Las Celebraciones: Las Posadas
Las Posadas 20” x 24” 2020
This painting reflects the celebration of Las posadas a novena with song, prayer, and liturgy. It commemorates the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The Piñata is symbolic with the seven corners representing the Seven Deadly sins and the striking represents the effort Christians make in overcoming personal sin. The candy represents the sweetness of God’s grace through the birth of Jesus.
My paintings are based on my hispanic culture and catholic religion. I use modeling paste to create dimension within the paintings. I create this dimension within La Quinceañera by bringing the cake forth and using the paint to also manipulate the dimension of the piece. In El Dia de los Muertos I add dimension to the skull, flowers, bread, basket and candles. In Las Posadas I gave it dimension to the bat and the Piñata. Through my pieces I try to express how I see my Hispanic culture through these events.https://kb.gcsu.edu/visceral/1062/thumbnail.jp
Posadas de Puerto Rico v. Tourism Company of Puerto Rico: The End of the Beginning
In a speech delivered in November 1987, the author analyzes developments in the commercial speech doctrine since the Supreme Court\u27s 1986 decision in Posadas de Puerto Rico v. Tourism Company of Puerto Rico. The speech argues that Posadas is distinguishable on its unusual facts from other commercial speech cases, and is fundamentally inconsistent with the Supreme Court\u27s seminal commercial speech decision in Central Hudson Gas & Electric v. Public Service Commission (1980). The author believes that a total ban on tobacco advertising would be impermissible under the first amendment, and not legitimized by Posadas. Finally, the speech reviews other significant commercial speech cases decided in 1987 and tentatively concludes that the commercial speech doctrine survives the Posadas decision

Advertising and Commercial Speech since the 1986 Posadas Case
The First Amendment status of advertising and commercial speech is assessed by evaluating the influence of the 1986 Posadas decision on subsequent court cases. In conjunction with other cases, particularly the Fox case of 1989, Posadas served to weaken the degree of protection for advertising. Implicit in the courts' decisions since Posadas is that restrictions of truthful advertising for lawful products is more likely in the future. </jats:p

Argentina, cranking airplane propeller at Posadas airfield
Due to a malfunction inside Platt's camera, the majority of his first 8,000 images, dating from 1919 to 1933, have blurred areas where the unexposed film was not laying flat inside the camera. His 35mm photography after 1933 does not show this defect, but the condition of the film is rather poor, having been housed between loose sheets of paper in cardboard boxes for over 50 years. The majority of images he took from 1933-1963 are severely scratched. Therefore, only a small portion of Platt's photography has been chosen for online presentation.4/8 Cranking at Posadas - Posadas field - Misiones. 12:35 p.m. NGrayscalePlatt Nitrate Negatives, Box 16
