He obtained his BS and PhD degrees from Peking University and the University of Chicago, respectively. Before joining HKUST, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Technology. His primary research interests include protein engineering, synthetic biology, and biomaterials. Chuan He is currently the John T. Wilson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Chicago. His research interests include topics in chemical biology, bioinorganic chemistry, and protein engineering.</p
The Effects of Tai Chi Chuan on Health
No full textabstract: Tai Chi Chuan is an internal Chinese martial arts that practitioners believe provide will provide health benefits. This thesis attempts to summarize and analyze scientific studies that test Tai Chi Chuan as a therapeutic exercise. Systemic reviews and meta-analysis were included were based on the following criteria: studied Tai Chi Chuan in context of a specific disease, must include random control trials, and statistical analysis. Overall, Tai Chi Chuan studies portray the martial art as a low intensity exercise with numerous health benefits in pain management, emotional health, fall prevention, cardiopulmonary and cognitive function

Through the process of analysis and comparison, Constructing the system of Chuan-Shan\ue2s \ue2Shen hua\ue2 thoughts, this thesis summarizes the basic elements of Chuan-Shan\ue2s \ue2Shen hua\ue2 thought, which include: \ue2Chien Shun Chih Shen\ue2 (\ue5\ua5\ue9\ua0\ue4\ub9\ue7\ua5), full and pureness (\ue8\ub3\ue8\ub6\ub3\ue8\ub3\ue7\ub4\ue4\ub9\ue7\ue6\ub8), simplicity of Qian and Qun, \ue2Tai hsu\ue2 (\ue5\ua4\uaa\ue8), \ue2supreme harmony\ue2 (\ue5\ua4\uaa\ue5) and the celestial sphere (\ue6\ub8\ube\ue5\ua4\ua9). He is highly reputed to have arranged and classified ancient writings of China from his own viewpoint, and elucidated the nature and value of individual works. Among a number of his characteristic writings is Lieh-nü-chuan (『列女傳』), which is valued as the first biography of women in China. He first classified women's ways of life into seven patterns, and then culled relevant biographies chiefly from Chun-chiu tso-shih-chuan (『春秋左氏傳』) and Shih-chi (『史記』), arranging them in chronological order. The present article forms the first part of notes and commentary on 'Nie-bi-chuan (「孼嬖傳」)', which collects the lives of those women who ruined both their families and nation by their way of life surpassing that of men
