Essays on financial econometrics:
This dissertation comprises of three essays in financial econometrics. The first essay discusses the efficacy of alternative simulation models of the short term interest rate. This is done by constructing consistent specification tests that allow us to carry out a "horse-race" comparing various one, two, and three factor models (possiblely with jumps), across multiple historical sample periods. We find that the choice of model for simulating the future distribution of short rates is highly sample dependent, and structural breaks appear to be an important component to be considered.
The second essay presents a model that focuses on exploring the profitability of portfolio-based trading strategies that variously combine downside risk, momentum, and mean reversion by carrying out a series of pseudo real-time trading experiments using different combination trading strategies. We find, contrary to the existing literature, that momentum effects are sensitive to value and size factors. In particular, downside risk plays an important role when portfolios are sorted based on size and value.
The third essay re-examines the empirical linkage between macroeconomic variables and financial markets. Our evaluation focuses on the use of a large variety of state-of-the-art ex-ante predictive accuracy tests as well as more standard in-sample regression diagnostics. We observe substantive shifts in the dynamics of macroeconomic factor models, which have noteworthy effects on the predictive content of the factors when used to predict returns.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 84-88)by Lili Ca
To the Theatre!
The rubric Texts around Theatre features historical and contemporary cross-cultural and culture-specific perspectives on theatre – unexpectedly funky, unusually enthralling, disturbingly fascinating. https://www.aviva-verlag.de/autor-innen-co/lili-gr%C3%BCn/ Young Loni Holl, the protagonist in Lili Grün’s autobiographical novel, desires to become an actress. Only the theatre gives Loni the feeling of escape from her boring day to day life. She pursues her goal with determination, and a theatre engagement in the province seems to be the long-awaited chance for her debut. She straddles rehearsals, performances and private life; learning her lines, paying her rent, and allaying her hunger. The following excerpt from Grün’s novel , first published in 1935, traces Loni’s first steps on the stage that means the world to her. Apart from Zum Theater, Lili Grün also wrote the cabaret novel Herz über Bord (now in a new edition as Alles ist Jazz) in 1993. Mädchenhimmel, a collection of poems and stories was first published in 2014. Her novel Junge Bürokraft übernimmt auch andere Arbeit ..., first published 1936/37 in the newspaper “Der Wiener Tag”, was issued in book format in 2016 (all edited by Anke Heimberg). As a Jewish author, Lili Grün was not allowed to publish after 1938. In 1942, she ..
For Your Enrichment: Ethical Issues in Reference: An In-Depth View from the Librarians’ Perspective
It is always good to reflect occasionally on professional ethics and the implications of those ethics in library practice. In this paper, based on a presentation given by the author at the 2014 IFLA satellite meeting “Ethical Dilemmas in the Information Society: How Codes of Ethics Help to Find Ethical Solutions,” August 14–15, 2014, Lili Luo examines some ethical issues addressed in contemporary reference work and reports on the results of a survey of reference librarians.—Edito
The present thesis comprises the children’s book Nú býr Lili á Íslandi and the academic report alongside. The main goal of the project was to develop a children’s book with a focus on plurilingual children and their parents. The book was created aiming to cover three main purposes: i) to give insight into Iceland culture, ii) to train Icelandic vocabulary and iii) to provide further information connected to the previous two aspects. The book is divided into two sections: the story about Lili and chapters with information and suggestions for parents. Furthermore, the book has been written in a simple Icelandic language in order to maximize its reachability among children and parents.
The first part of the book tells the story of a six years old girl called Lili. Lili, who is half Icelandic and half South African, has lived in Africa all her life and has just moved to Iceland with her parents. The story is a composition of chapters that introduce Lili to different aspects of Icelandic culture and how daily life of children in Iceland works: some examples are when Lili goes to the swimming pool, visits her Icelandic grandparents or experiences snow for the first time. The story includes illustrations made by artist Hannah McDonald, drawn in close collaboration with the author of the book during the creative process. The second part of the book consists of chapters containing information and suggestions about the different topics covered in the story. They expand the chapters of the story by explaining some of the cultural events as well as providing ideas for parents such as cooking Icelandic meat soup according to a given recipe.
The present academic report first formulates the research questions that the project attempts to answer: How is the creative process of the children´s book Nú býr Lili á Íslandi carried out? In which way can the book Nú býr Lili á Íslandi give plurilingual children and their parents information about Icelandic culture, as well as train vocabulary? To answer these questions, the report discusses different theories and research connected to children and plurilingualism, presenting the vocabulary training and reading techniques that the writing of Nú býr Lili á Íslandi is built upon. The report then focuses on the creation of Nú býr Lili á Íslandi, its content and the collaboration process between the author and the illustrator

Foreign Direct Investment and Value Added in Indonesia
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has increased in importance over the last decades, globally as well as in Indonesia. We examine how such inflows of FDI affects value added in Indonesia. The effect is positive: foreign firms generate relatively high levels of value added and they also seem to have a positive impact on value added in local firms. Moreover, FDI contribute to a structural change of the economy towards more high-value added activities. High value added could lead to increased investments and higher tax revenues for the government. High value added could also benefit labor through higher wages, an effect that is empirically confirmed in Indonesia
The Indonesian Economy
Against the backdrop of growing anti-globalisation sentiments and increasing fragmentation of the production process across countries, this book addresses how the Indonesian economy should respond and how Indonesia should shape its trade and industrial policies in this new world trade environment. The book introduces evaluation not on tariffs but on new trade instruments such as non-tariff measures (SPS, TBT, export measures and beyond border measures), and looks at industrial policies from a broader perspective such as investment, accessing inputs, labour, services, research and innovation policies. “The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/10.4324/9781315161976, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.
