No full textThe essay examines Arturo Pérez-Reverte's novel The Dumas Club. The novel can be categorized as a literary crime story; it maintains the characteristics of traditional detective fiction, but, as the author points out, it also presents the use of refined and complex narrative techniques. Pérez Reverte offers a dizzying array of cultural, literary and historical references, which all carry a metaphoric layer of meaning and expand the narrative space and time of the novel into infinity. Similarly to the Greek tradition and the characteristics of the literature of adventure, defined by Bakhtin, the condensed time and space become the principal motivators for the action. The complex system of symbols, the chronotopical motives and the metatextual references offer different layers of possible interpretations and provide a complex character portrayal. Pérez-Reverte's characters embody Sherlock Holmes and other famous detectives; at the same time, they evoke the classic heroes of The Three Muskateers, and often bear similarities to the author himself, and to important literary predecessors. Each of the 16 chapters of the novel is preceded by a motto taken from a famous literary work of art; these quotations function as an incipit, advancing and, at the same time, reflecting to the most important elements of the chapter

No full text2012 Spring.Includes bibliographical references.Text in Spanish; title and abstract in English and Spanish.The work of the Spanish novelist Arturo Pérez-Reverte has had a considerable critical reception, but most of these critics focus on the analysis of narrative resources used by the author and avoid inquiring into the ideology that underlies its novel output. In the present study we analyze the ideology inherent in the historical novels of Pérez-Reverte that focus on the first third of the nineteenth century --the period that runs from the end of the reign of Charles IV, the Spanish War of Independence and the liberal and absolutist periods of the second decade of the century--. This is done by examining the development of various concepts of vital importance in the narrative of Pérez-Reverte: war, history and ideology. These concepts will be studied in the novels El húsar, La sombra del águila, Territorio comanche, Cabo Trafalgar, Un día de cólera and El asedio. In this study, these novels are divided into two groups according to the evolution that the author experienced during his career novel, which begins under the influence of a liberal trend and ends with an ideological vision closer to nationalism and traditionalism. This research aims to demonstrate how Pérez-Reverte does a critical examination of the past so that the reader can connect it with the present and recover "some" collective memory and a "lost" national identity constructed through the narration of certain episodes of national history

Neurodevelopmental effects of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) in APOE transgenic mice
No full text10.1016/j.ntt.2014.08.003Exposure to low doses of neurotoxic pollutants during early brain development is a public health concern. Perinatal exposure to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) has been associated with neurodevelopmental effects in infants and long-term behavioral alterations in rodents. Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) is extensively used in the industry, with its potential risk to humans still under examination. In a previous study, we found that a single postnatal administration of BDE-209 impaired spatial learning in mice at 12 months of age, but a similar alteration was present in young mice carrying a specific genotype of apolipoprotein E (apoE). On the basis of our results, the main goal of the current investigation was to assess whether the same exposure to BDE-209 would affect the neurodevelopment of apoE transgenic mice. We used a functional observational battery (FOB) to evaluate the physical and neuromotor maturation of transgenic mice carrying different apoE polymorphisms (e2, e3, and e4). On postnatal day 10, BDE-209 was administered orally at 0, 10 and 30 mg/kg and neurodevelopmental screening was carried out until postnatal day 36. We observed a subtle delay in eye opening in mice carrying the apoE4 genotype. Exposure to the high dose of BDE-209 retarded the eye opening of apoE2 mice, but no other developmental features were affected. The results indicate few effects of BDE-209 during development, while the vulnerability conferred by the apoE genotype may vary depending on age. Identifying relevant early gene-environment interactions is fundamental for a better understanding of adult health and disease

