A Haris (Crex crex) állományának vizsgálata az Aggteleki Nemzeti Park területén

    No full text
A haris 1971-ig még a vadászható fajok közé tartozott Magyarországon, az elmúlt évtizedekben állománya azonban olyan mértékben lecsökkent, hogy komoly természetvédelmi problémaként kezelendő. Számuk drasztikus csökkenése elsősorban a mezőgazdaság egyre nagyobb ütemű gépesítésének köszönhető, a haris legnagyobb ellensége a kaszálás, hiszen alapvetően réteken és kaszálókon él, fészekalját is ott neveli. A hatóságok a haris élőhelyein éppen ezért július 31-ig tiltja a kaszálást.

The nexus of nationalism and egalitarianism in populist narratives and value orientations in Serbia in the 21st century

In the seventh chapter, Mladen Radulović and Haris Dajč examine the connection between nationalism and egalitarianism in populist narratives and value orientations in Serbia in the 21st century. Using a triangulation of different methods, the authors manage to detect how nationalism and egalitarianism, both as messages (from above) and as value orientations (from below), have shaped the modern political life of Serbia. They analyse nationalism and egalitarianism in the political messages of the two parties that won the most votes in parliamentary elections since 2000 and use data gathered during the past 20 years in the World Values Survey and European Values Study. The authors successfully explain the longue durée of nationalism and egalitarianism in Serbian society since the 19th century

Inspired by the philosophical legacy of Deleuze and Guattari, Kalaitzidis constructs a queer mythistory, transforming gendered bodies into war machines in a perhaps futile quest for that thread linking gendered experience with the dream of embodied emancipation. Through the podcast, we discuss erotic desire, the boundaries between desire, ideology, and heteronormativity, as well as the expectations of liberation against the backdrop of a dystopian world that is approaching Link (Spotify): Podcast#1.2:

Base calling for high-throughput short-read sequencing: dynamic programming solutions

Shreepriya Das and Haris Vikalo are with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas 78712, USABackground: Next-generation DNA sequencing platforms are capable of generating millions of reads in a matter of days at rapidly reducing costs. Despite its proliferation and technological improvements, the performance of next-generation sequencing remains adversely affected by the imperfections in the underlying biochemical and signal acquisition procedures. To this end, various techniques, including statistical methods, are used to improve read lengths and accuracy of these systems. Development of high performing base calling algorithms that are computationally efficient and scalable is an ongoing challenge. Results: We develop model-based statistical methods for fast and accurate base calling in Illumina’s next-generation sequencing platforms. In particular, we propose a computationally tractable parametric model which enables dynamic programming formulation of the base calling problem. Forward-backward and soft-output Viterbi algorithms are developed, and their performance and complexity are investigated and compared with the existing state-of-the-art base calling methods for this platform. A C code implementation of our algorithm named Softy can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/dynamicprog webcite. Conclusions: We demonstrate high accuracy and speed of the proposed methods on reads obtained using Illumina’s Genome Analyzer II and HiSeq2000. In addition to performing reliable and fast base calling, the developed algorithms enable incorporation of prior knowledge which can be utilized for parameter estimation and is potentially beneficial in various downstream applications.Electrical and Computer [email protected]

Snap ML - Accelerated Machine Learning for Big Data (Keynote Abstract)

    No full text
Snap Machine Learning (Snap ML) is a new software library for training popular machine learning models, characterized by very high performance, scalability to TB-scale datasets and high resource efficiency. It continuously evolves and currently supports generalized linear models, decision trees, random forests and gradient boosting machines. Snap ML has been built to address the needs of business applications, which often have to deal with high-volume data, react fast to changing environments, and use resources efficiently to drive down cost. The high efficiency of Snap ML, in particular in dealing with big data, comes from innovations in distributed optimization, among other things. This talk will review the principles of the Snap ML library, explain how it achieves high speed and scalability, and present several cases of business workloads that demonstrate the benefits offered by Snap ML.
