Rozdział II stanowi próbę zarysowania oryginalnej metodyki badań osadniczych oraz jej praktycznej aplikacji do studiów nad neolitem i wczesną epoką brązu omawianego obszaru. Ostatni VI rozdział jest podsumowaniem wcześniejszych, stanowi zarys przemian kulturowych, jakie zaszły w międzyrzeczu środkowej Noteci dolnej Wełny pomiędzy początkiem neolitu a końcem II okresu epoki brązu, czyli schyłkiem V a połową II tysiąclecia p.n.e. The dissertation consists of 6 main chapters, as well as a Catalog and Maps attached on a digital medium. Chapter I is devoted to the description of the natural environment of the interfluvial area of the middle Noteć and lower Wełna. Chapter II is an attempt to outline the original methodology of settlement research and its practical application to studies of the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age of the discussed area. Chapter III presents typological and chronological analyzes of the source material used in the work. Chapter IV is devoted to detailed settlement studies conducted within 5 trial areas: Biskupin, Kcynia, Sipiory, Budzyń and Mirkowice. Chapter V presents model attempts to show the social and settlement structures of four archaeological cultures: Brześć Kujawski culture, Funnel Beaker culture, Globular Amphora culture and Iwno culture, which are most clearly represented in the source material in the discussed area. They were shown against a broader, Greater Poland-Kujawy comparative background. The last, sixth chapter is a summary of the previous ones, and is an outline of the cultural changes that took place in the interfluvial area of the middle Noteć and lower Wełna between the beginning of the Neolithic and the end of the 2nd period of the Bronze Age, i.e. the end of the 5th and the middle of the 2nd millennium BC

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE STRONGHOLDS OF THE PONTIC FOREST STEPPE ZONE IN THE EARLY IRON AGE

The problem of the „giants’ strongholds” (of sizes often over 50 ha) situated in the early Iron Age in the Ukrainian forest steppe zone is the wealthy Russian and Ukrainian literature. Hitherto, many concepts explaining this phenomenon pursuant to politics (as a response to military threat) as well as to the economy (as a result of social organisation of local tribes) have been suggested. The main source of this discussion comes from the activities of a Polish-Ukrainian research expedition, – „Fortresses of Podolia”. It aims were to recognize and describe the history of strongholds forming the western Podolian settlement concentrating within the Ukrainian forest steppe. This programme is a derivate of the cooperation between the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Institute of Prehistory of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznañ2. Within the programme, researches of a Severinovka stronghold (Winnica district) were conducted in seasons 2009–2011 as a prologue of the project, as well as surface prospections in the area of western Podolia – mainly in the Winnica district. When interpreting the research results one has to examine the problems of strongholds of the „Scythian period”. In this article, which is an introduction to the discussion, the author would like to outline which processes may have led to fortifying the defensive settlements

Ceramic materials as cul-tural elements on the Polish Lowland: Early Iron Age Pontic forest steppe 650–520/470 BC

This publication discusses issues concerning the prehistoric material culture of Polish lands and the Polish Ukrainian borderland (geographic Polish Lowland) at the beginning of the Iron Age, 700–600 BC. On the basis of numerous sources arising from prehistoric settlements this author has attempted to reconstruct autochthon culture from this period: lifestyle, possible contact with other communities and likely traces of such that lend themselves to archaeological documentation. Research has subsequently shown that a network of contacts joined the Polish Lowland at that time with the Pontic forest steppe. These processes can be linked to the communities of the Lusation culture and neighbouring communities of the Scythian epoch. A detailed research of artefacts, in the main ceramic ware, allows one to advance the thesis that the respective models of material culture were very similar and that their gradual dissemination occurred in the Hallstatt D period in an east-west direction

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

The Role of Baltic-Black Sea Routes in the Development of Lusatian Culture Societies in the Decline Bronze and Early Iron

As regards the identification of the early forms of Europe's long-distance routes, the area lying between the Baltic and Black seas can be said to be one of relative neglect. Specifically, little research has been devoted to the development stages of the area's socio-cultural map, i.e. to neighbourly forays, itineraries, routes (of varied continuity, range and transport technique), stable segments of roads leading to water crossings, networks of fords and the communication channels running along watersheds. The foremost issue, at present one of great difficulty with respect to a study embracing the whole region in question, is the cultural context of these innovations and the related mechanisms that saw their creation in regard to the socio-economic basis and ritual-epistemological nature of ancient peoples in these regions. The study by Marija Gimbutas [Gimbutas 1965] of 'amber routes', joining the west and east of Europe, may be considered the first attempt to tackle the issue of the region's early communication channels and was accordingly referred to in the analyses of the distribution of stone 'fluted maces', regarded as hypothetical markers of Baltic-Pontic routes [Kośko 2001; 2002]. Generally, this conceptual leaven can be said to have provided broader intellectual stimuli for the international academic community of 'Archaeology Bimaris'. The turning point in the nascent study of ancient routes has been thus given a clear framework: an inter-university and interdisciplinary discussion (see the Poznań-Obrzycko symposium Routes Between the Seas: Baltic-Bug-Boh (Southern Bug)-Pont held in October 2008). The papers included in this volume are a partial record of the discussion. The intentional selectiveness here is seen therefore in the conscious limitation of the scope of papers ('piecemeal' treatment of linguistic or ethnological and anthropological analyses). Moreover, there is a special focus on one of the inter-regional routes, namely the Baltic-Bug-Boh (Southern Bug)-Pont, or more specifically, its early evidence (generally speaking, prior to - widely known to the academia - its use in the times of Goth migrations)
