Humayun Kabir, Men and Rivers, and Faridpur

In the history of South Asian literature in English, Men and Rivers is the third fictional work written by a Muslim author after Rokeya's Sultana's Dream and Ahmed Ali's Twilight in Delhi (1940). Men and Rivers is a literary work of great merit though more research needs to be conducted on the work to appreciate its value by examining various thematic and stylistic features. Through Men and Rivers, Hamayun Kabir conferred on Faridpur literary immortality. I believe the novel will continue to make the district memorable and special to its readers for a very long time

Bangladesh’s writers on Wikipedia: Abbasuddin Ahmed and Humayun Kabir

In this essay, I have elaborated the cases of two writers, one of whom Wikipedia characterises as Bengali and the other as Indian. I have argued that Bangladesh should be included in their identity even if in a hyphenated form. There are a host of other pre-1971 writers whose identity should not remove their geographical affiliation to what is now Bangladesh. I hope Wikipedia entry-producers and others will consider describing writers with provenance in the spatial (not temporal) boundary of Bangladesh as Bangladeshi

An improved framework for approximating option prices with application to option portfolio hedging.

As the price of the underlying asset changes over time, delta of the option changes and a gamma hedge is required along with delta hedge to reduce risk. This paper develops an improved framework to compute delta and gamma values with the average of a range of underlying prices rather than at the conventional fixed ‘one point’. We find that models with time-varying volatility price options satisfactorily, and perform remarkably well in combination with the delta and delta-gamma approximations. Significant improvements are achieved for the GARCH model followed by stochastic volatility models. The new approach can ensure significant improvement in modelling option prices leading to better risk-management decision-makin

Lead competencies matrix to develop potential future leaders of Malaysia

    No full text
Leaders take calculated risks to reach a challenging goal. To become a leader, certain competencies are required. Selection of leaders is also very vital. The purpose of this study is to understand leadership roles, to determine selection process of choosing the right candidates for potential future leaders of an organization and to obtain competencies which will lead the candidates to get leadership quality. In this study, theoretical research has been conducted based on American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) model and secondary data has been used through existing research publications. A conceptual framework of Leadership selection process and lead competencies matrix model has been derived in Malaysian context. This study suggests that there are three steps in leadership selection process and ten lead competencies which are required to develop for a strategic leadership role to excel organizational performance. Human resource managers can use this selection process and model for developing future leaders. Primary data can be a potential enhancement of this research

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
