What are digital English abbreviations? / Nor Haniza Hasan
Digital English abbreviations, also known as internet slang or online shorthand, are abbreviations and acronyms commonly used in digital communication, such as text messages, social media, instant messaging, and online forums. These abbreviations often save time, space, and keystrokes and convey emotions, tone, or emphasis
Student's guide: new sem prep / Nor Haniza Hasan
The start of the new academic year is quickly approaching. How many students are aware that it is important to ensure they are adequately prepared for a new semester? Among the preparations they should be ready for are daily timetable, budget planning, and syllabuses overviewing. Forming a timetable is a priority as it will aid the students to utilize their time efficiently throughout the semester. Class hours, studying, and leisure should be listed and sorted accordingly. Missing lectures and burning the midnight oil to do last-minute homework can be avoided since the students have proper planning on which activities they need to fulfill by the hour. Planning monthly budgeting is another preparation to be done. Students should list their essential and non-essential expenses. Therefore, they can adjust their allowance for spending and save some aside in case of emergencies. It also can prevent them from being spendthrift by spending the money on unnecessary items
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Managing people: reality and challenges / Nor Haniza Hasan
Managing people is never easy. That is an undying truth. The most difficult task is to change human’s habit and attitude. In an academic setting for example, there are people who are being lackadaisical in their critical routines like being tardy to work, careless in marking assessments, and consistently forgetful. This attitude will lead to conflicts in an organisation which can decrease productivity, loss of creativity and create a tensed atmosphere. As such, it is vital to address the elements in managing people at workplace. First and foremost, as mentioned earlier, human’s habit and attitude are known to be the most difficult challenge. This is because human beings by nature are unique. Their existence does not only base on their physical form which comprises the bones and muscles but in its real essence, it is the good heart that mainly determines the attitude of oneself that drives them to have good conscience indirectly. In fact, in all human religions mention the importance of having this element which is a good heart. Thus, the success of one to change his or her attitude will depend on his or her conscience
Customer satisfaction towards training course services provided by Institut Pengurusan Melaka (IMM) / Haniza Zawawi
Customer satisfaction has become an important issue for commercial and public service organization. The purpose of this research is to study the customer's satisfaction towards the training course services provided by Institut Pengurusan Melaka (IMM) and the factors that influence customer satisfaction. It also to give some recommendations that can help IMM to be more competitive and efficient. The research methodology used in this study was simple random sampling (SRS) technique where 50 respondents were chosen to answer the questionnaire besides on findings and data analysis, most of the customers are satisfied with the training course service provided by IMM. The factors that influence customer satisfaction are facilities during the training course factor and organizer management factor.
Other than that, the researcher is also able to give some recommendations and suggestions on how to improve and increase customer satisfaction of the customers after the analysis, findings and interpretation.
This study will help IMM to identify their weakneses in order to achieve 100% customer's satisfaction. The researcher hopes that this study could help this organization to overcome their problem so that they can maintain their established named as the training center in Melaka also in Malaysia
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
“The nobles”: a phenomenology of teachers teaching special children in Malaysian classrooms / Haniza Sarijari
This study is a phenomenological inquiry which seeks to understand the problems encountered by 8 teachers teaching special children at a school in Batu Pahat . The diversified children from different backgrounds and cultures make these teachers’ job even challenging. This is also the result of language incompetency which interferes the communication in the classroom. Therefore, a qualitative research was chosen to investigate the problems with the help of 8 interview sessions and 8 observations in different classes. Aggressive and passive behaviours were pointed out as the most disruptive conduct experienced by special education teachers. The inability of these children to function with language had caused the problem in managing the class particularly with the hyperactive ones. Knowing special children individually could help the teachers in understanding the reasons for such behaviour patterns. Parents are the most helpful resource to get the necessary information about these special children. Nevertheless, the lack of involvement from parents leads to the incapability to search for the most suitable method to deal with these particular children. Special education teachers as the participants of this study require full support from parents in order to provide effective learning environment that suits the needs of special children
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
