Edwin Doddy Setiawan, 2017, NIT : 49124319.N, “Prevention of Dragging Anchor When at Anchor in Shanghai Strait on MV.NYK Lyra”, mini thesis of Nautical Study Program, Fourth Diploma Program, Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnic, Supervisor I: Capt. Agus Hadi Purwantomo, M.Mar., Supervisor II: H. Rahyono, Sp.1, M.M., M.Mar.E. In at anchor often encountered some problems, one of it which is the dragging anchor to lead the ship ran aground and suffered a collision, so that to overcome and prevent that happening, one of the way is to increase the holding power of the chain jangkar, therefore to increase the knowledge and understanding about dragging anchor on the container ship, the author tries to analyze and get the problem as follows: (1) what is the cause of dragging anchor when at anchor in Shanghai Strait on MV. NYK LYRA?, (2) how the prevention of dragging anchor when at anchor in Shanghai Strait on MV. NYK LYRA?. Present different references that support the theory about the cause of dragging anchor on container ships, as well as efforts to prevent dragging anchor. The method used by the author in delivering the problem is qualitative method to illustrate and describe the object under study. Based on how to obtain it, will present the data obtained in a descriptive or create a picture of the situation or event based on the data that is accurate and has a close relationship between the researcher and the researched. The authors concluded that the cause of dragging anchor when at anchor in Shanghai strait on MV. NYK Lyra is due to seabed anchors do not grip properly and anchor chains that have rusted and faded colors could cause errors determines the length of chain that had been in the water, resulting in a lack of holding power that causes the dragging anchor. And prevention of dragging anchor when at anchor in Shanghai strait on MV. NYK Lyra is to loose extra anchor chain to increase holding power (traction), if still dragging lower the other anchor. If necessary, use the main engines and combine with steering the ship to detain the ship from dragging. Keywords : dragging anchor, holding power, strai

The research aims at examining market reaction to CEO turnover announcements. The samples of the research consist of 59 CEO turnover announcements during 1992-2003periods. The author use security returns variance to examine information content of CEOturnover announcement. Friedman and Singh (1989) argue that contextual factorsmoderating the market reaction to the CEO turnover announcements. Therefore the authorconsidering two factors: the succession process and the origin of incoming CEO. The authordivide sample based on the succession process: routine and non-routine, and the origin ofincoming CEO: inside and outside firm. In the analyses process we observe market reactionto: (1) all sample of CEO turnover announcement, (2) routine CEO turnover, (3) non-routineCEO turnover, (4) inside CEO turnover, (5) outside CEO turnover, (6) routine inside CEOturnover, (7) routine outside CEO turnover, (8) non-routine inside turnover, (9) non-routineoutside turnover. The results from security return variance test shows that there areindifference variance returns to all sample, routine turnover, nonroutine turnover, insideCEO, outside CEO. When the author combines the contextual factor, he find market alsodoes not reacts to: (1) non-routine process turnover and incoming CEO come from insideand (2) routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from outside. But, there areinformation content from: (1) routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from insideand (2) non-routine process turnover and incoming CEO comes from outside. These resultshows that market react to smooth process succession (routine inside CEO turnover) becauseit can reduce uncertainty and incoming CEO tend to follow previous CEO strategy. Ifsuccession process is non-routine market prefer to candidate from outside because he willbring a different strategy

This paper investigates market reaction analysis to CEO turnover announcement in Indonesia. We are considering the succession factors: (1) the origin of successor (inside/outside firm) and (2) the process of succession (routine/non-routine). This paper aims to examine the market reaction of CEO turnover announcements. The samples consist of 59 firms from 1992 to 2003 and there was a t-test use to examining information content of CEO turnover announcements. The results show that market reacts positively to all CEO turnover announcements. The examination of the effects of succession process shows that market react positively to routine change, but do not react to non-routine change. Market also reacts positively to succession that leads inside candidate become a CEO, but the market give a mixed reaction when the successor come from outside firm. When the author combines the succession factors, we find the interesting result that market reacts favorably (positive) to routine change that leads the candidate from inside firm become a CEO. But market reacts unfavorably (negative) to routine change that leads candidate from outside become CEO. That’s mean the Indonesian investor prefer the smooth process in the succession, and they can reduce the uncertainty. Therefore we conclude that CEO turnover announcements have information content

