Revolutionizing the PhD Process: a critical examination and innovative reforms
A bookRevolutionizing the PhD Process: A Critical Examination and Innovative Reforms is a provocative and deeply personal book that fearlessly challenges the entrenched biases, stigma, and barriers that have long plagued the pursuit of a doctoral degree. With unflinching honesty, Isaac Christopher Lubogo exposes the systemic flaws that perpetuate inequalities, stifle creativity, and prioritize conformity over character. This seminal work deconstructs the cult of publication and citation metrics, decolonizes knowledge production, and disrupts dominant epistemologies. Lubogo presents alternative metrics for evaluating research quality and impact, innovative pedagogies for studentcentered learning, and explores alternative degree pathways and credentialing systems. By sharing his personal struggles and triumphs, Lubogo humanizes the PhD journey, revealing the emotional labor and mental health costs that accompany this esteemed academic pursuit. This book is a rallying cry for reform, urging academics, administrators, and policymakers to join forces in revolutionizing the PhD process, making it more inclusive, supportive, and impactful for all
The pulse of justice: medical law in Uganda
A bookIn the intricate dance between healthcare and the law, "The Pulse of Justice: Medical Law in Uganda" stands as a beacon of clarity and insight. Authored by the esteemed Isaac Christopher Lubogo, this seminal work delves into the heart of the legal frameworks that govern medical practice in Uganda, illuminating the path for practitioners, policymakers, and patients alike. With unparalleled expertise and a profound understanding of both legal and medical landscapes, Lubogo meticulously unpacks the complex interplay of laws, regulations, and ethical principles that shape healthcare in Uganda. This book is not just a guide; it is a comprehensive exploration of the foundational elements that underpin medical law, from patient rights and professional ethics to the nuances of medical negligence and the critical role of regulatory bodies
Yowerinomics, Tibuhaburwarism, and Museneninomical dispensation: Kaguta’s astute Mastery of Fundamental Ugandanised Change
The right of Isaac Christopher Lubogo to be identified as the author of this book has been asserted by them in accordance with the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act, 2006.In the Majestic chronicle of human history leadership and societal evolution, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's enduring role in Uganda beckons profound philosophical exploration. This abstract introduces a contemplative journey encapsulated by the title "Yowerinomics, Tibuhaburwarisim, and Museveninomical Dispensation: Kaguta's Astute Mastery of Fundamental Ugandanised Change." Within this discourse, the pursuit of transformation emerges as a foundational theme, transcending mere socio-economic shifts to probe the very essence of human aspiration. "Yowerinomics" serves as the guiding philosophy that reframes the relationship between governance and prosperity, inviting us to reconsider the dynamics of empowerment. "Tibuhaburwarisim" is unveiled as a resilient ethic—both an individual disposition and a collective force—that speaks to the profound tenacity innate to human spirit. Museveni's Uganda embodies this resilience, sparking reflections on leadership's interplay with the human drive to overcome adversity. "Museveninomical Dispensation" embodies an era where leadership and culture intermingle, reshaping values and societal identity. Through this lens, we dissect the profound influence leaders wield in shaping ethical landscapes and cultural tapestries. The dialectics of change are central to this inquiry—examining the ceaseless interplay between aspirations and constraints, progress and resistance. In Museveni's journey, we unearth the intricate negotiations of leadership amid this dialectical landscape. Ultimately, this philosophical exploration extends beyond Uganda's borders, summoning us to ponder the quintessence of leadership and the timeless yearning for a brighter future—an aspiration that reverberates in the footsteps of leaders who endeavor to orchestrate fundamental change
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Law of forensics : a proof beyond the shadow of doubt
The copyright to this book belongs to Isaac Christopher Lubogo.Everything is a self-portrait, a diary, your whole drug history’s in a strand of your hair. Your fingernails the forensic details the lining of your stomach is a document. The calluses on your hand tell all your secrets. Your teeth give you away. Your accent, the wrinkles around your mouth and eyes, everything you do shows your hand. (Chuck Palahniuk) This book gives an understanding of the application of forensic sciences to the law. It covers the crime scene investigation process, and provides an overview of the various kinds of forensic evidence that may be collected and presented in court. Points out the identification, documentation and collection of physical evidence, including fingerprints, shoe impressions, hair fibers, firearms evidence and questioned documents, It considers biological evidence, including DNA, and tries to analayze the scientific unimpeachablity of DNA, blood spatter and other fluids, forensic anthropology and odontology. Finally, the book engages fire investigation and forensic accounting. It is designed to provide a foundation in the field of criminalistics to who are interested in the use of science and law to solve crime, and considers the impact of television and other media on the field of Forensic Science and the courtroom
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
