Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textABSTRAK Peran Pemberdayaan Istri Petani Dalam Meningkatan Pendapatan Ekonomi Keluarga Di Kampung Hanie Kecamatan Salahutu Kabupaten Maluku Tengah. Peranan istri dalam lingkungan rumah tangga meliputi kegiatan mulai dari mencuci, menyapu, memasak dan membersihkan rumah sampai mengurus anak dan suami. Pekerjaan ini tidak dihargai dengan uang, tetapi besar pengaruhnya terhadap pencapaian dalam meningkatkam kesejahteraan keluarga. Kegiatan ini mereka lakukan sebelum melakukan aktivitas diluar rumahnya, walaupun kegiatan ini dilakukan bersama-sama dengan anggota keluarga, namun kegiatan istri masih memiliki porsi yang cukup tinggi. Sebelum melakukan aktivitas dalam bidang ekonomiPenelitian ini merupakan penelitian dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Fokus penelitiannya adalah Peran Pemberdayaan Istri Petani Dalam Meningkatan Pendapatan Ekonomi Keluarga Di Kampung Hanie Kecamatan Salahutu Kabupaten Maluku Tengah. Penelitian kualitatif adalah suatu proses penelitian yang memberikan pemahaman berdasarkan metodelogi yang bersifat menyelidiki suatu fenomena sosial yang ada di dalam masyarakat.Hasil penelitian, menunjukkan bahwa; Peran Pemberdayaan Istri Petani Dalam Meningkatan Pendapatan Ekonomi Keluarga Di Kampung Hanie; rumahtanggaan merupakan tugas utama para istri petani, khususnya para ibu rumah tangga. Kegiatan ini seolah-olah tidak mengenal waktu dalam pelaksanaannya. istri berperan integral, namun perannya itu dianggap sebagai bagian dari pemenuhan kebutuhan dalam rumahtangga dan tidak ada hubungannya dengan proses pemenuhan produksi pangan untuk mencukupi kebutuhan penduduk yang terus meningkat. Perempuan tidak saja menjadi bagian terbesar dari tenaga kerja di sektor pertanian, tetapi juga memiliki pengetahuan dan ketrampilan utama dalam pekerjaan pertanian. Secara tradisional perempuan memiliki ketrampilan bertani yang baik dan menyimpannya untuk ditanam pada musim tanam berikutnya. Perempuan juga mampu memilih lahan yang cocok untuk budidaya pertanian. Kemampuan tersebut dengan dipelajari para istri untuk kebutuhan bertahan hidup keluarganya. Dampak perbedaan biologis yang mempengaruhi potensi kemampuan antara suami dan istri dalam hal perannannya dalam meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga. Padahal kalau ditilik secara cermat kemampuan manusia bisa dipandang dalam sifatnya yang universal dan spesifik. Kata Kunci: Pemberdayaan, Istri Petena Ekonomi Keluarga
Development of a new pylon material in transtibial prosthesis / Hanie Nadia Shasmin
No full textIntroduction: Amputations among Malaysia citizens is increasing at an alarming rate. This
people are in need of lower leg prostheses but are unable to afford the high costs of current
prosthetic components. In this study, bamboo was used to replace the conventional pylon
material to reduce the cost in below knee prosthesis. Bamboo is a natural fiber-reinforced
composite material possesses good mechanical properties to warrant its use as a structural
material.
Methodology: The bamboo pylon was produced from proper harvesting of Bambusa
Heterostachya. It was then dried in an oven at 200o Celsius for 72 hours. Before lamination,
the bamboo culm underwent pre-treatment with V-Sawit oil at about 120°C for about 30 to
90 minutes. Bamboo pylon was laminated with at least 3 layers, using vinyl urethane
adhesive and polyvinyl acetate. The processes involved in producing bamboo pylon ensure
its durability and protection against pest. In second part of the study, bamboo pylon was
tested for flexural, compressive and tensile properties under Universal Testing Machine
based on ASTM standards. In addition, computer simulation of subject walking with
bamboo pylon was performed. The third part of the study involved gait comparisons on six
transtibial amputees while walking with bamboo and stainless steel pylon with the
prosthetic legs.
Results and Discussions: The results showed with yield compressive stress and Young’s
modulus of 132.6 MPa (SD ± 3.3 MPa) and 30.7 GPa (SD ± 4.7 GPa) respectively, bamboo
pylon was three times stronger than fibre reinforced plastic and two times stronger than
Aluminum. There was no significant difference found in vertical and antero-posterior
ground reaction forces (p > 0.05) in Bamboo prosthetic leg compared to Stainless steel
prosthetic leg. Joint kinematics for Bamboo prosthetic leg was also comparable to joint
kinematics for Stainless steel prosthetic leg (p > 0.05) except for the hip extension (p <
0.05). In spatio-temporal parameters; cadence, step length and walking speed of Bamboo
prosthetic leg were comparable to Stainless steel prosthetic leg (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: Bamboo is a low-cost material and possesses great mechanical properties. It
will make an excellent new pylon material in transtibial prosthesis
