Sound radiation from a generic bypass duct with bifurcations

    No full text
The influence of bifurcations in an aero-engine bypass duct on noise radiation was investigated through high-order accurate three-dimensional numerical simulations. The physical process was described by a set of acoustic perturbation equations (APE), with a background mean flow. Four bifurcation arrangements, with an airfoil cross-section, were regularly placed in circumferential direction. Results of the simulations were compared with those of a clean duct case. A circumferential mode of m=12 with radial mode of n=1 and multi-n modes at a source frequency of 1547 Hz were set as acoustic inputs. Acoustic modes interfered with the bifurcations resulting in a doubled circumferential mode pattern in the near field acoustic pressure distribution and slightly stronger sound pressure level behind the bifurcations. Far field noise computations indicated 3.2 dB and 2.0 dB sound pressure level increases for radial mode of n=1 and multi-n modes respectively. The bifurcations did not alter the radiation angle. A comparison was also made between APE and linearlised Euler equations (LEE). Results showed that the APE simulation produced almost identical far field sound prediction to the LEE, with a small difference (< 0.8dB) at the main radiation peak angle

Analyse des signaux multicomposante à modulation de fréquence linéaire par la transformation de Teager-Huang-Hough

A novel detection approach of linear FM (LFM) signals, with single or multiple components, in the time-frequency plane of Teager-Huang (TH) transform is presented. The detection scheme that combines TH transform and Hough transform is referred to as Teager-Huang-Hough (THH) transform. The input signal is mapped into the time-frequency plane by using TH transform followed by the application of Hough transform to recognize time-frequency components. LFM components are detected and their parameters are estimated from peaks and their locations in the Hough space. Advantages of THH transform over Hough transform of Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) are: 1) cross-terms free detection and estimation, and 2) good time and frequency resolutions. No assumptions are made about the number of components of the LFM signals and their models. THH transform is illustrated on multicomponent LFM signals in free and noisy environments and the results compared with WVD-Hough and pseudo-WVD-Hough transforms

The female holotype was collected from Yulongxueshan whilst the male paratypes were collected from Ludian, thus the association of male and female requires a confirmation from more material. In a recent expedition made by the first author, specimens of both sexes were collected from both localities. An examination of male and female genitalia proved the original association of male and female to be correct. Distribution. Traces and shards of self-injury: Strange accounting with “Author X”

    No full text
In this strange account autoethnography, three or four authors explore their lived experiences with self-injury. Strange accounting is both a post-modern style of text, and a method for keeping identities concealed when risks and secrets are in play. Author X, a post-modern place-keeper for an anonymous author who may or may not have contributed to this manuscript, introduces a new dimension and layer of concealment. With Author X in-play and under erasure, the reader will never be sure if there were three or four authors on this manuscript. Through strange accounting, a post-structuralist/postmodernist frame will be applied to understanding the self-injury experience. We frame self-injury as a social practice and, for some, an everyday norm, while remaining acutely aware of the stigma surrounding the topic of self-injury. Each of us, coupled with Author X, provide the others cover to trace stories of self-injury through the literature, our flesh, and our lives

High energy and high intensity electron and X-ray beams by pyroelectric effect

The production of x-rays has been a useful technique in many areas of science, medicine and various industries for over 100 years. Over this time various new methods of generating x-rays have been produced, allowing improved performance in existing applications as well as the application of x-rays in new areas. In this project a novel method of electron beam production, with the potential for development into a novel method of x-ray production is presented, using both pyroelectric and ferroelectric materials. The pyroelectric e ect, i.e. the generation of a charge due to a change in temperature is an e ect exhibited by certain dielectric materials. This e ect has previously been used in x-ray generation, and has been su ently successful that a commercial device has been produced: the Amptek Cool-X. While the Cool-X has only a limited electron / x-ray energy, high energy applications of this technology are present in the literature. This shows that these materials are capable of high voltages. However, the technique is not suitable for high beam intensity applications, limiting the potential use of pyroelectric x-ray devices. Ferroelectric electron emission is a technique used to generate elec- tron beams by applying a high voltage pulse to a specially prepared cathode. This technique has shown great potential for very high intensity pulsed electron beam generation. The major drawback of this technique is that while the cathodes are relitivly cheap and easy to produce, the other required equipment (such as high vacuum systems and high voltage pulse generators) is typically large and expensive. This project combines these two technologies to create an electron beam generation system that exhibits many of the ad- vantages of each technology, while minimizing the drawbacks. The result is a device using pyroelectric materials as voltage generatingelements for electron acceleration and high voltage pulse production, while a ferroelectric cathode is employed as the electron generating element. This system has been shown to, depending on con guation, be capable of accelerating voltages above 5 kV, and generating total collected charges of more than -40 nC per pulse
