Lung disease associated with periventricular nodular heterotopia and an FLNA mutation
X-linked periventricular nodular heterotopia (PH) is a neuronal migration disorder caused by mutations in the gene encoding filamin A (FLNA). High phenotypic diversity, ranging from PH to otopalatodigital syndrome and frontometaphyseal dysplasia has been described in association with FLNA mutations. Extra-neurological features including cardiovascular abnormalities, coagulopathy, skeletal dysplasia and joint hypermobility have sometimes been described in patients with PH. Respiratory manifestations have not been associated with FLNA disorders with the exception of tracheal stenosis and pulmonary hypoplasia associated with frontometaphyseal dysplasia and Melnick-Needles syndrome. Here, we report on a male patient aged 6 years presenting with a mosaic nonsense mutation c.994delG within the FLNA gene, PH and severe congenital lung disease comprising bilateral atelectasis, lung cysts, tracheobronchomalacia, pulmonary arterial hypertension and long-term oxygen dependence; histology of resected lung showed panpulmonary emphysema with marked reduction of bronchial cartilage. Rare male patients with PH and FLNA mutations have already been reported, usually with early lethality. These observations suggest the possibility of a link between FLNA mutations and congenital lung disease. A prospective study of patients with PH and FLNA mutations would be helpful in order to test this hypothesis.Alice Masurel-Paulet, Eric Haan, Elizabeth M. Le Prytanée de Délos
Contrary to the opinion of M. Lauter, in « Die Architektur des Hellenismus » 1986, a new reconstruction of the Prytaeum is suggested, including a new interpretation of various rooms. In particular a storey for the entrance hall is refuted. The author expresses his doubts on the monument's construction date : probably the middle of the IV century, without specifically stating « part Athenian » or « part Delian ».Contre M. Lauter, Die Architektur des Hellenismus 1986, est proposée une nouvelle restitution du Prytanée, accompagnée d'une nouvelle affectation des diverses pièces.
The author gives complements and corrections, chiefly on social and economic aspects, to her book Delos Indépendante, published in 1984. This study is based on the observations of several scholars, including J. Tréheux, M. Brunet, G. Reger and R. Etienne, and on the author's finds.L'auteur signale des compléments et corrections, surtout sur les faits de société et les aspects économiques, à son livre Délos Indépendante, paru en 1984. Cette mise au point s'appuie sur les observations de plusieurs savants, notamment J. Tréheux, M. Brunet, G. Reger et R. Etienne, ainsi que sur les recherches de l'auteur.Vial Claude. Raman microspectroscopy interrogating 19th and 20th century painted trades union banners
We have previously developed protocols for the application of Raman microspectroscopy to studies on painted textiles. We have further assessed the value of such microanalyses in the identification of both inorganic and organic constituents, including original components and consolidants used in conservation treatments. This paper presents the results of a recent study on a number of 19th- and 20th-century trades union banners directed at collating a spectral database of inorganic pigments used in the illustrations and at probing the preparative process prior to painting. Such information will contribute to an understanding of the manufacture of such banners and their current condition, leading to the development of optimum conservation procedures. While Raman spectroscopy has the potential to be used in situ and, with the appropriate protocol, is non-destructive, nonetheless we have found that the analysis of resin-embedded cross-sections is to be preferred with microtoming providing the cleanest sample surface. The optimum methodology for acquiring good quality Raman spectra is described including operation in the confocal mode, with consideration of fluorescence, interference from resin, laser-induced photochemistry, and so on

Whole-exome sequencing confirms implication of VPS13D as a potential cause of progressive spastic ataxia
International audienceBackground: VPS13D is a large ubiquitin-binding protein playing an essential role in mitophagy by regulating mitochondrial fission. Recently, VPS13D biallelic pathogenic variants have been reported in patients displaying variable neurological phenotypes, with an autosomic recessive inheritance. The objectives of the study were to determine the genetic etiology of a patient with early onset sporadic progressive spastic ataxia, and to investigate the pathogenicity of VPS13D variants through functional studies on patient's skin fibroblasts. Case presentation: We report the case of a 51-year-old patient with spastic ataxia, with an acute onset of the disease at age 7. Walking difficulties slowly worsened over time, with the use of a wheelchair since age 26. We have used trio-based whole-exome sequencing (WES) to identify genes associated with spastic ataxia. The impact of the identified variants on mitochondrial function was assessed in patient's fibroblasts by imaging mitochondrial network and measuring level of individual OXPHOS complex subunits. Compound heterozygous variants were identified in VPS13D: c.946C > T, p.Arg316* and c.12416C > T, p.(Ala4139Val). Primary fibroblasts obtained from this patient revealed an altered mitochondrial morphology, and a decrease in levels of proteins from complex I, III and IV. Conclusions: Our findings confirmed implication of VPS13D in spastic ataxia and provided further support for mitochondrial defects in patient's skin fibroblasts with VPS13D variants. This report of long-term follow up showed a slowly progressive course of the spastic paraplegia with cerebellar features. Furthermore, the performed functional studies could be used as biomarker helping diagnosis of VPS13D-related neurological disorders when molecular results are uneasy to interpret
Οι επωνυμοι and αι επωνυμοι αρχαι in the cities of hellenistic and roman Asia Minor
The eponymity in Greek cities of Asia Minor is here discussed as a phenomenon closely connected with the administrative systems of these cities. The author argues that genuine reasons for the choice of this or that system of dating particular events and documents by the Greek cities of Asia Minor depended on the level of administration to which this event or document was relevant. The epony m was to be the official who corresponded to this level of administration ; if the document or event related to more than one level of the inner-city administration, more than one eponym was used to date this document or event. Dmitriev Sviatoslav.
