Toward a teaching embodied-centered: perspectives of research and intervention

    No full text
The aim of this study is to present experimental evidence in support of the idea that an “embodied-centered” teaching approach based on multimodal sensory grounding should be more effective than a classic verbal-centered teaching approach. The study is based on the comparison between learning and retrieval of sentences presented in a verbal only or verbal plus related visual images modality. Concrete and abstract meanings were used. Participants had to learn and then recognize these sentences (name and verb recognition). The preliminary data showed a general facilitation of the verbal plus visual image of the learning material. Moreover, a difficulty with abstract sentences emerged. The pattern of results supports the effectiveness of an embodied centered teaching based on educational stimulations that have a strong experiential sensory-motor basis. The implications of these results are discussed

Editoriale / Editorial - Life skills and human transitions

    No full text
In time of pandemic and post-pandemic, debate on life skills has become lively again. Crisis that we are going through has amply demonstrated the fragility of our life environments like the healthcare, social, educational, cultural, technological ones. Such scenario demonstrates the need to strengthen the system of developing life skills, coping, resilience in order to make human and digital transitions more sustainable. Undergoing "transitions," without being equipped, makes us unable to navigate them usefully. Thus, this would risk widening the opportunity gap between individuals, worsening poverty and increasing social injustice

MIGRANT PARENTING AS EMPOWERMENT. THE EDUCATIONAL CARE OF MIGRANTS MOTHERS WITHIN THE PROCIDA INTEGRATED RECEPTION SYSTEM

Our proposal offers a "female empowerment educational model" aimed at the bio-psycho-social wellbeing of migrant mothers, often victims of prostitution and trafficking, hosted at the SAI (System of Reception and Integration) on the island of Procida since 2018 under the AIDA project – ‘Arturo's Island’, funded by the Ministry of the Interior (Department of Civil Liberties and Immigration), promoted by the Municipality of Procida and LESS Social Cooperative. After having identified migrant women as a specific target group, currently, the AIDA project accommodates 25 beneficiaries from Iran, Nigeria, and Ukraine. Various outcomes have been achieved through the project in terms of selfempowerment, social and parenting skills, and support to the educational models of the welcoming country by “hands-on” activities for mothers and children. Since 2018, the project has initiated agency implementation (Giddens, 1979) through cooperation between the project's multidisciplinary team and the local, educational, and health services. This process has made the "Procida model" a unique example of "second reception", centered upon the intercultural coexistence (Dusi, 2007; Iavarone et al., 2015; Portera, 2004). Through a participatory actionresearch approach and a holistic vision, the AIDA project has brought together the entire chain of formal and informal services at the local community level to implement a support network for the personal and social empowerment of the beneficiaries. This has been notably achieved through the facilitation of job placements through internships and apprenticeships within local artisan workshops, significantly bolstering wellbeing of the beneficiaries in order to embody a comprehensive approach to care and integration

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Background: Morality and moral reasoning develop over the course of life, but such development may encounter obstacles. Psycho-educational interventions could be designed to improve moral reasoning and attitude towards prosociality. In the last decades, many interventions employed digital technologies ranging from multicomponent online platforms to serious games and virtual reality, making use of interactivity and immersive properties that could make moral stimuli more engaging. Aims: This study aimed at reviewing the literature on digital interventions to support morality and moral reasoning, carried out with subjects of all age groups. Methods and results: Two electronic databases were searched with a systematic approach, and retrieved publications were scanned by authors against inclusion criteria. Twenty-three articles were reviewed. In general, the literature describes encouraging results of digital interventions to support morality. Moreover, a huge variety of morality conceptualizations emerged across various contexts (e.g., professional, school and sports) as well as various outcome measurements (e.g., change in attitudes and change in behaviour). Conclusions: Effectiveness of digital interventions may relate to immersive and interactive simulations in particular, in that they allow participants not only to learn about moral rules and principles but also to actively exercise their own morality to make decisions. Future research may build on the present scoping review to analyse specific types of interventions' effectiveness with a meta-analytical approach
