    Enhanced low dose rate effect of the NMRC RADFETs

    학위논문(박사) - 한국과학기술원 : 물리학과, 2008.2, [ viii, 77 p ]RADiation sensitive Field Efect Transistors (RADFETs)은 우주 방사선 환경을 관찰하는 데에 널리 사용되어 왔따. 이를 사용하는 데에 있어 가장 중요한 가정 중의 하나는 그 문턱 전압이 조사율에는 무관하며, 조사량에만 영향을 받는다는 가정이다. 우주 방사선 환경의 조사율을 그대로 지상에서 재현하기는 불가능하기 때문이다. 반면, 최근에 지상에서 STSAT-2호 위성에 탑재되었던 National Microelectronics Research Centre (NMRC)사의 RADFET을 이용하여 실험을 하던 도중 Enhanced Low Dose Rate Effect (ELDRE)가 발견되었다. 본 논문은 NMRC RADFETs의 ELDRE를 60Co^{60}\textrm{Co}γ\gamma-ray 소스로 이용하여 분석하였다. 첫째, 조사율 조건은 다음과 같다. 4.5 Gy(Si)/hr, 9 Gy(Si)/hr, and 45 Gy(Si)/hr의 조사율을 이용하여 총 45 Gy(Si)의 조사량을 조사시켰다. 이 실험 결과 ELDRE가 확실하게 관찰되었으며 약 8일간의 상온 회복을 거친 후에도 그 차이가 존재하는 것으로 보아 일시적인 현상이 아닌 영구적인 차이로 판단되었다. 45 Gy(Si)/hr 실험과, 90 Gy(Si)/hr 실험에서는 관찰되지 않는 것으로 보아 ELDRE는 낮은 조사율에서만 발생하는 것으로 판단된다. 또, 조사량에 대한 의존도를 보기 위하여 두 가지 방법으로 실험을 수행하였다. (1) ELDRE가 발견되었던 조사율로 조사량을 늘리는 방법과 (2) 일정량을 조사한 후 갑자기 조사율을 변경시키는 방법이다. 그 결과 \sim 90 Gy(Si) 이상의 조사량에서는 ELDRE가 관찰되지 않았다. 소자에 대한 의존도를 보기 위하여 상용 소자를 이용했으나, ELDRE가 관찰되지 않았으므로, 소자에 대한 의존도 역시 확인되었다. 이 결과는 tunneling front theory를 이용하여 분석한 결과 SiO2_2 안쪽 영역에서 ELDRE가 발생한 것으로 결론을 내릴 수 있었으며, Si 와 SiO2_2 경계면 사이에서 보다 trap density가 낮은 것으로 확인되었다.한국과학기술원 : 물리학과

    Deciphering the Specific High-Affinity Binding of Cucurbit[7]uril to Amino Acids in Water

    This work presents a systematic study on the host-guest interactions between the macrocyclic host molecule cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) and amino acids (AAs) including three basic AAs (Lys, Arg, and His) and three aromatic AAs (Phe, Tyr, and Trp) to elucidate the origin of the high selectivity of CB[7] toward AA residues in proteins. Complex formation between CB[7] and each AA was examined in solution (by isothermal titration calorimetry and NMR) as well as in the gas phase (by ion mobility mass spectrometry and collision-induced dissociation), and the results were further combined with computational investigations. Generally, the aromatic AAs show higher binding affinities than the basic AAs in buffer solutions with various pH values. On the contrary, the gas-phase stabilities of the basic AA complex ions are higher than those of the aromatic AA complex ions, suggesting that the direct ion-dipole interactions between the charged side chains of the basic AAs and the polar carbonyl groups of CB[7] predominate in the absence of water. The ion-dipole interactions are less significant in water, since the original interactions of the guests with water are lost upon complex formation. In contrast, the transfer of the hydrophobic groups from the bulk into the hydrophobic CB[7] cavity suffers less from the desolvation penalty, resulting in higher binding affinities in water. Therefore, initial guest solvation is another key factor which should be considered when designing high-affinity host-guest systems, in addition to the contribution from the release of high-energy water molecules from the CB[7] cavity (J.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
