    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Bagi menaikkan kompetensi sesebuah Universiti, pihak universiti tidak boleh mengehadkan punca ilmu hanya daripada buku-buku pelajaran sahaja, malahan perlu melibatkan pihak-pihak luar melalui jaringan yang strategik. Kepentingan jaringan-jaringan luar seperti bersama industri, masyarakat, dan alumni kepada universiti adalah sangat besar dan memberi impak menyeluruh kepada pembangunan institusi pendidikan tinggi dari pelbagai aspek. Di Universiti Teknologi MARA, di bawah naungan Naib Cancelor, Timbalan Naib Cancelor Jaringan Industri, Masyarakat, dan Alumni (ICAN) bertanggungjawab dalam mengelola hubungan jaringan bersama pihak luar. Terdapat tiga jaringan yang dititikberatkan iaitu jaringan bersama industri, bersama masyarakat, dan juga bersama alumni UiTM yang dipercayai mampu menaikkan kompetensi UiTM dalam segala aspek terutama kepada pencapaian para pelajar. Di UiTM Kampus Cawangan Negeri Sembilan (UiTMCNS), diterajui oleh Timbalan Rektor Penyelidikan, Jaringan Industri, Masyarakat, dan Alumni (PJIMA) dan seterusnya digalas oleh Koordinator ICAN.     Tanggal 18 Mac 2020, merupakan tarikh keramat yang akan tersemat di dalam ingatan semua rakyat Malaysia. Tarikh ini merupakan hari pertama Malaysia menguatkuasakan pelaksanaan kawalan pergerakan (PKP1.0) disebabkan penularan wabak COVID-19. Disebabkan ini, institusi-institusi pendidikan Malaysia telah terpaksa untuk keluar dari zon selesa di mana sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran (P&P) secara bersemuka di dalam bilik-bilik kuliah dan kelas tidak lagi dapat dijalankan. Semenjak PKP dilaksanakan, aktiviti P&P telah mengalami evolusi yang ekstrim iaitu segala aktiviti dijalankan secara atas talian. Perkara ini merupakan suatu yang amat mencabar bukan sahaja untuk para pendidik, juga untuk para pelajar di setiap peringkat pendidikan. Ini kerana kaedah atas talian ini belum pernah digunapakai secara menyeluruh di dalam setiap sistem dan ini merupakan peluang keemasan untuk menambahbaik sistem pendidikan Malaysia sejajar dengan arus permodenan dunia

    A biosensor is an analytical device, applied for the detection of a target analyte of interest. Some people may think that they never encountered a biosensor before in their lives. One of the most common biosensors that are being used in our daily life is the glucose biosensor. The glucose strip is actually a biosensor and the device's component that shows the glucose reading is the data processor. A pregnancy test stick is another commonly used biosensor that involves the detection of pregnancy hormones. Recently, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemics, the whole wide world now knows of the antigen test kit; which is also, you guessed it, a biosensor! There are numerous types of biosensors currently developed for countless applications. However, the components will always be comprised of bioreceptor, transducer, and data processor, as shown in Figure 2. The target analyte can be of various components which include nucleic acids, whole cells, body tissues, peptides, proteins, enzymes, antibodies, microorganisms, and even chemical compounds (Askim and Suslick, 2017).     Biosensor is a device that applies biological components to detect target substances involving electrochemistry. In this research, DNA-based biosensor was developed to sensitively detect Ganoderma boninense (GB) which is a fungus that causes basal stem rot to oil palm trees. The DNA-based biosensor applies indium-tin-oxide (ITO) coated glass electrode fabricated with materials that enhances the electrochemical properties and the sensitivity of the sensor. The electroconductive reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was used to fabricate ITO electrode as it promotes electroconductivity which allows the sensor to be more sensitive. Another material used, thionine, has a large amount of amino groups to promote immobilization of DNA strands onto the electrode. The composition of thionine with 0.1 mg/mL rGO was successfully determined to induce highest stability to rGO molecules when operating with water-based solvents as thionine makes it more hydrophilic

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
