IPC-N ohjaajien kokemuksia IPC-N -menetelmäohjauksesta
No full textTämän gradututkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tutkia IPC-N-menetelmäohjaukseen osallistuneiden ammattilaisten henkilökohtaisia kokemuksia IPC-N menetelmäohjauksesta. Tarkoituksena oli myös saada selville mitä IPC-menetelmäohjauksen käyneet ammattilaiset toivovat menetelmäohjauksen lisäksi tukemaan IPC-N-intervention käyttöä. Tutkimuksessa vastattiin tutkimuskysymyksiin: Millainen menetelmäohjaus tukee IPC-N-intervention käyttöä? Mitä menetelmäohjauksen lisäksi toivotaan menetelmän käytön tueksi? Tutkimus on ajankohtainen, sillä psykososiaalisten menetelmien koulutukset ovat keskeisessä roolissa kansallisessa mielenterveystyön kehittämisessä eikä IPC-N-menetelmäohjausta koskevaa tutkimusta ei ole juurikaan saatavilla.
Tutkimuksen teoreettinen kehys rajattiin käsittelemään masennuksen hoitoa sekä tunnistamista perustasolla nuorten arkiympäristössä sekä näyttöön perustuvaa IPC-N-interventiota. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostui 74 vastauksesta. Aineisto kerättiin Psykososiaalisten menetelmien käyttöönoton koordinointi OYS-yhteistyöalueelle -hankkeessa kehitetyn sähköisen Webropol-kyselyn avulla. Tutkimuksen kohteena olivat hankkeen toteuttamaan IPC-N-menetelmäohjaajakoulutukseen vuoden ajan osallistuneet IPC-N-ohjaajat. Tutkimus on laadullinen tutkimus, jossa hyödynnetään myös määrällistä tutkimusta. Tutkimuksen vastaajien kokemuksellisen tiedon merkitys sai tutkimuksessa paljon painoarvoa ja tämän vuoksi tutkimus painottui vahvasti laadulliseen analyysiin.
Tutkimustulosten perusteella IPC-N-menetelmäohjaukseen osallistuneet interventiokoulutettavat kokivat vuoden mittaisen menetelmäohjauksen riittävänä, sisällön kattavana sekä menetelmäohjauksen säännöllisyyden tukevan IPC-N-menetelmän käyttöä. Menetelmäohjauksen ryhmämuotoisuus koettiin tutkimuksessa tärkeäksi. Vertaistuen ja ryhmän hyöty IPC-N-menetelmän käytön tukena osoittautui IPC-N-koulutettaville arvokkaaksi. Useat IPC-N-ohjaajat eivät toivoneet mitään lisää menetelmäohjaukseen. Tutkimustuloksissa nousi esiin kuitenkin, että merkittävä osa IPC-N-ohjaajista toivoi työarjessaan esihenkilön tukea IPC-N-intervention käyttöön. IPC-N-ohjaajat toivoivat myös, että esihenkilöllä olisi enemmän ymmärrystä ja tietoa IPC-N-interventiosta. Tutkimuksessa nousi esiin, että IPC-N-menetelmäohjaukseen osallistuneet ammattilaisten toivoivat menetelmäohjaukselta nykyistä enemmän käytännön esimerkkitapauksia, teorian läpikäymistä sekä selkeää IPC-runkoa.
Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat IPC-N-menetelmäohjauksen tukevan hyvin IPC-N-intervention käyttöä ja näin ollen juurtumista palvelujärjestelmään. Tutkimustuloksia voidaan hyödyntää IPC-N-menetelmäohjauksen kehittämisessä ja IPC-N-intervention sekä muiden psykososiaalisten menetelmien implementoinnissa
Politicising stardom: Jane Fonda, IPC Films and Hollywood, 1977-1982
No full textPhDThis thesis is an empirical analysis of Jane Fonda’s films, stardom, and political activism during the most commercially successful period of her career. At the outset, Fonda’s early stardom is situated in relation to contemporaneous moral and political ideologies in the United States and how she functioned as both an agent and symbol of these ideologies. Her anti-war activism in the early-1970s constituted the apex of Fonda’s radicalisation and the nadir of her popular appeal; a central question of this thesis, therefore, is how her stardom was rehabilitated for the American mainstream to the point of becoming Hollywood’s most bankable actress.
As the star and producer of IPC Films, Fonda developed political projects using commercial formats, namely Coming Home (1978), The China Syndrome (1979), Nine to Five (1980), and Rollover (1981). The final IPC film, On Golden Pond (1981), signalled an ideological breach in this political strategy by favouring a familial spectacle, and duly outperformed its predecessors significantly. The first and last chapters of this work provide historical parameters for IPC in Fonda’s career, while the remaining chapters are structured by the conceptual and political aspects of each IPC project. Julia (1977) is discussed as an IPC prototype through its dramatisation of political consciousness. Coming Home, The China Syndrome, Nine to Five, and Rollover all exhibit this motif whereas On Golden Pond employs melodramatic nostalgia. Often discussed reductively as a star symbolising change, this thesis instead uses archival and published sources to analyse Fonda’s individual agency in historical context, as well as the cultural and political impact of her stardom. The IPC enterprise provided cinematic apparatus for Fonda’s political recuperation within the American mainstream, which, more broadly, harboured significance for the nation’s conservative resurgence at the end of the 1970s
