Die Reform des Medizinstudiums an der Medizinischen Fakultät/Universität Graz
No full textDas traditionelle fächerorientierte Rigorosenstudium Medizin wurde durch eine tief greifende Reform in ein modernes, modular aufgebautes und themenzentriertes Diplomstudium transformiert. Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über den gesamten Prozess dieser Umwandlung - von der Initiierung über die Planung bis zur letzten Endes erfolgreichen Umsetzung. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf die zahlreichen Hemmnisse, die einer so gravierenden Reform entgegen stehen, und auf die wesentlichen Erfolgsfaktoren des erforderlichen Change Managements zur Überwindung dieser - eigentlich erwartbaren - Probleme gelegt.

No full textAuf Grund einer von EU-Vorgaben geänderten Gesetzeslage, die die österreichischen Universitäten für alle EU-Länder öffnete, war man in der Studienrichtung Humanmedizin mit etwa 3.000 Studieninteressierten konfrontiert. Da ein herkömmlicher Präsenzunterricht nicht möglich war, wurde das Eingangssemester rein virtuell über das Internet abgehalten und mit einer Reihungsprüfung abgeschlossen. Die virtuelle Präsentation stützte sich auf Visualisierungsobjekte, interaktive Computer-based Training-Lernobjekte und Lehrbuchverweise sowie Animationen und Videoclips. Die Nutzungsdaten zeigten 850.000 Zugriffe auf Lernobjekte im Semester, 257.000 formalisierte Rückmeldungen und 724 veröffentlichte Anfrage-Interaktionen mit Lehrenden. Die Prüfungsergebnisse waren etwas schlechter als in früheren Jahren, wobei die Erfolgsquote der einzelnen Fragen signifikant von der Intensität der elektronischen Aufbereitung abhing. Die Evaluierung ergab eine hohe Akzeptanz der Computer-based Training-Lernobjekte, dagegen aber einen deutlichen Wunsch nach Unterstützung durch Präsenzunterricht und nach Durchführung eines Auswahlverfahrens vor Beginn des Studiums. No full textParallel with the initiation of an integrated curriculum at the Medical University of Graz a virtual learning environment was implemented, designated as Virtual Medical Campus (VMC). Several financial support projects made the development of the VMC and its enhancements possible. Learning objects are granular and strictly equipped with a set of metadata conforming the SCORM 2004 2nd edition-standard and are therefore reusable and exchangeable with other study courses or e-Learning-systems. Simple usability allows authors the intuitive creation of content, which may be enriched with interactive and tutorial systems using several built in authoring tools like web-based-training or a Virtual Microscope. In 2005 more than 3300 students applied for human medicine at the Medical University of Graz and it was decided to give a virtual term with a selection process at the end of it.More than 1 million accesses to learning objects and 257,000 web-based-trainings were handled without a single breakdown. This unique interim solution of a virtual term demonstrated the capacity of the VMC-system and the organisational possibility to intercept rushes of application using e-Learning. In the meanwhile the VMC Graz provides 13 study courses at four universities in two different European countries and two international postgraduate programs. Speaking on Sex/Gender in a Non-dualizing Way: Preliminary Remarks
No full textThe article analyzes Judith Butlers discourse on sex/gender and refers to the philosophical concept of the non-dualizing mode of speaking proposed by the Austrian philosopher Josef Mitterer. In the opinion of the author, Butler non-intentionally seems to use the non-dualizing rhetoric when discussing sex/gender differentiation, especially when she considers the performative understanding of gender. According to the non-dualizing logic, there is no difference between sex and gender for both are the product of social and cultural practices. Sex, gender, femininity are notions which are not stable, constant and coherent. They cannot be treated as objective and independent from the discourse.
