No full textProfessor Ian Anderson, one of Australia’s leading Indigenous health experts and foundation Chair in Indigenous Health at the University of Melbourne recently dropped by Eidos Institute to comment on some of the countries most pervasive issues of Indigenous inequality and disadvantage.
Professor Anderson is currently involved in an Eidos Institute research report on innovative policy making in the area of Indigenous employment.
He highlighted the importance of the economy and the emergence of an Aboriginal middle class as key factors for continual growth and development broadly across the ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives.
“What has been missing is social change in broader mainstream society and particularly within the economy,” he said.

Sein künstlerischer Output wird hier auf mehreren relevanten Ebenen betrachtet, wobei versucht wird der Tatsache Rechnung zu tragen, dass Anderson durch seine Fähigkeiten als Songschreiber, Produzent, Multiinstrumentalist und Sänger für den größten Teil jeglicher unter dem Namen Jethro Tull erschienenen Musik verantwortlich zeichnet. Dabei wurde eine chronologische Vorgehensweise mit einer Einteilung in Schaffensphasen gewählt, um, bei gleichbleibender Kapitelstrukturierung, eine möglichst klare und vergleichbare Darstellung der einzelnen Entwicklungsschritte auf den behandelten Ebenen zu erzielen. Besonderes Augenmerk wurde in dieser Arbeit auf die Entwicklung von Andersons Spieltechnik auf der Querflöte gelegt, um die vorhandene Literatur in diesem Bereich sinnvoll zu ergänzen.This paper intends to deliver an overview, supported by musical analysis, of the musical life work of Ian Anderson, co-founder and leader of the british Rock-Band Jethro Tull. His artistic output will be examined on several significant levels, while also trying to bring to the fore the fact, that Anderson, through his accomplishments as a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer, is directly responsible for most of the music released under the name Jethro Tull. A chronological approach with divisions in several creative phases and consistent structures for all chapters was chosen, to allow for a comparable display of individual developments. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Bureaucracy's bleeding northern heart
No full textIan Anderson reviews Tess Lea\u27s innovative book, Bureaucrats and Bleeding HeartsI FIRST ENCOUNTERED Tess Lea at an Australian Anthropological Society Conference some time in the late nineties, although I don’t recall actually being introduced. I was fascinated by an exchange between Tess and one of the co-presenters of the session I was speaking in. My presentation was a fairly mediocre and forgettable account of “Aboriginal health strategic research policy” - which in retrospect was as paradigmatically misplaced and incomprehensible in this forum as ethnography may be for many public servants. It contrasted sharply with a much more engaging and entertaining presentation given by a public service insider, who reeled through a series of personal anecdotes about bureaucratic work in the environment portfolio. The audience responded well and the presenter evidently enjoyed his own repartee. “Why do you do that?” Tess asked with penetrating incision, referring to his joking style. I can’t remember his response - I am not even sure that he understood the point of the question. But I do remember the emotionality of the moment as the merriment and rapport in the room evaporated. Like the allegorical bunny he was snared in the glare of the ethnographer’s headlights - transfixed yet inexorably drawn towards an inevitable and uncomfortable demise....

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
