The Impact of strategic implementation on the employees and contractors of the Hewlett-Packard Company.
Conducted within the global corporation of the Hewlett-Packard Company, (HP),this research examines employee and contractor responses to strategic implementation. The research environment is a relatively small UK group withinthe corporation that has continuously experienced significant change as new strategies were implemented. Employee and contractor responses to three separate cycles of change are analysed together with data drawn from the wider corporation by using a psychological contract framework, semi-structured interviewing, a research diary and secondary data from the literature and electronic sources. The research is essentially qualitative but draws on quantitative data where appropriate. A case study approach within an action research paradigm is the chosen methodology to allow consideration and triangulation of multiple sources of data relevant to the natural workplace setting. The research has confirmed a change from old or original psychological contracts to new contracts where employees and contractors are more insecure in, and more cynical of, their employment. This change is perceived as a
violation of their psychological contract and is causing employees and contractors to adopt a more mercenary approach to their employment with HP. The special bond between HP and its employees generated by the values and
egalitarian working environment created by its founders has been broken by new leadership. Acquisition of the Compaq Computer Company has further impacted employees and contractors resulting in declining morale and increasing scepticism about its proposed benefits. Indeed the very legitimacy of the acquisition and the leadership of HP are being questioned as HP changes to a new form. According to the founders, the values established that made HP successful in its first fifty years were expected to continue for at least another fifty years. This research shows how changing these values has collectively impacted
employees and contractors resulting in a major threat to the continuing existence of HP in its present form
Evolution of the use, effectiveness and safety of bismuth-containing quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection between 2013 and 2021 : results from the European registry on H. pylori management (Hp-EuReg)
Publisher Copyright: © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2025.background Bismuth quadruple therapies (BQTs) including bismuth, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and two antibiotics have been shown to be highly effective for treating Helicobacter pylori infection even in areas of high bacterial antibiotic resistance. Objective To describe the time trends of use, effectiveness and safety of BQT in Europe using the European Registry on Helicobacter pylori Management (Hp-EuReg). Design Patients registered in the Hp-EuReg from 2013 to 2021 who had received BQT were included. The regimens prescribed, the number of eradication attempts, effectiveness, adherence and safety were analysed. The effectiveness was assessed by modified intention to treat (mITT). Time-trend and multivariate analyses were performed to determine variables that predicted treatment success. results Of the 49 690 patients included in the Hp-EuReg, 15 582 (31%) had received BQT. BQT use increased from 8.6% of all treatments in 2013 to 39% in 2021. Single-capsule BQT—containing bismuth, metronidazole and tetracycline—plus a PPI (single-capsule BQT, ScBQT) was the most frequent treatment mode (43%). Schemes that obtained an effectiveness above 90% were the 10-day ScBQT and 14-day BQT using tetracycline plus metronidazole, or amoxicillin plus either clarithromycin or metronidazole. Only ScBQT achieved above 90% cure rates in all the geographical areas studied. Using the ScBQT scheme, adherence, the use of standard or high-dose PPIs, 14-day prescriptions and the use of BQT as first-line treatment were significantly associated with higher mITT effectiveness. Conclusion The use of BQT increased notably in Europe over the study period. A 10-day ScBQT was the scheme that most consistently achieved optimal effectiveness.Peer reviewe
Direct numerical simulation of the turbulent flow around an airfoil using spectral/HP method
Since the accuracy of the widely used Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) approach is limited simulating turbulent flow separation on airfoils, we applied a spectral/hp element method to predict the turbulent flow separation at an airfoil for an angle of attack of 12°. The spectral/hp approach allows to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation with spectral accuracy on unstructured grids by means of Direct Numerical simulation (DNS). Here we present first results we obtained from DNS of the flow around a fx79-w151a airfoil section for a low Reynolds Number = 5000

Macro Processor for HP 2100A Assembler
Title: Macro Processor for HP 2100A Assembler, Author: Kondapuram S. Sampathkumaran, Location: ThodeA Macro Processor is implemented in PILOT (Purdue International Language for Writing Operating systems and Translators) for HP 2100A DOS-M Assembler. The Macro Processor has the capability to handle Macro calls within macros, Macro definitions within other Macro definitions, conditional Macro expansion and the string operation of canatenation. A simple set of Macros for Fundamental Structured programming constructs is provided. The project also demonstrates, how an Intermediate-level language like PILOT can be used to implement system software. Experiments with a new programming philosophy for the writing of structured programs are also described.ThesisMaster of Science (MS
A posteriori error estimation and adaptivity in hp virtual elements
An explicit and computable error estimator for the hp version of the virtual element method (VEM), together with lower and upper bounds with respect to the exact energy error, is presented. Such error estimator is employed to provide, following the approach of Melenk and Wohlmuth (Adv Comput Math 15(1–4):311–331, 2001), hp adaptive mesh refinements for very general polygonal meshes. In addition, a novel VEM hp Clément quasi-interpolant, instrumental for the a posteriori error analysis, is introduced. The performances of the adaptive method are validated by a number of numerical experiments.© The Author(s) 201

The importance of pairwork in educational and interdisciplinary initiatives
An early and prominent employee of Google, Georges Harik, recently made the assertion that pairs working together in startups are 20 times more productive than individuals working alone. The author has also personally experienced the boost of what is here termed pairwork in a university setting during the startup phase of several educational and interdisciplinary initiatives. The paper briefly explores pairwork in the history of technology and constructs both qualitative and little quantitative models of pairwork. The quantitative model under reasonable assumptions easily recovers Harik’s 20x boost. The paper also briefly examines the author’s recent experiences with pairwork in four interdisciplinary and educational initiatives
