linguistics and literary theory

    What are the implications of Curriculum Learning strategy on IRL methods?: Investigating Inverse Reinforcement Learning from Human Behavior

    Inverse Reinforcement Learning (IRL) is a subfield of Reinforcement Learning (RL) that focuses on recovering the reward function using expert demonstrations. In the field of IRL, Adversarial IRL (AIRL) is a promising algorithm that is postulated to recover non-linear rewards in environments with unknown dynamics. This study investigates the potential benefits of applying the Curriculum Learning (CL) strategy to the AIRL algorithm. For our experiments, we use a randomized partially observable Markov decision process in the form of a grid-world-like environment. Using only expert demonstrations obtained with an RL algorithm under the true reward function, we train AIRL in a variety of configurations and identify an effective curriculum. Our results show, that a well-constructed curriculum can enhance the performance of AIRL twofold in both key aspects: the speed of convergence and the efficiency of using expert demonstrations. We thus conclude that CL can be a useful addition to an AIRL-based solution.     Practical and efficient incremental adaptive routing for HyperX networks

    In efforts to increase performance and reduce cost, modern low-diameter networks are designed for average case traffic and rely on non-minimal adaptive routing for network load-balancing when adversarial traffic patterns are encountered. Source adaptive routing is the predominant method for adaptive routing even though it presents many deficiencies related to making global decisions based solely on local information. In contrast, incremental adaptive routing, which performs an adaptive decision at every hop, is able to increase throughput and reduce latency by overcoming the deficiencies of source adaptive routing. We present two incremental adaptive routing algorithms for HyperX which are the first to be fully implementable in modern high-radix router architectures and interconnection network protocols. Using cycle accurate simulations of a 4,096 node network, our evaluation shows these algorithms are able to exceed the performance of prior work by as much as 4x with synthetic traffic and 25% with 27-point stencil traffic

    Super-resolution reconstruction from truncated Fourier transform

    International audienceWe present recent theoretical and numerical results on recovering a compactly supported function v on R^d, d ≥ 1, from its Fourier transform Fv given within the ball B_r. We proceed from known results on the prolate spheroidal wave functions and on the Radon transform. The most interesting point of our numerical examples consists in super-resolution, that is, in recovering details beyond the diffraction limit, that is, details of size less than pi/r, where r is the radius of the ball mentioned above.This short review is based on the works Isaev, Novikov (2022 J.     SuperSim: Extensible Flit-Level Simulation of Large-Scale Interconnection Networks

    The interconnection networks of modern large-scale computing systems are quickly increasing in size and complexity to keep up with the demand for computing capability. These systems rely heavily on complex router microarchitectures and intelligent adaptive routing algorithms structured for cost-optimized low-diameter networks. These technologies need to be properly modeled and evaluated during design space exploration and for performance characterization of the system. We present SuperSim, an open-source flit-level interconnection network simulator that enables focused evaluation of issues related to designing and deploying large-scale high-performance networks. SuperSim is a programmer-centric simulation framework explicitly designed to be flexibly extended and is supported by a number of tools making it easy to use and allowing users to model systems quickly. In this work we show the results for simulation case studies demonstrating the power of SuperSim to uncover otherwise overlooked details in large-scale interconnection networks

    Complex martingales and asymptotic enumeration

    Many enumeration problems in combinatorics, including such fundamental questions as the number of regular graphs, can be expressed as high-dimensional complex integrals. Motivated by the need for a systematic study of the asymptotic behavior of such integrals, we establish explicit bounds on the exponentials of complex martingales. Those bounds applied to the case of truncated normal distributions are precise enough to include and extend many enumerative results of Barvinok, Canfield, Gao, Greenhill, Hartigan, Isaev, McKay, Wang, Wormald, and others. Our method applies to sums as well as integrals. As a first illustration of the power of our theory, we considerably strengthen existing results on the relationship between random graphs or bipartite graphs with specified degrees and the so-called β-model of random graphs with independent edges, which is equivalent to the Rasch model in the bipartite case.Australian Reaserch Council (to M.I. andB.D.M.

    To Act and Learn: A Bakhtinian Exploration of Action Learning

    This paper considers the work of the Russian social philosopher and cultural theorist, Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin as a source of understanding for those involved in action learning. Drawing upon data gathered over two years during the evaluation of 20 action learning sets in the north of England, we will seek to work with the ideas of Bakhtin to consider their value for those involved in action learning. We consider key Bakhtin features such as Making Meaning, Participative Thinking, Theoreticism and Presence, Others and Outsideness, Voices and Carnival to highlight how Bakhtin's can enhance our understanding of the nature of action and learning
