    Metadata Representations for Queryable ML Model Zoos

    Machine learning (ML) practitioners and organizations are building model zoos of pre-trained models, containing metadata describing properties of the ML models and datasets that are useful for reporting, auditing, reproducibility, and interpretability purposes. The metatada is currently not standardised; its expressivity is limited; and there is no interoperable way to store and query it. Consequently, model search, reuse, comparison, and composition are hindered.     Optimizing ML Inference Queries Under Constraints

    The proliferation of pre-trained ML models in public Web-based model zoos facilitates the engineering of ML pipelines to address complex inference queries over datasets and streams of unstructured content. Constructing optimal plan for a query is hard, especially when constraints (e.g. accuracy or execution time) must be taken into consideration, and the complexity of the inference query increases. To address this issue, we propose a method for optimizing ML inference queries that selects the most suitable ML models to use, as well as the order in which those models are executed. We formally define the constraint-based ML inference query optimization problem, formulate it as a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) problem, and develop an optimizer that maximizes accuracy given constraints.     Building a generalisable ML pipeline at ING

    Advances in data science have caused an increase in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically Machine Learning (ML), throughout various fields. Not only in research but in the industry as well, has ML been receiving increasing amounts of interest. Many companies rely on ML models to increase the efficiency of existing processes or offer new services and products. The industry, however, is facing several additional challenges compared to the academic context. One of those challenges is applying the Development Operations (DevOps) model to an ML application, also referred to as MLOps. This thesis sets out to find the specific challenges that practitioners encounter while operationalising ML models. To do so, we perform a single-case case study on an ML pipeline built by the Trade & Communication Surveillance team at the ING bank. This case study consists of conducting a set of interviews and performing a manual code inspection of the pipeline. The team faces challenges ranging from having insufficient time for operationalising each ML project individually to operating in the highlyregulated fintech context. Their pipeline is able to deploy a single ML model but it does not generalise well to other projects. We present the first version of an application that mitigates these challenges. The application is able to deploy ML models to the development environment at ING and can be operated by data scientists to reduce the effort of operationalising an ML model.     Evaluation of the Antioxidant Activities of Ya-hom Intajak, a Thai Herbal Formulation, and its Component Plants

    Purpose: To evaluate the antioxidant effect of 80 % ethanol extract and its n-hexane and dichloromethane fractions of Ya-hom Intajak, and its 47 medicinal plants components.Methods: The 80 % ethanol extract and its n-hexane and dichloromethane fractions were investigated on human low-density lipoprotein (LDL)  peroxidation by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) assay. Antioxidant effect was also determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays.Results: The extract of Ya-hom Intajak exhibited moderate DPPH  scavenging activity with an IC50 value of 99.08 µg/ml and a FRAP value of 1.12 mmol FeSO4/g. Among the individual plants, Terminalia chebula Retz., Caesalpinia sappan L., Cinnamomum bejolghota (Buch.-Ham.) and Ci. verum J. Presl, showed strong antioxidant activities. T. chebula was the most potent plant in the DPPH assay while Ca. sappan had the highest FRAP value. Among the extracts, the dichloromethane fraction showed the highest inhibitory effect on LDL peroxidation with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value comparable to that of probucol (0.82 µg/ml). Pearson correlation analysis revealed that total phenolic content (TPC) showed high positive correlations with FRAP (r = 0.908, p < 0.01) and DPPH activities (r= 0.648, p < 0.01).Conclusion: Ya-hom Intajak is a valuable source of natural antioxidants and has a potential application as a cardiovascular protective formulation.Keywords: Ya-hom Intajak, Antioxidant activity, Terminalia chebula Retz., Caesalpinia sappan L., Cinnamomum bejolghota (Buch.-Ham.), Ci. verum J.     'Project smells' - Experiences in Analysing the Software Quality of ML Projects with mllint

