Electrophysiology of isolated mammalian spinal cord
Previous studies showed that the isolated hemisected mammalian spinal cord survived well in vitro; hence the physiological and pharmacological properties could be investigated. This work describes the development and use of an in vitro whole spinal cord - peripheral nerve preparation to investigate the ipsilateral and contralateral reflexes evoked in the flexor (tibial) and extensor (femoral) nerve trunks of the thigh of the golden hamster. The survival of an isolated peripheral nerve (sural) and of the dorsal root - ventral root reflexes (DR - VRR) in the hemisected spinal cord preparation were investigated. Spontaneous activity could be recorded from the dorsal and ventral roots. The activity in the dorsal roots was inhibited by magnesium (2.0 mM) and that in the ventral roots was inhibited by magnesium (0.1 mM). The higher sensitivity of the ventral root activity to magnesium indicates that NMDA receptors may be involved in this activity. Stimulation of the lumbar dorsal roots evoked a fast short latency synchronous (monosynaptic) reflex response and/or later more diffuse asynchronous (polysynaptic) responses in the ipsilateral tibial and femoral nerves. The ipsilateral tibial response had a mean delay of 15.9 ± 1.2 msec (Mean ± S.E., n. = 21) and the ipsilateral femoral response had a mean delay of 14.4 ± 0.5 msec (n. = 14). The responses evoked in the contralateral tibial and femoral nerves following stimulation of the lumbar dorsal roots were polysynaptic. The mean delay of the responses in the contralateral tibial nerve was 28.3 ± 2.3 msec (n. = 13) and the mean delay of the responses in the contralateral femoral nerve was 25.5 ± 7.7 msec (n. = 3). Stimulation of the tibial nerve trunk instead of the dorsal roots evoked responses in the contralateral tibial nerve with a mean delay of 26.6 ± 1.7 msec (n. = 5), but only one recording was obtained from the contralateral femoral nerve with a delay of 37.5 msec. Stimulation of the femoral nerve trunk evoked responses in the contralateral tibial nerve with a mean delay of 36.4 ± 3.2 msec (n. = 7), but only once in the contralateral femoral nerve with a delay of 51.5 msec. The investigation of dorsal root - dorsal root reflexes (DR - DRR) showed that crossed DR - DRRs persisted even after partial hemisection had been performed, but the delay of the crossed reflexes after hemisection (41.9 ± 7.1 msec) was much longer than before hemisection (18.3 ± 1.8 msec). This suggests that there is a connecting network between the dorsal horns through which the impulses travel up, down and across the spinal cord. (DX85694)</p
FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI KEMENANGAN JEFRY NOER DAN IBRAHIM ALI DI PILKADA KABUPATEN KAMPAR
Dalam pegelaran Pilkada di Kabupaten Kampar tahun 2011 ada tiga pasang kandidat yang tampil sebagai calon bupati dan wakilnya. Jefry Noer dan Ibrahim Ali keluar sebagai pemenang dalam konstelasi pergelaran pesta demokrasi di Kabupaten Kampar tersebut. Pasangan ini mampu mengalahkan petahana dalam pesta demokrasi rakyat tersebut. Tentu saja kemanangan tersebut didapat melalui perencanaan dan pemasaran produk politik yang baik. Kemenangan akan datang dari persiapan yang matang. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari bagaimana strategi yang diterapkan oleh tim pemenangan mereka. Selain pengimplementasian pemasaran politik melalui strategi yang efektif tersebut, ternyata kemenangan pasangan Jefry Noer dan Ibrahim Ali juga dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor. Tulisan ini akan menjelaskan faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi kemenangan pasangan yang juga sukses mengalahkan pasangan petahana tersebut. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan pengumpulan data melalui teknik wawancara dan dokumentasi. Melalui metode penelitian yang peneliti gunakan tersebut, dapat kita lihat faktor apa saja yang berpengaruh dalam pemenangan pasangan calon ini. Ada lima faktor yang mempengaruhi kemenangan Jefry Noer dan Ibrahim Ali dalam pergelaran Pemilukada Kabupaten Kampar tahun 2011 yakni; faktor internal, faktor eksternal, perilaku pemilih, pengelolaan media, dan pengawalan suara yang berlapis.

Embedded Electronic System Based on Dedicated Hardware DSPs for Electronic Skin Implementation
AbstractThe effort to develop an electronic skin is highly motivated by many application domains namely robotics, biomedical instrumentations, and replacement prosthetic devices. Several e-skin systems have been proposed recently and have demonstrated the need of an embedded electronic system for tactile data processing either to mimic the human skin or to respond to the application demands. Processing tactile data requires efficient methods to extract meaningful information from raw sensors data.In this framework, our goal is the development of a dedicated embedded electronic system for electronic skin. The embedded electronic system has to acquire the tactile data, process and extract structured information. Machine Learning (ML) represents an effective method for data analysis in many domains: it has recently demonstrated its effectiveness in processing tactile sensors data.This paper presents an embedded electronic system based on dedicated hardware implementation for electronic skin systems. It provides a Tensorial kernel function implementation for machine learning based on Tensorial kernel approach. Results assess the time latency and the hardware complexity for real time functionality. The implementation results highlight the high amount of power consumption needed for the input touch modalities classification task. Conclusions and future perspectives are also presented

Temubual ini adalah antara kami dengan Dato' Ibrahim Ali iaitu Mantan ahli parlimen Pasir mas yang kini merangkap presiden Perkasa. Wawancara ini dijalankan di pejabat beliau yang beralamat di pejabat gagasan pribumi Perkasa Kuala Lumpur. Sesi wawancara bersama Dato' Ibrahim Ali ini telah dijalankan pada hari rabu, 16 April 2014 pada pukul 12.28 tengahari. Temubual ini berkisar tentang latar belakang Dato' Ibrahim Ali dan pengalaman beliau yang diperolehi semasa menjadi ahli parlimen. Selain itu juga, pelbagai pengalaman yang diperolehi beliau ketika melibatkan diri dalam dunia politik. Ketika temuramah ini berlangsung, kami dapat mengetahui serba sedikit tentang perkembangan politik dan juga gagasan Perkasa dari masa ke semasa. Disamping itu juga temuramah ini dapat memberi sedikit sebanyak gambaran tentang perjuangan beliau untuk merperjuangkan pribumi terutamanya membela hak rakyat melayu dari di tindas oleh orang luar
Approximate Computing Techniques for Low Power Implementation of Reconfigurable Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer Circuits
Efficient low power design is one of the most important metrics facing the embedded electronic systems. Many low power design techniques and technologies are developed and used in various domains aiming to meet the application demands. In this paper we present an efficient approach combining two different techniques at architecture and circuit levels to reduce the power consumption of CORDIC circuits. At architecture level we propose a scalable precision architecture which turns-off a part of the circuit during real time functionality to reduce the circuit dynamic power. Then, we exploit the use of inexact adders at the place of the normal ones in the reconfigurable CORDIC circuit. The proposed approach provides a good improvement over the other similar systems: it decreases up to 6× the slice-delay product when performance is compared; moreover, the proposed reconfigurable approximate CORDIC reduces 40% the consumption of power when operating in normal mode, and achieves a reduction up to 73% over the other systems when operating in Save-mode 1.