IPC Acute Food Insecurity Snapshot | August 2023 - June 2024
No full textAbout 4.35 million in Haiti are experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity, latest analyses indicates. In the current period of August 2023 to February 2024, 4.35 million people or 44 percent of the population in Haiti need urgent action. Around 1.4 million people are classified in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency) and around 2.95 million people are in IPC Phase 3 (Crisis). No humanitarian food assistance has been confirmed for the projected period of March to June 2024, therefore, it is estimated that the number of people in Phase 3 will likely increase to 3.03 million (31 percent of the population) – bringing the total population in need of urgent action to 45 percent. In the current period, five of the 32 areas analysed are classified in Phase 4, including the Grand-Anse department (Grand Anse HT 07 and 08, with the exception of the town of Jérémie), poor districts of Port-au-Prince, Cité Soleil, and the west livelihood zone HT07, comprising the communes to the north of Port-au-Prince and the Palmes area. Gang violence continues to have a detrimental effect on Haiti’s food security situation, with an increase in kidnappings, armed attacks, robberies and sexual violence. This has forced the countries human resources to emigrate and major internal displacement to take place – particularly in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and the Artibonite valley (Analysis zone Artibonite HT04). Insecurity also continues to disrupt access to markets and the movement of people and goods including agricultural products. Compared to the September 2022 analysis, the situation has improved slightly in some areas with the total population in IPC Phase 3 or above decreasing from 47 to 44 percent. The September 2022 analysis was also conducted during a period of socio-political unrest and economic instability – which drove up the fuel prices and caused a sharp increase in the dollar. Inflation reached high levels since the embargo of the 1990s. However, environmental changes and climatic shocks continue to impact Haiti’s food security situation. The delay of the rainy season and rainfall deficits affected the 2023 spring season, specifically the departments of Grand-Anse, Ouest, Centre and Sud-Est. Rainfall deficits and drought have been affecting Haiti since 2013, in addition to the periodical impact of natural disasters throughout the country that continue to significantly affect people and livelihoods. Analysis and Experimental Evaluation of the Intrinsically Passive Controller (IPC) for Multifingered Hands

manipulation tasks. In the past, many algorithms were proposed
based on a weighted pseudoinverse of the grasp map. In a
different approach Stramigioli introduces a virtual object -
called “Intrinsically Passive Controller (IPC)”. This controller
distributes the generalized object forces using coupling springs
whose weighting have an intuitive physical meaning. Even
though this controller has been known for several years we
will present the first experimental results for a four-fingered
hand. Furthermore, the term virtual grasp map is introduced
and a method to parameterize the stiffness parameters in order
to obtain an effective object level stiffness and a damping design
is proposed. An implementation of the IPC is tested on the DLR
Hand II and its performance is analyzed by manipulating soft
and stiff objects

Vulnerability to Hunger: Improving Food Crisis Responses in Fragile States

Recognizing the persistence and protracted nature of food crises, the paper questions how prevention and response mechanisms could be improved to help decisionmakers better address the underlying causes of vulnerability and hunger. The paper draws on case study information to examine real life opportunities and constraints in applying a recently developed food security classification system, named the analytical frameworks at country level, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Developed originally in Somalia, this classification framework is now being applied in a range of country contexts within and outside of Africa by national governments, UN agencies, donors and NGO organizations.
