Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Influența pachetului de asistenţă prenatală din Indonezia asupra riscului avortului spontan/naşterii unui făt mort
No full textBACKGROUND: Maternal mortality rate (MMRate) in Indonesia increases recently. In 2012, MMRate was 359 per 100,000 live births, higher than MMRate in 2007 (228 per 100,000 live births). However, several years previously (1994, 1997, 2003, 2007), MMRate in Indonesia has shown gradually declining trend (390, 334, 307, 228). Some studies found prenatal care contributed to mother’s pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the package of prenatal care in Indonesia and its implications on pregnancy outcome: miscarriage/stillbirth. METHODS: This study used Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) round 4 data in 2007-2008. It was a cross-sectional study, involved 14,641 households. This study population was women aged 15-49 years, which was found 10.882 women. Data was analyzed by logistic regression. RESULTS: The results showed 12.36% among pregnant women experienced miscarriage/ stillbirth. Prenatal care package in Indonesia: health care visit during pregnancy, skilled birth attendants, Fe tablet supplementation was revealed significantly influenced pregnancy outcome. Pregnant women who did complete health care visit during pregnancy (2; 1; 1) had 7 times lower risk of miscarriage/ stillbirth, women who did not take Fe pill were 2 times more risky of experiencing miscarriage/ stillbirth. Additionally, characteristic of mother was also found to be related to pregnancy outcome. Housewife had a half times lower risk of miscarriage/ stillbirth compared to working women, while ill/ disabled women are 40 times more risky. This study recommends to highly promoting the prenatal care package and improving it for working and disabled women.CONTEXT: În Indonezia, rata mortalităţii materne (RMM) a început recent să crească. În anul 2012, RMM a fost de 359 la 100.000 de născuţi vii, mai mare decât RMM în anul 2007 (228 la 100.000 de născuţi vii). Cu toate acestea, cu mai mulţi ani în urmă (1994, 1997, 2003, 2007), RMM în Indonezia a cunoscut o tendinţă de scădere treptată (390, 334, 307, 228). Unele studii au evidenţiat faptul că îngrijirea prenatală influențează sarcina mamei. Acest studiu îşi propune să analizeze efectele pachetului de asistenţă/îngrijire prenatală din Indonezia, precum şi implicaţiile utilizării acestuia asupra rezultatului sarcinii: avort/naşterea unui făt mort.METODE: Acest studiu a utilizat Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) etapa a patra, între anii 2007-2008. Studiul a fost unul de tip transversal, care a implicat 14641 de familii. Populaţia inclusă în acest studiu a fost reprezentată de 10882 femei cu vârsta cuprinsă între 15-49 ani. Datele au fost analizate prin regresie logistică.REZULTATE: Rezultatele au arătat că 12,36% dintre femeile însărcinate au trecut printr-un avort/naştere a unui făt mort. Pachetul de asistenţă prenatală din Indonezia cuprinde: vizita medicală în timpul sarcinii, asistenţa de specialitate la naştere, administrare de tablete de fier, aspecte care au influenţat semnificativ evoluţia sarcinii. Femeile însărcinate care au făcut vizita medicală în timpul sarcinii (2;1;1) au avut de 7 ori mai mic riscul de avort/naştere a unui făt mort; femeile care nu au luat tablete de Fe în timpul sarcinii au fost supuse unui risc de 2 ori mai mare de avort/naştere a unui făt mort. Mai mult decât atât, s-a constatat că particularităţile mamei sunt legate de rezultatul sarcinii. Femeile casnice au avut un risc de avort spontan/naşterea unui făt mort de o dată şi jumătate mai mic, comparativ cu femeile care lucrează, în timp ce la femeile bolnave sau cele cu dizabilităţi, riscul este de 40 de ori mai mare.CONCLUZII: Pachetul de îngrijire prenatală a influenţat apariţia avortului şi a naşterii unui făt mort. Femeile care lucrează şi cele cu dizabilităţi au un risc mai mare. Acest studiu recomandă promovarea pachetului de îngrijire prenatală şi îmbunătățirea acestuia în cazul femeilor casnice şi a celor cu dizabilităţi. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
