    Il paper presenta i risultati di una ricerca finanziata dalla Regione Veneto relativa allo studio di unità abitative provvisorie innovative in legno per il ricovero e la sistemazione di persone anziane nel caso di riqualificazione funzionale di edi!ci adibiti a case di riposo. Il progetto prende origine dalla constatazione che anche gli edifici esistenti adibiti a case di riposo possono spesso necessitare di riqualificazione: in tale scenario, un’unità abitativa provvisoria con avanzate caratteristiche di comfort e di risparmio energetico potrà quindi costituire una soluzione ottimale per la tutela delle persone anziane e permettere, allo stesso tempo, di sperimentare nuovi modelli nell’abitare e assumere eventualmente carattere di alloggio permanente. The paper presents the results of a research funded by the Veneto Region concerning the study of innovative temporary wooden housing units for the hospitalisation and accommodation of elderly people in the case of functional requalification of buildings used as care homes. The project originates from the observation that existing buildings used as care homes may often need to be redeveloped. In this scenario, a temporary housing unit with advanced comfort and energy saving features may, therefore, constitute an optimal solution for the protection of elderly people and, at the same time, to experiment with new models of living, besides possibly adapting them for permanent accommodation

    Questo contributo illustra i risultati della ricerca “Thermo-Electric Photovoltaic Panel” condotta dall’Università Iuav di Venezia in collaborazione con quattro aziende. La ricerca ha preso in esame un nuovo dispositivo che combina le proprietà fotoelettriche dei pannelli fotovoltaici con quelle delle celle termoelettriche per aumentare l’efficienza della produzione di energia. Questa tecnologia è in grado di sfruttare lo scambio termico per produrre energia in assenza di radiazione solare e rappresenta un significativo miglioramento della tecnologia dei pannelli fotovoltaici e delle celle termoelettriche. La ricerca ha inoltre verificato la fattibilità della tecnologia e individuato proposte per il suo utilizzo negli involucri architettonici e nel settore dei trasporti. This paper presents the results of the “Thermo-Electric Photovoltaic Panel” research conducted by Università Iuav di Venezia in partnership with four companies. The research examined a new device that combines the photoelectric properties of photovoltaic panels with those of thermoelectric cells to increase the efficiency of energy production. This technology exploits heat exchange to produce energy in the absence of solar radiation, and marks a significant improvement in photovoltaic panel and thermoelectric cell technology. The research also verified the feasibility of the technology, and identified proposals for its use in architectural envelopes and in the transport sector

    Circularity Indicators as a Design Tool for Design and Construction Strategies in Architecture

    This study addresses the challenges and barriers associated with the implementation of circular economy principles in architectural design and construction practices. It highlights the fragmented knowledge and lack of a unified approach to circular design as a major obstacle hindering the adoption of circularity. The existing frameworks for assessing circularity, such as the Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) protocol and the Level(s) assessment protocol, are applied to two projects with a high degree of deconstruction to understand their applicability in the architectural design process and identify their limitations. The study emphasises the significance of considering structural connectivity and circularity strategies during the concept-design stage, advocating for the incorporation of circularity at various scales beyond the microscale of materials. Furthermore, it emphasises the need for early implementation of Design for Disassembly (DfD) strategies on circularity scoring to enable meaningful comparisons of alternative designs using circularity metrics. The findings reveal the variability of circularity indicators based on the hierarchy of disassembly and highlights an early-stage design approach to deconstruction strategies to achieve circularity in architectural design. Overall, this study upscales the significance of a comprehensive and integrated approach to circularity in architectural design practices

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