this study examines the ability of university selected librarians to produce translation: changing an original written text (the source text – ST) in the English language (the source language – SL) into a written text (the target text – TT) in the Indonesian language (the target language – TL). The text translated is a scholarly journal article in the field of Psychology. An analysis of the research literature in translation and translating (Nida, 1964, 1974, 1976, 2001; Baker, 1992; Robinson, 2001; Munday, 2001; Nababan, 2003; Baorong, 2009) with regard to translations produced by the librarians was set out. To examine the translations produced, three questions guided the inquiry: how closely did the librarians preserve the meaning and quality of the original text?; which translation methods were used to achieve relative equivalences?; what problems did the librarians encounter in translating the text? Two theories of translation, equivalence-based and skopos, are applied to discuss the inquiry. Translation quality assessment (House, 1997) and four types of translation errors (Nord, 1997) were used to examine the produced translations and their impact on the target readers. The study employed a qualitative research design, embracing characteristics of a case study. The data were collected from several sources: a participative observation, interviews and studied documents in the form of produced translations. The researcher tried to seek information about the translators’ profiles and abilities, the methods employed, the process of translating to achieve the equivalence, and the impact the translations have on the target readers. The researcher played the role as a key instrument of this qualitative case study research conducted in a natural setting. Less readable translations were found when the translators attempted to integrate altogether the texts they translated, the author’s ideas, the readership, and the cultural context in its various aspects. The informants as translators were unaware of text-type focus employed by the author and subsequently did not make the translation flawless. Inability to compare and transmit two different systems of the languages and cultures simultaneously was existent. The findings of this study revealed that the informants’ performance offers worth-investigating TTs. Over-wordy as the result of adding and, incompleteness as the result of removing some part from the original ST were due to the unawareness of the translators to achieve the acceptable TL. The analysis revealed that attempts of constructing target readers who might have significantly different textual expectations and cultural knowledge from the librarians’ end up with flawed equivalence. Based on these findings, it is recommended that although perfect and risk-free translation never exists, work aimed at possible betterment be due urged. Areas of linguistic contribution to this initial step could include techniques, competencies, relativity of soundness among different equivalences, cultural untranslatability, and contemporary theories

This research is a bibliometric study using Lotka's Law. Lotka's Law describes the frequency of publications by authors in a particular field. According to Lotka, there is an inverse relationship between the number of articles written and the number of authors who write articles, namely the more articles written, the fewer authors write them. This research aims to determine the pattern of writer productivity according to Lotka's law in the Edulib journal. The object of this research is articles in the Edulib journal with a publication period of 2011-2021. The data collection method in this research was carried out by documentation and then tabulated in table format using MS Excel. Article obtained from the page https://ejournal.upi.edu/index.php/edulib/issue/archive. The articles collected were 166 articles written by 206 different authors. In this research, the "Straight Count" technique was used, namely only the main author or first author was counted. Because there are 79 authors as second authors, the number of authors calculated is 127. The calculation results show that the parameter value n is 2.6895 and C is 0.7985. This means that in 2011-2021 the number of authors who contributed one article was 79.85% of the total number of authors. The results of this research also show that the largest number of author collaborations is five authors in producing one article. The author listed as the first author who was most productive in producing articles was Doddy Rusmono with a contribution of 6 articles

Global Inversion of Grounded Electric Source Time-domain Electromagnetic Data Using Particle Swarm Optimization

    Get PDF
Global optimization inversion of grounded wire time-domain electromagnetic (TDEM) data was implemented through application of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. This probabilistic approach is an alternative to the widely used deterministic local-optimization approach. In the PSO algorithm, each particle that constitutes the swarm epitomizes a probable geophysical model comprised by subsurface resistivity values at several layers and layer thicknesses. The forward formulation of the TDEM problem for calculating the vertical component of the induced magnetic field is first expressed in the Laplace domain. Transformation of the magnetic field from the Laplace domain into the time domain is performed by applying the Gaver-Stehfest numerical method. The implementation of PSO inversion to the TDEM problem is straightforward. It only requires adjustment of a few inversion parameters such as inertia, acceleration coefficients and numbers of iteration and particles. The PSO inversion scheme was tested on synthetic noise-free data and noisy synthetic data as well as to field data recorded in a volcanic-geothermal area. The results suggest that the PSO inversion scheme can effectively solve the TDEM 1D stratified earth problem.

Membrane fouling and fouling mitigation in oil–water separation: A review

    Get PDF
Oil–in–water emulsion separation is a challenging separation process in industries due to the large volumes of emulsified oil produced. Membrane technology has become more important in emulsified oil treatment due to its high separation efficiency and straightforward operational procedure. Up to now, microfiltration and ultrafiltration are the most utilized membrane processes for oil-in-water emulsion separation. However, the membrane for emulsified oil deals with several problems. The presence of flexible oil droplets creates a fouling tendency as well as a reduction in the overall rejection of the membrane. These phenomena have attracted researchers to develop antifouling strategies for membranes, including membrane materials engineering and membrane operational management. This review highlights the current progression of membrane used for oil-water separation started from membrane materials perspectives, followed by the discussion on fouling and fouling mitigation during oil-water separation. The review is concluded by future perspectives of membrane technology for oil-water separation