    Machine Learning (ML) projects incur novel challenges in their development and productionisation over traditional software applications, though established principles and best practices in ensuring the project's software quality still apply. While using static analysis to catch code smells has been shown to improve software quality attributes, it is only a small piece of the software quality puzzle, especially in the case of ML projects given their additional challenges and lower degree of Software Engineering (SE) experience in the data scientists that develop them. We introduce the novel concept of project smells which consider deficits in project management as a more holistic perspective on software quality in ML projects. An open-source static analysis tool mllint was also implemented to help detect and mitigate these. Our research evaluates this novel concept of project smells in the industrial context of ING, a global bank and large software- and data-intensive organisation. We also investigate the perceived importance of these project smells for proof-of-concept versus production-ready ML projects, as well as the perceived obstructions and benefits to using static analysis tools such as mllint. Our findings indicate a need for context-aware static analysis tools, that fit the needs of the project at its current stage of development, while requiring minimal configuration effort from the user. Gerhard’s electronic music is one of the richest repositories for understanding the development of the composer’s late compositional technique. Apart from the Symphony no.3, ‘Collages’, none of Gerhard’s electronic music is published. Para tanto, realizou-se um levantamento descritivo bibliográfico sobre o histórico da ilha, atividade turística, marketing turístico e estratégias de marketing, entrevistas não-estruturadas e conversação. A seguir foi feito um apanhado geral do turismo Santomense, bem como a situação em que a ilha se encontra, se está apta para a recepção de turistas e, como tal, pelo seu histórico, necessário muito investimento nela, principalmente quanto à infra-estrutura em geral, saneamento básico e equipamentos apropriados aos tipos de turismo identificados na ilha: turismo de praia e sol, turismo desportivo, turismo de aventura e ecoturismo. Entre os resultados obtidos por este estudo, encontram-se estratégias de marketing que a empresa faz para a atração de turistas, diante das ações que o governo empreende para a dinamização do setor na ilha. Para a ilha de São Tomé se tornar atraente para esse mercado, é preciso preparar a população local para a recepção de turistas, apesar da população ser acolhedora, porém nas fazendas deveria haver mais trabalhos educacionais para esta área, bem como outras ações estratégicas que possam definir e aumentar o fluxo turístico na ilha

    Effect of pH on growth and indigo coloring quality of Hom (Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees.) Bremek.) at Phrae Province

    The study on effect of pH value on the indigo color quality of Hom (Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees.) Bremek) was done in Phrae province. The objective was to determine the initial pH of the soil to the growth and color quality of the Hom. We have measured the initial and final growth of plants in different pH of potting soils and the color quality. The results showed that suitability adjusted pH at 4.5 with average soil moisture content (96.25 %) and exposure in the greenhouse was 70% (101.87) had high supported on maximum growth. The increased growth was detected in most plant parts, stem height (10.66 cm), root length (5.16 cm), number of branches (1.66 branches), and number of leaf (15 leaves). While, the treatment without pH adjustment provided the standard color quality of Hom which express by values of L* (21.38), a* (-3.18), and b* (-5.93). Value of L* indicating the color lightness with yield to dark color when closed to 0, while, -a* and -b* expressed the green and blue color, respectively. The amount of leuco-indigo was 88.53 ?ml, High leuco-indico indicating the efficiency of the color absorption in the fabric. However, pH adjustment to 4.5 also provided a standard color quality, even though, less than without pH adjustment which varied values were found, L* (28.34), a* (-4.83), b* (-3.09), and leuco-indigo (77.20 ?ml). Indicating Hom can be used to solve the acid soil problem. Then, the communities will get the benefit from cultivating which contributes to economic development and development into community enterprise groups in the future

    Exploring Potential Antimalarial Candidate from Medicinal Plants of Kheaw Hom Remedy

    The Kheaw Hom remedy is a traditional Thai medicine widely used to treat fevers. Some plant ingredients in this remedy have been investigated for their antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. However, there have been no reports on the antimalarial activities of the medicinal plants in this remedy. Therefore, this study focuses on identifying potential antimalarial drug candidates from the medicinal plant ingredients of the Kheaw Hom remedy. Eighteen plants from the Kheaw Hom remedy were extracted using distilled water and ethanol. All extracts were investigated for their in vitro antimalarial activity and cytotoxicity. An extract that exhibited good in vitro antimalarial activity and low toxicity was selected for further investigation by using Peter’s 4-day suppressive test and an acute oral toxicity evaluation in mice. Based on the in vitro antimalarial activity and cytotoxicity studies, the ethanolic extract of Globba malaccensis rhizomes showed promising antimalarial activity against the Plasmodium falciparum K1 strain (IC50 = 1.50 µg/mL) with less toxicity to Vero cells (CC50 of >80 µg/mL). This extract exhibited a significant dose-dependent reduction in parasitemia in P. berghei-infected mice. The maximum suppressive effect of this extract (60.53%) was observed at the highest dose administered (600 mg/kg). In a single-dose acute toxicity test, the animals treated at 2000 mg/kg died within 48 h after extract administration. In conclusion, our study indicates that the ethanolic extract of G. malaccensis rhizomes exhibited in vitro and in vivo antimalarial activities, which could serve as a promising starting point for antimalarial drug
