Poetry as a type of literary work, apart from using beautiful and dense language in its structure, is also able to represent the social conditions of society at a certain time. The method chosen by researcher in this research is descriptive-qualitative method. Meanwhile, the approach used to analyze poetry is the sociological approach of literature, especially literature as a representation of society. Based on the results of the discussion, the authors in this study found a picture of Egyptian goverment contained in the anthologyKȃnat Lanȃ Authȃnby Faruq Juwaidah, as (1) Egyptian Government is described as an authoritariangovernment, (2) unfair to the Egyptian people (3) more in favor to the West, (4) Faruq as the Egyptian people criticizes this behavior, and (5) invite the government and the people to love and oriented to Egypt even though in a a simple life

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to reveal the full meaning of a poem. The object of material being studied is a poem entitled Ḥanȋn by Faruq Juwaidah which is a part of the anthology Law Annanȃ Lam Naftariq. The method used in this research is descriptive-analytical method with the Riffaterre semiotic approach. Riffaterre offers stages to understand the integrity of the meaning of a poem, namely through heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, determining models, variants and matrices, and determining the hypogram. The results showed that the meaning of longing as meant by poets in Ḥanȋn's poetry is longing for the hometown or the country of origin as an attitude of love for the country. Apart from that, Faruq's theme in this poem is different from his usual theme, namely love and romance. The matrix in this poem is the fulfillment of physiological needs (shelter) in Abraham Maslow's Humanistic psychology discourse

This study aims to reveal the intertextual found between al-Ḥallāj’s poem (qaṣīdah) and Faruq Juwaidah’s wa Tāba al-Qalb poem. In this case, it refers to the basic assumption of intertext studies, namely that the texts or works that appear today are inseparable from the influence and role of the works that previously existed long before. Furthermore, in intertextual studies, old works that are used as a reference in making new works are called hypograms, while new works written by new authors that appear later are called transformational works. The method in this research is using descriptive analysis method. While the approach used is intertextual. Based on the results of the intertextual analysis conducted by researcher on qaṣīdah al-Ḥallāj and wa-Tāba al-Qalb poem, the researchers found (1) wa-Tāba al-Qalb poem is a form of transformation of qaṣīdah al-Ḥallāj, (2) wa-Tāba al-Qalb poem is the response from qaṣīdah al-Ḥallāj. The results of this study indicate that the impact or influence of old literary works on those that emerged later was very strong. This study aims to reveal the intertextual found between al-Ḥallāj’s poem (qaṣīdah) and Faruq Juwaidah’s wa Tāba al-Qalb poem. Abstract: This study aims to describe the types of repetition language styles contained in Surah Al-Jin, verse 1 to verse 28. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative method. Because the expected results are not in the form of numbers, but in the form of a descriptive presentation. The approach used is a stylistic approach, especially the style of repetition or repetition of Gorys Keraf\u27s perspective. The results showed that there are five types of repetition language styles contained in Surah Al-Jin, namely anaphora, epistropha, mesodiplosis, epizeuksis and tautotes. Among the five types, the most widely used are anaphora, epistropha and tautotes repetition types. For the use of the type of mesodiplosis, only found a few times. This study is expected to be able to add to the treasures of stylistic scholarship, especially examining the suras in the Qur\u27an from the aspect of using the style of repetition or tikrr from the perspective of Gorys Keraf

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
