Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFO presente trabalho tem como tema a adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígenas. Como delimitação do tema, optou-se por examinar a adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígenas realizada por famílias não indígenas, à luz da proteção integral. O problema proposto consiste em verificar de que forma a adoção de crianças e adolescentes indígenas realizada por famílias não indígenas observa a teoria da proteção integral e o necessário respeito à sua identidade social e cultural? O objetivo geral é compreender o processo de adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígenas, em relação à teoria da proteção integral, o direito à convivência familiar e comunitária e ao respeito à identidade cultural destes povos. Como objetivos específicos propõe-se analisar os dispositivos normativos aplicáveis à hipótese de adoção de indígenas, e sua evolução no ordenamento jurídico brasileiro e fundamentos históricos. Identificar as bases e fundamentos da teoria da proteção integral e do direito à convivência familiar e comunitária, bem como o sistema de proteção constitucional conferido aos povos indígenas, em especial a proteção à sua identidade social e cultural. Avaliar se o modelo previsto para adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígenas no ordenamento jurídico é compatível com o sistema de garantias aos povos originários. A metodologia adotada foi o método dedutivo, por meio de pesquisa e análise bibliográfica e documental, com abordagem quantitativa. Durante as pesquisas, verificou-se que, historicamente, os povos indígenas na América Latina foram vítimas de processos de conquista, colonização e políticas assimilacionistas que buscaram integrar suas comunidades à sociedade envolvente, em detrimento de sua identidade cultural. O impacto do colonialismo espanhol e português foi devastador, na medida em que a população indígena, que somava cerca de 80 milhões de pessoas no século XVI, foi reduzida a apenas 10 milhões em apenas um século (PREVE, 2019). No campo jurídico, o Brasil caminhou a passos lentos, apenas recentemente houve mudança de paradigma quanto à necessidade de proteção da cultura indígena. As constituições brasileiras até 1988 foram omissas quanto ao reconhecimento das identidades indígenas; quando tratavam do tema afirmavam a lógica de integração forçada. A proteção só ocorre com o advento da Constituição de 1988, que rompe com o paradigma assimilacionista. Esse contexto revela o desafio de compatibilizar o direito de crianças e adolescentes indígenas à convivência familiar e comunitária com a proteção integral, especialmente quando a adoção por famílias não indígenas surge como única opção viável. O estudo evidencia que o instituto da adoção no Brasil evoluiu de um modelo excludente e discriminatório durante a vigência do Código Civil de 1916 para uma concepção igualitária e protetiva após o advento da Constituição Federal de 1988. Contudo, em se tratando da adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígenas, apenas com o advento da Lei nº 12.010/2009 é que foi suprimida a lacuna legislativa sobre o tema, ao determinar que a colocação em família substituta deve ocorrer prioritariamente no seio da comunidade indígena ou junto a membros da mesma etnia. O Conselho Nacional de Justiça, por meio da Resolução nº 454/2022, passou a regulamentar a matéria e determinar que processos de acolhimento e adoção de crianças indígenas considerem seus costumes, línguas e instituições, cabendo ao Judiciário respeitar a prioridade da colocação em sua comunidade. A jurisprudência do Superior Tribunal de Justiça enfrentou o tema no REsp 1.566.808/MS, julgado em 19 de setembro de 2017, ocasião em que a corte decidiu que, embora a prioridade seja a manutenção da criança em sua comunidade, não se pode negar a possibilidade de adoção por famílias não indígenas quando frustradas as tentativas de reinserção e quando prevalecer o interesse fundamental de viver em ambiente familiar. Essa ponderação demonstra a tensão entre dois direitos fundamentais: o de preservar a cultura e o de viver em família. Fernandes (2022) sustenta que a adoção “com fins civilizatórios” de indígenas não mais se coaduna com a nova ordem constitucional, que assegura a pluralidade de identidade social e cultural, os costumes e tradições. Souza (2016) lembra que a doutrina da proteção integral “reconhece a criança e o adolescente com sujeitos de direitos, direitos estes universalizados, pautados na dimensão de proteção”. Portanto, o direito fundamental de pertencer a uma família, embora possa se sobrepor em casos concretos à preservação da cultura, deve ser entendida pela via da excepcionalidade, mediante acompanhamento por equipes técnicas interdisciplinares e do compromisso com a manutenção, sempre que possível, dos vínculos culturais, para que, assim, possa haver a compatibilidade da adoção de crianças e adolescentes de comunidades indígena por famílias não indígenas com a doutrina da proteção integral
