The IACCP Archives Project
Get PDFIn July 2006 a workshop featuring a suggested IACCP Archives Project was part of the programme at the IACCP international congress in Spetses, Greece. About 25 highly interested people attended it. An informal meeting was held about a week later. John Berry and Walt Lonner, and several senior members of IACCP, were active participants in both sessions. Everyone involved so far has enthusiastically endorsed the basic idea of establishing the Archives and finding a permanent home for them. We also will need to develop some procedures for possible uses of the various components that the archives may contain

No full textTo test how emotions are represented in children's literature (CL), 60 top sellers books by 30 males and 30 females of various nationalities were selected, content-analysing 3 emotional episodes for each according to a detailed grid - eg., emotion Type (joy, etc.), Antecedent, Expressive-physiological reactions; role of episode characters (eg., A causes emotion X). Category analyses confirmed that CL is a powerful means of emotional literacy (descriptions are articulated, in emotion-specific profiles), but still somewhat gender stereotyped. For instance, results showed that CL characters are predominantly male (65%), mostly experiencing basic emotions (anger, sadness, etc.) rather than others (e.g., shame, surprise). Story antecedents (eg., loss) are mainly caused by others' actions. Story characters are partially gendered - eg., Joy, Fear, Anxiety, crying, vocal expressions, action tendency inhibition, and experience control characterize girls more more than boys. Men describe boys and some emotions (Anger, Fear, Disgust) more than women
The factorial validity of a behavioral acculturation questionnaire: evidence for the Bi-dimensional model
No full textIn the present study, a 10-item acculturation questionnaire focusing on behavior was developed and assessed for its factorial validity. Acculturation is measured using two separate subscales: one representing the relationships with the mainstream culture and the other representing the relationships with the heritage culture. An item pool consisting of 64 behavioral acculturation statements belonging to five broad content domains (language, culture, cultural activities, behavioral rules, social relationships) was generated. Based upon a sample of 306 Turkish and Moroccan immigrants living in Belgium, the best item referring to the mainstream culture and the best item referring to the heritage culture was selected for each domain. In this way the number of items was reduced to 10. By applying confirmatory factor analysis on the 10-item version, two almost unrelated factors (relationship with the mainstream culture and relationship with the heritage culture) were identified. Moreover, this structure was confirmed in a second sample of adult immigrants (N = 306) and a sample of immigrant adolescents (N = 283) of Turkish and Moroccan origin

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
