This paper applies trauma theory to Tears of the Desert, an autobiography written by the Sudanese author Halima Bashir. It examines the traumatic experience of the protagonist Halima Bashir who has been raped during Darfur conflict. In applying the aforementioned theory, this paper shows how the traumatic memory of Halima stands as a collective memory for the oppressed Sudanese in Darfur. Halima’s work, although focusing on the rape experience of an individual, implies a political message that many Sudanese were subjected to physical and psychological traumas as they were bearing witness to the conflict in Darfur

Abstract Abstract __________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction: Healthcare facilities often face overcrowding and extended waiting times in emergency rooms (ERs). This leads to higher patient morbidity and mortality rates and reduces patient satisfaction. Managing patient flow between the ER and the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital (IBHOH) is crucial to addressing these issues. The study analyzes the relationship between ER visits and OPD workflow from January to June 2024. Seasonal fluctuations, infectious disease outbreaks, and delays in OPD appointments are also considered. Aim: This study explores the connection between ER visits, OPD referrals, and OPD patient volumes at IBHOH over the first half of 2024. The goal is to find trends and correlations and to understand how these factors affect hospital operations. Understanding these trends is crucial for efficiently allocating resources, improving patient flow, and enhancing the quality of care at the hospital. Methodology: The study retrospectively reviews hospital records from January to June 2024. Data is segmented by month and validated against multiple sources to ensure accuracy. The study used SPSS and Python to perform statistical analysis. The trends and correlations are visualized through graphs and charts. To ensure patient confidentiality, the study will adhere to ethical guidelines using aggregated data without personal identifiers. Conclusion: The study reveals a strong link between ER visits, OPD referrals, and OPD patient volume, suggesting strategic improvements that can manage ER congestion and improve patient care and flow. To maintain high-quality patient care and boost operational efficiency, standardizing referral protocols, adjusting staffing based on real-time data, and implementing continuous monitoring systems are recommended

The Earnings figure is one of the most important economic variables in the financial statement that measures the financial position and performance of an entity. However the earnings reported may not really reflect the true performance of a company due to management manipulation as a result measures are raised to curb this situation among which is ownership structure (distribution of company ownership among its shareholders). The main objective of this study is to determine the effect of ownership structure on earnings quality of listed insurance companies in Nigeria. The study formulates three hypotheses and applied Generalised Least Squared (GLS) Techniques to analyse the relationship between dependent variable earnings quality and the independent variable, institutional ownership, managerial ownership and ownership concentration of the sampled Insurance Companies. Data were extracted from the annual reports and accounts of the Insurance Companies over the period 2012 to 2021. The data analysis technique was regression using STATA version 14. The study found that: Institutional ownership negatively influences earnings quality, Managerial ownership negatively influences earnings quality and ownership concentration negatively impacts on earnings quality but not significant. The study recommends that Nigerian Insurance companies should reduce the shareholding of their managers, motivates their institutional investors to become long term institutional investors and reduces the shareholding of their major investors