No full text[SPA] Este trabajo aborda el desarrollo y prueba de concepto de nuevos métodos de secado por microondas, que garanticen una uniformidad de calentamiento viable en todo el volumen del producto para cumplir con las condiciones de esterilización de SANDACH. Se han analizado los modelos válidos de diseño de aplicadores para dar solución al secado por microondas de los desechos procedentes de piscifactorías. En este trabajo se describen técnicas de diseño de aplicadores (monomodo y multimodo), con el objetivo de obtener un campo eléctrico lo más uniforme posible sobre la muestra. Para poder medir la esterilización, se han diseño una nueva generación de biosensores que puedan garantizar la seguridad alimentaria. Este modelo se ha basado en microorganismos que permiten conocer de forma precisa la variabilidad de calentamiento en todo el producto y cuantificar los niveles de seguridad. Se ha diseñado una cavidad monomodo resonante, para realizar pruebas de calentamiento en atmósfera de presión de pequeñas muestras (tubo de ensayo), de tal modo que se garantice la uniformidad de calentamiento en la muestra, y con sensores de temperatura que monitoricen el tratamiento, permitiendo validar la eficacia de los biosensores. Se han desarrollado los cálculos conducentes a la configuración óptima del horno túnel de microondas para diferentes objetivos de temperatura en muestras de SANDACH, con la inclusión de los biosensores, implementando, así un equipo semi-industrial, diseñado por el Grupo I+D Electromagnetismo y Materia. Y se recogen los resultados experimentales, medidos en los diseños de los aplicadores desarrollados, fundamentalmente de uniformidad en la cavidad monomodo y análisis bacteriológico y uniformidad en el calentamiento en el proceso de esterilización para el diseño del horno industrial.[ENG] This work addresses the development and proof of concept of new microwave drying methods, which ensure viable heating uniformity throughout the product volume to meet SANDACH sterilization conditions. Valid applicator design models have been analyzed to provide a solution for microwave drying of waste from fish farms. In this work, applicator design techniques (single and multimode) are described, with the aim of obtaining the most uniform electric field possible on the sample. To be able to measure sterilization, a new generation of biosensors have been designed that can guarantee food safety. This model has been based on microorganisms that make it possible to know precisely the heating variability throughout the product and to quantify the safety levels. A single-mode resonant cavity has been designed to carry out heating tests in pressure atmosphere of small samples (test tube), in such a way that the heating uniformity in the sample is guaranteed, and with temperature sensors that monitor the treatment, allowing to validate the effectiveness of biosensors. The calculations leading to the optimal configuration of the microwave tunnel oven have been developed for different temperature objectives in SANDACH samples, with the inclusion of biosensors, thus implementing a semi-industrial equipment, designed by the Electromagnetism and Matter I+ D Group of the UPCT. Implementació d'un ecosistema de compartició de ciberintel·ligència en un entorn domèstic
No full textGràcies a l'empresa que em va contractar, Ernst & Young, tinc la possibilitat de desenvolupar algunes parts d'un ecosistema de compartició de ciberintel·ligència, que servirà per a un dels seus clients, l'Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya. Aquest projecte té com a principal objectiu realitzar la implementació d'un ecosistema semblant, en un entorn domèstic mitjançant l'ús de diferents solucions, i per tant, aconseguir l'objectiu de tenir un entorn on poder monitorar les ciberamenaces que ocorrin. Dins de l'empresa, es tracta d'un projecte nou que està dirigit pel director Jaume Vidal Reverte i que està al càrrec de supervisar el projecte. És un projecte el qual, ni en l'empresa ni en el client pel qual va dirigit, s'havia realitzat i per tant, serà el primer cop que es treballi en un entorn tan desenvolupat d'intercanvi d'intel·ligència. Amb aquest ecosistema plantejat, es disposarà a implementar-ho en un entorn domèstic, com es podria tractar per exemple, en el teu ordinador de treball. L'objectiu de l'empresa i del client és que aquest Ecosistema CTI sigui la principal font de feeds d'intel·ligència i d'informació sobre ciberamenaçes, i d'aquesta manera poder mitigar de manera prioritzada i eficient l'afectació, i ajudar en la presa de decisions en el cas que una ciberamenaça sigui detectada. Equivalentment, l'objectiu principal de tenir aquest ecosistema al teu entorn domèstic, és poder monitorar les amenaces i poder arribar a temps de mitigar-les en el teu entorn.Thanks to the company that hired me, Ernst & Young, I have the opportunity to develop some parts of a cyberintelligence sharing ecosystem, which will serve one of their clients, the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia. The main objective of this project is to implement a similar ecosystem in a domestic environment through the use of different solutions, and therefore, to achieve the goal of having an environment in which to monitor the cyber threats that occur. Within the company, it is a new project that is led by the director Jaume Vidal Reverte, who is in charge of supervising the project. It is a project which, neither in the company nor in the client for whom it is directed, has ever been carried out and therefore, it will be the first time that it is worked in such a developed environment of intelligence exchange. With this proposed ecosystem, it will be ready to implement it in a domestic environment, as it could be, for example, in your work computer. The objective of the company and the client is for this CTI Ecosystem to be the main source of intelligence feeds and information on cyber threats, and thus be able to mitigate the impact in a prioritized and efficient manner, and assist in making decisions in the event that a cyber threat is detected.
