Remote Sensing in Hydrology and Water Resources Management

No full text
Water resources are the most valuable resources of sustainable socio-economic development, which is significantly affected by climate change and human activities. Water resources assessment is an urgent need for implementation of the perfect water resources management, but it is difficult to accurately evaluate the quantity and quality of water resources, especially in arid regions and high-altitude regions with sparse gauged data. This book hosts 24 papers devoted to remote sensing in hydrology and water resources management, which summarizes the recent advancement in remote sensing technology for hydrology analysis such as satellite remote sensing for water resources management, water quality monitoring and evaluation using remote sensing data, remote sensing for detecting the global impact of climate extremes, the use of remote sensing data for improved calibration of hydrological models, and so on. In general, the book will contribute to promote the application of remote sensing technology in water resources

A Wearable Electrochemical Sensor Based on a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Integrated with a Copper Benzene-1,3,5-Tricarboxylate Metal-Organic Framework for the On-Body Monitoring of Cortisol in Sweat

Owing to their potential to transform traditional medical diagnostics and health monitoring, wearable biosensors have become an alternative evolutionary technology in the field of medical care. However, it is still necessary to overcome some key technique challenges, such as the selectivity, sensitivity, and stability of biometric identification. Herein, a novel, wearable electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) integrated with a copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate metal–organic framework (MOF) was designed for the detection of stress through the on-body monitoring of cortisol in sweat. The MOF was used as the substrate for MIP deposition to enhance the stability and sensitivity of the sensor. The sensor consisted of two layers, with a microfluidic layer as the top layer for spontaneous sweating and a modified electrode as the bottom layer for sensing. The sensor measured cortisol levels by detecting the current change that occurred when the target molecules bound to the imprinted cavities, using Prussian blue nanoparticles embedded in the MIP framework as the REDOX probe. The proposed sensor exhibited a linear detection range of 0.01–1000 nM with a detection limit of 0.0027 nM, and favorable specificity over other analogies. This facile anti-body free sensor showed excellent stability, and can be successfully applied for in situ cortisol monitoring

The function of histone methyltransferase SETDB1 and its roles in liver cancer

Epigenetic alterations in gene expression have been implicated in cancer development and tumor immune escape, with posttranslational histone or non-histone modifications representing attractive targets for disease surveillance and therapy. SET domain bifurcated 1 (SETDB1) is a histone lysine methyltransferase that reversibly catalyzes the di- and tri-methylation of histone 3 lysine 9 (H3K9) on euchromatin, inhibiting gene transcription within these regions and facilitating the switch from euchromatic to heterochromatic states. Emerging evidence suggests that SETDB1 amplification and aberrant activation are significantly associated with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and contribute to HCC development, immune escape, and immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) resistance. Here, we provide an updated overview of the cellular and molecular effects of SETDB1 activity in hepatocarcinogenesis and progression and focus on studies linking its function to immunotherapy for HCC, and present current challenges and future perspectives for targeting SETDB1 in HCC treatment

“轻”之观念:新芽体系的人本内涵与衍生启示

This paper reviews the development of New-Bud System, analyzes the humanistic connotation of“light-weight”comparing with Japanese architect Shigeru’s similar practices, and interprets New-Bud’s construction concept based on humanism and its “autonomic, evolving, derivative”systematic vitality. The concept and pursuit of“light-weight for construction”will also indicate more pluralistic possibilities and follow-ups for the marginal expansion and transformation of architecture.History, Form & Aesthetic

An Integrated Mode Study on College English Teaching of Listening and Speaking: Based on Output-driven, Input-enabled Hypothesis

No full text
This paper discusses how college English teaching of listening and speaking can be carried out based on the output-driven, input-enabled hypothesis. The author probes into an integrated teaching mode from the following four aspects, including the change of teacher’s role, the applicability of teaching activity, the cultivation of student’s comprehensive ability to apply language and the objective and effective combination of summative assessment and process assessment. In teaching process, the teacher should be aware of the close interaction between listening and speaking, the stimulation of critical thinking and the importance of culture teaching
